The researchers used a descriptive qualitative method to choose the data. The researcher tends to analyze the data using the pragmatic theory specifically a speech act proposed by Searle (1979) delivered by Anies Baswedan. Illocutionary acts can be divided into 5 types, there are representative, declarative, directive, commissive, expressive. Then, the researchers obtained the data from Anies in Mayoral Meeting Cities Against Covid-19 Global Summit 2020 with the clauses as the data analysis. The result shows that there are 102 data found in the video. Then, the dominant number found is representative with the total number 55 (53,9%), then followed by declarative 22 (21,6%), directive 12 (11,8%), expressive 8 (7,8%), and commissive 5 (4,9%). Then, representative one is dominant since the data tends to deliver the message by reporting, stating, describing a phenomenon, Covid-19 as the issue that must be solved. It is concluded that this study is in the line with the theories and the previous studies dealing with the illocutionary act. On the contrary, there is a previous study that contrasts with this study.","PeriodicalId":232120,"journal":{"name":"SALEE: Study of Applied Linguistics and English Education","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125279010","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, the main data collection is survey, with the questionnaires distributed to local Australians around the area of Monash University, Melbourne. The findings suggest that from the eight address terms studied, the most frequently used one in daily interaction is mate, followed by love and dude. Next, those address terms are found to be used for various specific people depending on the closeness of relationships to the speaker. In addition, some terms are usable to address both sexes, while some can be used for certain sex only. Finally, for the speaker of those address terms, mate, buddy, and dude are more popular to use among male participants, while darling, sweetie, honey, babe, and love are more popular among female speakers. The absence of a guideline of teaching writing using certain technique results a less effective process of teaching writing. Thus, this research and development study was aimed to investigate the quality of the existing guidelines of writing in junior high school and the development of the practical guidelines of teaching writing in SMPN of Karanganyar Central Java using Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition. This research was conducted through two stages; exploration stage and product development stage. The finding of the exploration stage was obtained through several techniques like interview, observation, document analysis and questionnaire distribution which revealed that there was no certain writing guideline used to teach. The teachers used textbook, syllabus and lesson plan as the guidance of teaching writing. Thus, the writing guideline should be developed by considering the need of the teacher and the students. The guideline prototype was developed by considering some aspects. It contained theoretical theories of writing, CIRC and teaching writing to Junior High School and the implementation of teaching writing of descriptive, recount, and narrative texts. Then, it had been validated by the expert and tried out thrice in one class of eighth graders of SMPN in Karanganyar Central Java. Through focus group discussion, the guideline prototype was changed and revised to be the final draft of writing guideline. Therefore, through the stages, it could be concluded that the practical guideline was feasible to be used by the teachers to teach writing to junior high school students.","PeriodicalId":232120,"journal":{"name":"SALEE: Study of Applied Linguistics and English Education","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134057619","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
