The current study attempts to find a cognitive reason for this observation by exploring whether CADHD are distracted by classroom noises from different locations. The current study attempts to create an experimental setting, which is on the one hand intuitively related to the classroom situation, while also maintaining experimental control, exploring the causal relation and using a task which does not require excessive attentional resources to focus on the impact of distracters rather than on task difficulty. We explored whether CADHD are more vulnerable to auditory distracters from different locations even if an attended task does not demand excessive executive resources. CADHD and normal children verbally repeated auditorily presented familiar words. Auditorily presented random numbers from the front, left, or right of the participants were presented randomly as distracters. The results showed that the effect of distracter on error rate was significant as was the interaction effect of distracter and group. However, only distracters from the front led to significantly more errors for CADHD. The findings suggest that CADHD are vulnerable to distracters from the auditory modality even when they have to perform a simple auditory task such as repeating familiar words – in a situation intuitively akin to the classroom setting.","PeriodicalId":23456,"journal":{"name":"Universal Journal of Psychology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81389276","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was also intended to examine the functions and indigenous elements of Wayang Kulit in those areas. This research employed a qualitative method to explore the issue in a flexible manner but at the same time, retaining an in-depth and accurate result. Peirce‟s semiotic analysis, comprising three elements, i.e., representamen, object, and interpretant, was used to scrutinize Wayang Gagrak from the three provinces mentioned previously. Representamen refers to everything that can function as a sign. The term object, in this context, refers to the component represented by the sign, while the interpretant is the interpretation of the sign. All data from the observation of Wayang Gagrak of the three areas, literature related to Peirce‟s semiotic analysis, and interview with informants (such as dalang or puppeteer, semiotic experts, and Wayang enthusiasts) were examined to present a thorough result. The criteria of this objective involve: (1) able to explore all details and signs represented visually in Wayang Gagrak of the selected areas; (2) able to present the meanings of the symbols of the Wayang, and; (3) able to examine the functions of the signs.","PeriodicalId":23456,"journal":{"name":"Universal Journal of Psychology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76315117","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to experts on mental development of children, 80 percent of children's brains develop in the golden age. So at that time, the role of parents is needed in monitoring the growth and development of children's brains. \u0000During the golden age the child's brain develops so quickly that any information will be absorbed, without seeing the information is good or bad. In addition to playing a role as a supervisor for the growth and development of children, parents must also be tasked with increasing knowledge, especially around child growth. \u0000One of the activities that can be trained to children in increasing knowledge while providing stimulus to the child's growth and development process is drawing. \u0000Connecting lines and joining dots in the pursuit of making a drawing requires a certain level of problem solving. In order for a child to consciously draw an object, they first need to visualize  the shape and then work out the best way to reproduce it on paper. The problem-solving skills that children develop from drawing will also transfer over to other subjects like maths, where visual representations can often help in finding a solution.","PeriodicalId":23456,"journal":{"name":"Universal Journal of Psychology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88937676","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Surprisingly, a review of the literature indicates that there are much fewer studies conducted using Chinese adolescents as study subjects, which is not commensurable to China being the fastest developing country with 1/5 of the global population. The purpose of this study is to understand the self-diagnosed depression level of Chinese adolescents and examine if gender and rural-urban location make a difference. Using the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), 72 high school students in two high schools of different locations in Southern China were surveyed. The survey data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and univariate statistical t-tests. Results indicate that the students have on average a mild mood disturbance, while 18% of them had moderate or severe depression. The mean level of male students' mood disturbance is much higher than that of female students, although it is not statistically significant. Urban students' mood disturbance level is significantly higher than rural students. This study supports the efficient implementation of depression research in China by providing a snapshot of high school students' mental health from the perspective of the surveyed results through self-assessment. Implications for high school mental health counseling and further research are discussed.","PeriodicalId":23456,"journal":{"name":"Universal Journal of Psychology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89851150","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recent research using self-report measures indicates that misophonia includes an elicited physical respondent (e.g. skeletal muscle flinch). Using electromyography (EMG) and direct observation, an immediate physical response to trigger stimuli was verified in three misophonic participants. Consistent movement of the body was observed in each subject when the subject reported having a moderate to strong response, though the location was unique for each subject. The response appeared to be immediate with the onset of a brief auditory stimulus and occurred at the start and throughout longer visual trigger stimuli. Additionally, an EMG measured response was consistent in one participant, and occurred in another participant when there was a strong self-reported response. Response latency for the EMG measured response was several hundred milliseconds, indicating the responses were elicited by the misophonic trigger stimulus and not general physiological arousal. This provides empirical evidence of an elicited physical response to misophonic stimuli in these individuals with misophonia. This supports conceptualization of misophonia as a condition which includes a respondent behavior (e.g. muscle flinch) elicited by the misophonic trigger stimulus. This highlights the need for additional research on the elicited physical response to misophonic stimuli and classical conditioning as a mechanism for the development of such a response.","PeriodicalId":23456,"journal":{"name":"Universal Journal of Psychology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81535517","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using a consensus model and face validity, two raters chose a purposeful sample of 10 sources to do a critical case analysis (Patton, 2002) consisting of books, articles, or monographs that were located using the following labels: racism, science, history, racial identification, inferiority, social issues, phrenology, psychology, prejudice, discrimination and criminal. In all, 108 keywords were identified as uniquely describing empowering and disempowering label attributes (100% inter-rater agreement). Each keyword was classified according to term denoted by word (noun or adjective), internal and external perspective (biological or sociological), and target (humanize, genocide, dehumanize, suppression). Moreover, the purpose of this qualitative research was to identify how these terms were employed to establish a status of inferiority and to validate the suppression of native populations, minorities, and other non-White groups and target of the label given. The results mainly depicted that psychology has been used to substantiate racists agendas; however, it can promote empowerment by encouraging social awareness of the underlying racial issues.","PeriodicalId":23456,"journal":{"name":"Universal Journal of Psychology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83629902","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study is conducted with 144 mothers who have children who will be starting primary school in the next term. General Information Form, Spence Children's Anxiety Scale (Parent's Form) and Adult Attachment Scale were used to collect data in the study, which is designed with the relational screening model. Kolmogorov-Simirnov test was used to ensure normality assumption in data analysis and it was found that normality assumption of data was fulfilled substantially as a result of the analysis. Thus, parametrical statistical methods were preferred. DUNCAN test was used to determine the groups creating the difference, when there was a difference based on the ANOVA test result. A relationship was found between the mother's attachment styles and sex, income level, and child's reaction to separation from the mother and mother's reaction to separation from the child in the study. However, a relationship could not be found between variables such as the mother's attachment style and number of children, mother's post-partum depression condition, presence of psychosomatic complaints reported by children and whether the child experienced any problems in adjustment to school or not. It was found that secure attachment of the mother was a predictor for the child's panic attack-agoraphobia, fear of physical injury and separation anxiety. Secure attachment of the mother reduces the anxiety in children. The output has shown that the mother transferred the attachment behavior to her children.","PeriodicalId":23456,"journal":{"name":"Universal Journal of Psychology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85490428","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
