Under the informed consent, following tests were conducted, Test 1; Ten healthy adults were orally administrated 10 capslues/day of Kurozu for 4 weeks, Test 2; Ten patients with hepatitis C and 10 patients with mild hepatic dysfunction were orally administrated 2 capslues/day of Krozu for 4 weeks. In both the Test1 and Test2, Vital sign including Blood pressure etc, blood cell count, blood chemical analysis, and urinalysis were performed. In both tests, there were no abnormal findings. Ten females (28-58 years old) took hot water extract of coix seed with husks 1 g/day for 8 weeks, and various skin parameters were measured. The results showed that the total amount of subsurface reflection of blue light, which is an index of skin translucency, increased significantly after 8 weeks of intake (p = 0.011). In addition, skin texture improved significantly after 4 and 8 weeks of intake (p = 0.007, p = 0.042). Additionally, the condition of tape-stripped stratum corneum also indicated significant improvement after 4 and 8 weeks intake (p = 0.0002, p = 0.020). These results suggested that the hot water extract of coix seed with husks exhibited effects even at 1 g/day, which is less than in previous reports.","PeriodicalId":224142,"journal":{"name":"Japanese Journal of Complementary and Alternative Medicine","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125033021","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, repeated trauma due to friction of clothes on the skin over bony prominences are another factors characterizing its pathogenesis. In this report, we presented the case of a 58-year-old man who developed severe friction melanosis around both knees and lower extremities for about 20 years. Coix-seed Reactive Derivatives (CRD) was administrated orally 2.1g twice a day for 6 months. The lesions of pigmentation diminished markedly within 3 months. Further research is needed to define the optimal dose and duration of CRD intake against friction melanosis.","PeriodicalId":224142,"journal":{"name":"Japanese Journal of Complementary and Alternative Medicine","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125379591","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objective: The present study was done to examine the effect of dietary supplement containing Kurozu concentrate on human visceral fat accumulation. Material and Methods: Sixteen subjects(BMI ≧ 25) were orally administrated Kurozu concentrate for 8 weeks(low dose group: 500 mg/day, high dose group 1000 mg/day). Before and at weeks 8, hematological analysis, urinalysis and CT-scan to estimate the visceral fat accumulation were conducted. Results: In high dose group, following results were obtained; visceral fat decreased significantly(p=0.033), HDL-cholesterol level elevated significantly (p=0.034) and systolic blood pressure decreased significantly(p=0.004). In addition, no serious symptoms or abnormal hematological values were observed in both group. Conclusions: The dietary supplement containing Kurozu concentrate may be useful to prevent a metabolic syndrome.","PeriodicalId":224142,"journal":{"name":"Japanese Journal of Complementary and Alternative Medicine","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125673194","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
