The authors analyze the elections in the framework of institutional and procedural contexts as well as formal and informal stances taken by political parties on the event’s eve. A. Karis became the most appropriate candidate proposed by the ruling coalition, after gaining certain advantage over another “intelligent” candidate T. Soomere, president of the Academy of Sciences. The institute of presidency and election procedure form a subject for permanent discussion in Estonian society, because of the authoritarian experience of the 1930s.","PeriodicalId":224259,"journal":{"name":"Analytical papers of the Institute of Europe RAS","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122735194","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ratings of the ruling party and the head of the Cabinet began to decline rapidly, and the authority of B. Johnson as leader is questioned by the parliamentary fraction and the public. The popularity of the Labour Party and its leader K. Starmer has risen amid the crisis in the ruling party. However, the Tories face a dilemma – changing the party leader, and, consequently, the PM, can put early general elections on the agenda so that the new leader confirms his mandate with the voters. It is determined that, as part of coordinated actions with Brussels, Berlin is focused on curbing the industrial development of the Russian Federation and limiting its foreign exchange earnings. Russia, along with the already existing countermeasures, needs to develop additional steps aimed at reducing the potential for conflict in bilateral economic cooperation, incl. by attracting the German business that remained in the Russian Federation as an economic lobbyist for a peaceful settlement for the future.","PeriodicalId":224259,"journal":{"name":"Analytical papers of the Institute of Europe RAS","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127373907","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
