Post auricular lesions occurs in a wide spectrum of diseases including reactive conditions, infections such as tuberculosis, as well as primary lymphoid malignancies and secondary metastatic tumors. Post auricular lesions can include several anatomic sites and originating in different tissues and organs. Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (F.N.A.C) is a simple, quick, cost effective procedure with minimum complications. Materials and methods: The study included patients presented with a postauricular lesions in a tertiary care hospital from January 2018 to December 2019. Detail clinical history and significant findings were noted. Aspirations were done by 10 ml syringe and 22/23-gauge needles. Smears were stained with PAP, Haematoxylin and Eosin and MGG stain. Cytomorphological diagnosis was given after clinco-pathological correlations. Results: Out of 50 patients of post auricular lesions studied, lymph node (53%) was the predominant site aspirated with tubercular lymphadenitis being the commonest lesion. Soft tissue lesions and miscellaneous constituted (39%) followed by salivary gland (8%). Conclusion: There was a wide spectrum of swellings from simple cyst to malignant mostly metastatic lesion. Though excisional biopsy is the gold standard for diagnosis of head and neck neoplastic lesion. FNAC is a rapid, cheap diagnostic tool now-a-days with an excellent overall diagnostic accuracy in differentiating nonneoplastic lesions from neoplastic lesions.","PeriodicalId":232143,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Pathology","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125313346","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Developing countries have reported higher prevalence of skin diseases and the spectrum of these diseases is highly variable. Here we present a clinicopathological study of skin lesions in 220 cases. Out of 220 skin biopsies studied, 9.5% were inadequate samples, followed by17.27% inflammatory lesions, 53.18% benign and 20% malignant lesions respectively. The age range in the present study was 5 years to 91years with a male to female ratio of 1.8:1. Epidermal cyst was the most common benign lesion while squamous cell carcinoma was the most common malignancy encountered histologically in the present study. Study highlights the range, variation & proportion of various skin lesions at rural tertiary care centre. It emphasizes the importance of skin biopsy in arriving at a diagnosis. Skin biopsy is pivotal in determining the malignant skin lesion which may mimic benign & vice versa.","PeriodicalId":232143,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Pathology","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131052962","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: The present Prospective study was conducted in the Department of Surgery and Medicine and in collaboration with pathology department of SGT Medical College Hospital & Research Institute from June 2020 to May 2021. 500 patients’ comprised 350 adults and 150 children for Hb estimation. Hb estimation was done simultaneously both by Mission Ultra Hb Meter and Haematology Analyser i3. Result: A total of 500 samples were processed for hemoglobin estimation. Out of these 225 were males and 275 females. Mean haemoglobin concentration on Mission Ultra Hb Meter for adults and children were 10.88+/- 2.36 and 10.22+/-2.51 respectively. Mean hemoglobin concentration by Hematology Analyzer i3 for adults and children were 10.98+/-2.15 and 10.52+/-2.52 respectively. This shows mean by Hematology Analyzer i3 is greater by 2.17% for adults and 3.06% for children. It takes less than 1 minute by Mission Ultra Hb Meter while 15- 20 minutes by HematologyAnalyzeri3. Mission Ultra Hb Meter requires almost negligible maintenance while automated analyzer regular maintenance. The mean (SD) hemoglobin level was 10.55 ± 0.52and 10.75 ± 0.63g/dl using Mission Ultra Hb Meter vs HematologyAnalyzeri3. There was a positive correlation ( r = 0.51, P < 0.001) between hemoglobin levels by using Mission Ultra Hb Meter vs HematologyAnalyzer i3. The Bias of agreement was 0.4g/dl resulting to 95% correlation. We also observed that out of 500 patients tested 53 were true anemic when tested from HematologyAnalyzer i3. In comparison Mission Ultra Hb Meter provided a Sensitivity and Specificity of 92% and 96% in detection of anemia. Conclusion: Hemoglobin concentration assessment by Mission Ultra Hb Meter using venous blood samples has shown acceptable agreement with HematologyAnalyzeri3.","PeriodicalId":232143,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Pathology","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129200702","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Malaria destroys the liver tissue and the enzymes are elevated in blood that is absorbed partially or fully in the blood stream. The liver enzymes in malaria are elevated in early malaria infection and it’s a rule and natural history of the disease. The enzymes can be used as a predictor for assessing the disease severity and higher the levels of liver enzymes poorer is the prognosis of the disease. Most of the studies showed that unlike other viral infections, in dengue the rise of SGOT is usually more than SGPT and is believed to be due to release from the damaged myocytes. In view of this biochemical pattern, it is possible to confuse liver involvement in malaria infection with typical acute viral hepatitis, especially in countries where outbreaks of hepatitis A and E are common. So an attempt has been made to study the hepatic enzyme values and whether it reflects the prognosis is checked in this study.","PeriodicalId":232143,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Pathology","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116529193","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
