Aim of the study: To examine the adequacy (satisfactory) factor of urine samples and their importance in the diagnosis of urothelial malignancy using the Paris system for reporting urinary cytology. Methods: This is a retrospective study including (314) cases of patients presented with hematuria or diagnosed as having urinary bladder mass. The slides were taken and centrifuged at 2000 RPM and stained according to the availability of the stains the year from which they obtained; Slides were taken from (2016, 2017 and 2020) were stained with (Hematoxylin and Eosin), while the slides taken from (2018-2019) were stained with (Papanicolaou) stain; In addition to some slides were stained with (Giemsa) stain in special cases, including the patients with age range of (8-98) years. All data were taken from archival files of these patients; we divide the urine volume parameter into more than and less than 30 ml. Results: the occurrence of high grade urothelial carcinoma was encountered in 8 of 103 cases (7.8%) at age below (50) years, and 13 of 74 cases (17.6%) at age from (51-60) years, and 43 of 137 cases (31.4%) at age more than (60) years. According to the association between the urine volume and the diagnosis of high grade urothelial carcinoma, there was 19 of 68 cases (27.9%) of patient’s urine volume obtained was ≥ 30 ml have high-grade urothelial carcinoma, while 45 of 246 (18.3%) of them urine volume was > 30 ml have high-grade urothelial carcinoma. According to the association between adequacy of urine sample with urine volume, there were 32 of 246 (13%) of patient’s urine volume obtained was > 30 ml having unsatisfactory urine sample for cytological analysis, while only 6 of 68 (8.8%) of patient’s urine volume obtained was ≥ 30 having unsatisfactory urine sample. Conclusion: A significant correlation between the detection of high-grade urothelial carcinoma and increase urine volume submitted for cytological evaluation, increased urine volume submitted for cytological examination decrease the frequency of unsatisfactory samples.","PeriodicalId":232143,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Pathology","volume":"216 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132445498","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

FNAC of breast lumps is an important mode of investigation and forms a part of triple test. FNAC is cost effective and can prevent unnecessary surgery. This study intended to look the frequencies of different lesions in FNAC of palpable breast lump. Methods: It is a hospital based prospective study conducted from November 2016 to October 2017 conducted in Department of Pathology, GMC Jammu. FNAC was done in a total of 289 patients who presented with palpable breast lump along with suspected enlarged axillary lymph node, if any. We assessed the age of the patient, lesion size, site, type of lesion and axillary lymph node metastasis in case of malignancies. Results: Out of 289 patients studied, 250 (86.5%) were females and 39 (13.4%) were males. Age ranges from 7-88 years with a mean age of 36 years. Most of the patients were in 21-30 years age group (30.6%). cases (96.4%) presented with breast lump while the swelling was diffuse in 9 cases. Maximum number of cases in females were seen in the age group of 21-30 years i.e. 75 cases (30%). Upper outer quadrant was the most common quadrant involved in females with 70 cases (28%). On FNAC, there were 36 cases (12.4%) of Inflammatory lesions, 198 (68.5%) of benign cases and 29 cases (10.06%) of carcinoma breast. Among the benign lesions maximum number of cases i.e. 58 cases (20.06%) were reported as Fibroadenoma. On cytological categorisation of breast diseases on FNAC, maximum number of cases i.e. 221 (76.4%) were categorised as C2 (Benign) followed by 29 cases (10.06%) categorised as C5 (Malignant).","PeriodicalId":232143,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Pathology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132181397","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We present a rare case of synchronous primary endometrial and primary fallopian tube cancers. Case: The patient, a 61 year old female presented with postmenopausal bleeding, and diagnosed as Carcinoma Endometrium was taken up for Total Abdominal Hysterectomy with Bilateral Salpingo oophorectomy with Bilateral Pelvic Lymph Node Dissection. The histopathology revealed synchronous primary carcinomas of endometrium and left fallopian tube. Conclusion: The reason for better median overall survival of patients with synchronous primary endometrial and fallopian tube cancers is not intuitively obvious; perhaps because it is low grade and biologically less aggressive, detection of patients at earlier clinical stage is essential for appropriate management.","PeriodicalId":232143,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Pathology","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132845886","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 102 Patients’ blood samples were evaluated for complete blood count, RBC indices, reticulocyte count and peripheral blood film for morphology. For the confirmation and characterization of hemoglobinopathy, ‘BIORAD VARIANT II’ of HPLC instrument with CDM software was utilized. 60.8% of the patients were females while the remaining 39.2% were males. The results of this study showed that 79.4% of patients were having a normal hemoglobin while 17% patients showed the prevalence of thalassemia trait. Two cases of hereditary persistence of fetal hemoglobin (HPFH) were seen and one case each of sickle cell-beta thalassemia (HbSThal) and hemoglobin D-Iran (HD - Iran) were seen . It was observed that 65.4% of the patients without thalassemia trait had normocytic normochromic type of anemia. In contrast, all the patients with thalassemia trait and HbSThal had microcytic hypochromic anemia. This association was statistically significant with hemoglobinopathies mostly having microcytic hypochromic. The present findings show high performance liquid chromatography forms a rapid, accurate, and reproducible tool for the early detection and management of and variants.","PeriodicalId":232143,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Pathology","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128622398","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Abdominal cystic tumours are highly prevalent. Due to the availability of superior imaging techniques, they are now diagnosed more commonly and considerably earlier. Over time, these adnexal masses can lead to fatal complications, such as ovarian torsion or haemorrhage. Incidental findings of these tumours are common as many of these patients are asymptomatic. 45-year-old female presented with abdominal distension for 1 year with polymenorrhagia. An exploratory laparotomy relieved a giant tumour weighing of 24.870 kgs drained 30 Litres of serous fluid. Histopathology revealed benign ovarian mucinous cystadenoma.
