The experimental results of a FO communication network at millimeter wave frequency of 38GHz (Ka-band) are presented. The results of 500MHz-1GHz FO link characteristics such as frequency response flatness, harmonics, and the third order intermodulation distortion are presented. Results of stabilization of a 38GHz IMPATT oscillator using indirect optical injection locking is also discussed. A locking range of 132MHz using 45dB amplification gain is demonstrated. The overall system FM noise degradation is measured to be 16dB. The communication link is established by up-conversion of the data link with the stabilized LO. Results of a true time delay phase shifter using a novel fiber striching technique is presented. A phase shift as high as 20° at 10GHz is achieved using the expansion properties of a piezo-electric ring by applying dc voltage.","PeriodicalId":227595,"journal":{"name":"1986 16th European Microwave Conference","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1986-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133095275","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This facility allows simultaneous measurements of scattering phenomena to be made at chosen frequencies within the range of 10 GHz to 90 GHz. The microprocessor records the experimental data and provides output of results in graphical form either directly or in association with a mainframe computer. The system provides an advance in open resonator technology, allowing measurements to be made very quickly and at frequencies widely separated over the microwave and millimetre-wave bands.","PeriodicalId":227595,"journal":{"name":"1986 16th European Microwave Conference","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1986-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131770185","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By using perturbation theory, a modified compensation term has been derived to deal with relatively large deviation of the specimen geometry from that ideally required in such measurements. Preliminary measurements, made at 11.6 GHz on concave perspex samples having various radii of curvature down to 300mm and with a judicious choice of resonator configuration, show errors in the relative permittivity and loss tangent of less than 3% and 20% respectively. The large errors in the loss tangent are thought to be due to the energy refracted out of the resonator not yet having been taken into account.","PeriodicalId":227595,"journal":{"name":"1986 16th European Microwave Conference","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1986-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124202649","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The effect of changes in the form of the device model, on the predicted harmonic output power, is discussed. By accurately modelling the microwave external circuits, the effect of circuit topology on the production of second and third harmonic output power is examined, with the aim of optimising the amplifier as a harmonic converter. The simulated performance of an optimised doubler circuit, from IOGHz to 20GHz, is described.","PeriodicalId":227595,"journal":{"name":"1986 16th European Microwave Conference","volume":"267 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1986-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115306333","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Diplexer design and their application to broadband multiplexers will be considered with examples of practical devices. Due to the limitations of loss, narrow band bandpass and bandstop designs have restricted applications. However, one application in contiguous switched multiplexers will be considered in detail where the dissipation loss characteristic plays a very important role in the overall device performance. Such an N channel switched multiplexer may assume anyone of 2N states within 30 ns.
