Few attentions have been focused on the material itself. Generally, it is the unqualified material, induced by the improper metallurgy and heat treatment process, which makes the drill bits fail soon after they are put into service. Reasons of the crackings on side tooth gingivae of a drill bit, which failed prematurely at the beginning of the service, were analyzed comparatively. Scanning electron microscope, metallographic observation, mechanical performance test and chemical composition analysis were adoptedfor the failure analysis. Results show that microstructure, chemical composition and mechanic properties of the substrate were excluded from the reasons of the cracking. It is mainly the excessive inclusions and defects in the carburized layer which induced the inhomogeneity of material organization and performance. Those inclusions and defects act as stress concentrators and leading to the crack initiation. In addition, toughness of the carburized layer is also decreased due to its over-carburization. It makescracks more easily initiate from the carburized layer and then propagate into the substrate under the stress of interference fit.","PeriodicalId":22791,"journal":{"name":"The Open Materials Science Journal","volume":"26 1","pages":"8-17"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82526577","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A 150-μm MESFET had a saturation drain current of 238 mA/mm after Si3N4 passivation. A 15-mm MESFET, when measured under a class-AB condition with a biased drain voltage of 3.4 V and a quiescent drain current of 600 mA, delivered a maximum output power (Pout) of 31.1 dBm and a maximum power-added efficiency (PAE) of 58.0% at a frequency of 1.88 GHz. The MESFET exhibited a Pout of 29.2 dBm with a PAE of 45.0% at the 1-dB gain compression point. The MESFET, when measured under a deep class-B condition with a biased drain voltage of 4.7 V and a quiescent drain current of 50 mA, achieved a maximum Pout of 33.1 dBm and a maximum PAE of 55.9% at 1.88 GHz. The MESFET operating at 4.7 V and 1.88 GHz exhibited a P1dB of 31.8 dBm and an associated PAE of 47.1% at the 1-dB gain compression point. When tested by IS-95 code-division multiple access (CDMA) standard signals and biased at 4.7 V under the deep class-B condition, the MESFET with a Pout of 28 dBm demonstrated an adjacent channel power rejection (ACPR) of –31.2 dBc at +1.25 MHz apart from the 1.88 GHz center frequency and –45.7 dBc at +2.25 MHz.","PeriodicalId":22791,"journal":{"name":"The Open Materials Science Journal","volume":"16 1","pages":"29-36"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82926196","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study of the crystallization behavior of PLLA/TP composites indicated that TP could promote the crystallization of PLLA. The half time of overall crystallization of PLLA with 1.5 wt% TP, compared with the neat PLLA, gave rise to a decrease from 3999.44 s to the minimum value 228 s at 100 °C. In addition, the cooling rate also affected significantly the crystallization behavior of PLLA. The melting behavior of PLLA/TP composites exhibited a complicated and different melting process after cooling crystallization, and the increasing of TP content made melt mass flow rate of PLLA firstly decrease, then increases.","PeriodicalId":22791,"journal":{"name":"The Open Materials Science Journal","volume":"3 1","pages":"2-7"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74531194","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To lessen the water loss, a polystyrene board coverage technique was used. This paper represents a demonstrative application study of the polystyrene board coverage technique in the Daquangou Plain Reservoir in the city of Shihezi, Xinjiang. Six different polystyrene board structures were created and tested to measure the wind wave resistance level, damage type, and reason for the damage. To study the motion of the floating polystyrene board in waves, this paper applied the kinematic theory for rigid bodies and utilized the Newton's Second Law to develop the coupling kinematic equation for the polystyrene board. We also use a modified sectioning method to calculate the added mass of the floating polystyrene board, fluid damping, and static water restoring force. The heave and pitch motion response of the floating polystyrene board was analyzed and determined to be periodic. The connection and fix strategy for the polystyrene board structures could resist the effect of level-6 wind waves, which served the purpose of inhibiting the evaporation in the plain reservoir. Keyword: Floating polystyrene board, plain reservoir, polystyrene board coverage technique, motion response, wave load.","PeriodicalId":22791,"journal":{"name":"The Open Materials Science Journal","volume":"90 1","pages":"220-224"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81519943","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three main frequency bands of acoustic emission signal had been identified: 80-160 kHz (low frequency band), 160-300 kHz (middle frequency band), and over 300kHz (high frequency band), corresponding to the three basic damage modes: the fragmentation of matrix resin, the layered damage of fiber and matrix, and the fracture of cellosilk. The usage of wavelet transform enabled the separation of fatigue damaged acoustic emission signals from interference wave, and the access to characteristics of high signal-noise-ratio fatigue damage.","PeriodicalId":22791,"journal":{"name":"The Open Materials Science Journal","volume":"208 1","pages":"214-219"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76218294","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this article, special plastic bearings based on the material of polyoxymethylene (POM) were designed and applied in the power generation device of both tidal current energy and island wind energy. The properties of POM were analyzed, and the load of a POM ball was tested. Special structures of the plastic bearings were designed to meet the requirements of pressure resistance and to reduce the friction. These plastic bearings had been used in the prototypes of 20 kW tidal current turbine generation device and 15 kW island wind turbine generation device. According to the prototypes' operation, the results indicate that these plastic bearings work well and are very suitable for the application in renewable energy conversion system. By optimizing the structure, such plastic bearings would be generalized and applied in the renewable energy generation device with a higher power level.","PeriodicalId":22791,"journal":{"name":"The Open Materials Science Journal","volume":"49 1","pages":"203-209"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90542599","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main problems, the equations of motion, the constitutive relation, the initial conditions, boundary conditions and contact conditions, are presented in detail. Based on this, the finite element model is established and solved for exploring the changes in laws of stress, strain and so on. The information on stress, strain and load displacement is obtained at different deformation stages. The numerical results show that the finite element algorithm can effectively simulate the deformation process of sheet steel which helps to explain that the numerical framework is feasible for sheet steel stamping forming problems.","PeriodicalId":22791,"journal":{"name":"The Open Materials Science Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":"198-202"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89394224","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
