This paper presents a novel high performance single-phase voltage regulator which has a common arm between the AC/DC and DC/AC power converters and adopts an appropriate switching strategy. As a result, the proposed voltage regulator can reduce the number of switching devices and system loss, while maintaining the capabilities of power factor correction and good output voltage regulation. In addition, novel low-cost AC capacitor using two DC capacitors is also presented. Therefore, the whole voltage regulator system can be more compact, simpler and less expensive than conventional designs. The fully digital controller is designed using a high-speed DSP, and the proposed system is validated through experimental results.","PeriodicalId":227402,"journal":{"name":"ISIE '99. Minimum required maintenance, ease of use and the compliance with EC requirements were the main design goals. To enhance versatility and accommodate the device to individual needs, the stimulator features three modes of operation regarding the trigger source and offers seven adjustable stimulation parameters, which can be set by the clinician via a PC computer or a simple external module. In addition to traditional use of foot-switches or other external switches to trigger the stimulation, a wireless RF link to the crutch mounted push-button gives the patient voluntary control over the timing of the stimulation. Cyclic stimulation is provided for training and muscle restrengthening. The stimulator is small, lightweight, battery operated and easy to use.","PeriodicalId":227402,"journal":{"name":"ISIE '99. The analysis can be used for topologies with voltage or current source at the input. Different modulation techniques can be considered: variable switching frequency modulation and duty-ratio modulation. All topologies with 2 and 3 resonant elements, as well as many others up to 12 resonant elements are covered. The model is equally valid for explicit high order resonant tanks as well as high order resonant tanks because of parasitics. Generalized /spl Pi/ and T networks and first harmonic approximation are used. A number of operating characteristics can be systematically obtained: steady-state transfer function, peak currents and voltages of the converter and the tank, peak reactive energy stored in the resonant tank, efficiency, etc. In order to verify the method, a DC/DC LCC current source resonant converter has been built and measured.","PeriodicalId":227402,"journal":{"name":"ISIE '99. The PCS, which can be utilized as an active filter with additional tasks, consists of a voltage source inverter and a DC current chopper. The PCS considered in this paper uses a superconducting magnet as an energy storage device. A theoretical analysis of the system behavior under unbalanced conditions is presented. Two control strategies are developed and compared with reference to the effects on the source power quality. In order to get unity power factor rectifier operation the current reference must have sinusoidal wave-shape. This function is provided by using of an analog multiplier. They are based on different models and the best of them are providing an explanation together with an accurate and reliable response. One of the most viable among models are decision trees, already used for many medical decision making purposes. Although effective and reliable, the traditional decision tree construction approach contains several deficiencies. Therefore, we decided to develop a self-adapting evolutionary decision support model, that uses evolutionary principles for the induction of decision trees. There, the input currents are controlled independently although the three phases are mutually coupled, i.e., the sum of the phase currents is forced to zero for missing connections between the mains star point and the output voltage center point. However, ignoring of the coupling of the three phases results in increased amplitudes of harmonics with switching frequency and/or in a significantly higher ripple of the rectifier input current. This is shown in this paper by a detailed analysis of different current control concepts for a three-phase three-switch three-level boost-type PWM rectifier (VIENNA Rectifier I) with unity power factor. The theoretical considerations are verified by digital simulations and an experimental analysis of a laboratory prototype and are valid in general for three-phase boost-type voltage DC link PWM rectifier systems.","PeriodicalId":227402,"journal":{"name":"ISIE '99.
