They were both analyzed and identified by the employment of the qualitative descriptive method with questionnaires and interview as data collection techniques. It was shown that referring to 141 appearances, broadening and narrowing meaning took up respectively 24.82% and 7.09%. Meanwhile, both Ameliorization and Pejorization made up 29.07%, while Taboo comprised 9.92%. Subsequently, it was notified that all factors were of prevalence, namely linguistic,historical,psychological,social causes, foreign language influences, and novel word needs. It is concluded that typical types of lexical semantic changes as well as their determining factors are prevalently identified. It is imperative that corpus study be implemented and timelines related- lexical semantic changes be touched upon for the further research.","PeriodicalId":227403,"journal":{"name":"English Journal Literacy Utama","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122705500","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As the unit of analysis, the data are 30 selected clauses, both uttered by Lintang himself or the narrator. The clauses are arranged chronologically based on the plot of the story consisting of phase 1 (opening), phase 2 (conflict & climax), and phase 3 (closing). This research employs qualitative descriptive design (Fraenkel & Wallen, 2007: 430). The approach for this research is narrative inquiry. According to Croker (Heigham & Croker, 2009: 16), among disciplines using narrative inquiry are anthropology, sociology, history, psychology and literature. The results show that based on transitivity theory, the characterizations of Lintang are represented and portrayed by the types of process and participant in every clause. Among his emerging characterizations are: hyperactive, brave, never-gives-up kid, heroism, and willing to sacrifice for his family.","PeriodicalId":227403,"journal":{"name":"English Journal Literacy Utama","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115548120","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
