Urinary stones are one of the oldest and the most common afflictions in humans. Calcium containing stones are the most common comprising about 75% of all urinary calculi, which may be in the form of pure calcium oxalate (50%) or calcium phosphate (5%) or a mixture of both (45 %). 10% of men and 3 % of women have a stone during their adult lives. A number of plants have been mentioned in the Indian ayurvedic system, which can prevent formation or dissolve kidney stones. In the present study, the inhibitory potency of different extracts of seeds of Elettaria cardamomum were evaluated on various stages of formation and on the growth of calcium oxalate crystals in vitro. A result obtained showed that alcoholic and aqueous extract has the higher capacity to inhibit the crystal formation and aggregation as compared to ethyl acetate and petroleum ether extracts.","PeriodicalId":225304,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Pharmacy Research & Technology","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115655785","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several factors like physicochemical properties of drugs, excipients, dosage form design, manufacturing process variables and design impact drug release from dosage form.It is essential to study the release pattern of drug from dosage form as it governs the efficacy of the dosage form. Several models facilitate the understanding of release pattern thus enabling to design an effective formulation. A few of the various models used by researchers to study the release profile are explained in this review which includes: Higuchi model -describes the drug release from a matrix system. Hixson-Crowell cube root law -describes the release from systems where there is a change in surface area and diameter of particles. Korsmeyer and Peppas developed an empirical equation to analyze both Fickian and non-Fickian release of drug from swelling and nonswelling polymeric delivery systems. Baker and Lonsdale developed the model from Higuchi model explaining the drug release from spherical matrices. The Weibull equation which describes drug dissolution and release from dosage forms, it expresses the accumulated fractio n of drugm in solution at timet. Hopfenberg model correlates the drug release from surface eroding polymers. The exponential model known as Gompertz model which describe in-vitro dissolution profile. The Gallagher and Corrigan model which describes the fraction of drug released from the biodegradable polymeric system. The Cooney model which describes about spheres and cylinders undergoing surface erosion.","PeriodicalId":225304,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Pharmacy Research & Technology","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116358483","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The chewing gums were prepared by direct compression method using different ratio of directly compressible gum base (Pharmagum S) in order to obtain optimized formulation. Eight different formulations of chewing gums of meclizine hydrochloride were prepared, which contained various concentration of pharmagum S and Soya powder. The chewing gums which prepared by direct compression method were characterized by pre- compression characters, post compression character, buccal absorption study, drug content and in vitro drug release studies. All the formulations gave satisfactory results in terms of pre compression characters, post compression character, drug content, and in vitro drug release. The best compression characters and 97.88±0.69 % in vitro drug release profile were achieved in formulation MCG5 with a gum and soya powder concentration of 775 mg and 140 mg and FTIR study of optimized MCG5 has shown satisfactory result in terms of drug: polymer compatibility.
