Our CFD method incorporates a MAC-type NS solver and a front capturing technique by using the maker density function. The CFD method indicates the defomation, zigzag trajectory and the vortex shedding from it, each of which is compared well with the measurements. However, it is still an open problem to develop effective people flow analysis techniques. We suppose compression and data mining techniques are especially important for analysis and visualization of large-scale people flow datasets. This paper presents a visualization tool for large-scale people flow dataset featuring compression and data mining techniques. This tool firstly compresses the people flow datasets using UniversalSAX, an extended method of SAX (Symbolic Aggregate Approximation). Next, we apply natural language algorithms to extract movement patterns. Applying Weighted Levenshtein Distance as dissimilarity between walking routes, we can compare features of each walking route and classify moving patterns. Finally, we visualize walking routes of people flow and extracted features to represent popular walking routes and congestions. The measurement of the sound spectrum at Reynolds number 1.6 × 10 5 indicates the generation of discrete frequency noise from the airofoil at small incidence angles. The surface flow visualizations over the airofoil were carried out using the oil-film method and the shear-sensitive liquid crystal technique. These visualization results indicate that the reattachment and reseparation of the flow occur near the trailing edge of the pressure side of the airfoil, when the discrete frequency noise is generated. Therefore, the vortex dynamics around a monofin must be considered to estimate the unsteady propulsive force of a monofin. The aim of this study was to elucidate the relationship between propulsive forces and the unsteady flow structure around a monofin with the different oscillating center. The experiments were carried out at the oscillating center αc = 0, -10, -20°. The oscillation was performed using a driver unit of the monofin set in a circulating water flume. To measure the three-dimensional flow fields, a stereoscopic PIV method was applied to the several plane in the downstream of the monofin. The propulsive force during one oscillating cycle at αc = 0° is largest among the three case. Transitional swirling flows in a rectangular channel with aspect ratio of 1.3 and a short channel length, which is one of typical pipe flow with non-circular section, were investigated experimentally and numerically. In this experiment with water circulation flow, LDV measurement system was used in order to obtain the mean velocity fields and turbulent quantities. The flow visualization of the swirling flows was carried out in order to understand the oscillating motion of vortex core. Also, large eddy simulation of the flow fields was made at the same conditions as the experimental ones.
