Several common approaches to cancer management are being used, but many cancer patients develop resistance to chemotherapy drugs. Here we describe the antiproliferative effect of the combination of vitamin D and pitavastatin against breast cancer cells. Aims: To determine the combined cytotoxic effect of both vitamin D and pitavastatin on the MCF7 breast cancer cell line and to study the mechanism of action behind this effect. Methods: In vitro experimental study using the MCF7 estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer cells. The effective doses of the combinations were determined by MTT, and western blotting was used to determine the different protein levels. Results: The 50% inhibitory concentrations (IC50s) of vitamin D and pitavastatin on MCF7 cells were 5.1 μM and 5.5 μM, respectively. However, when the cells were pre-treated with a low dose of vitamin D (1μM) the new pitavastatin IC50 was 1.1 μM. In addition, the combined treatment inhibited the phosphorylation of STAT3 protein in MCF7 cells and increased p53 and p21 protein levels. Conclusion: The combination of pitavastatin and vitamin D showed a synergistic cytotoxic effect by inducing cell cycle arrest and apoptosis.","PeriodicalId":223912,"journal":{"name":"Israa University Journal for Applied Science","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134531540","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Foc is the most virulent pathogen and is capable of surviving in agricultural soil for an indefinite period. The complex interaction between Foc, bananas, and the environment has restricted efforts to develop FWB prevention and control. Thus, it is essential to investigate all dimensions of the interactions relating to the occurrence of FWB in plantations. The purpose of this preliminary study was to assess the reversed interaction of soil attributes and FWB. The relationships between Fusarium wilt disease incidence and soil characteristics were analyzed using a forward linear regression analysis with dummy variables. Age, as well as shrubs and weeds, were incorporated as dummy variables. The first model of forward linear regression with soil moisture as the dependent variable significantly revealed that R2 is larger and more strongly correlated when plant conditions and banana tree age variables are included in the model (p = 0.0). Still, a comprehensive experimental approach is required for better understanding since an increasing human population in the future may pose a threat to food security.","PeriodicalId":223912,"journal":{"name":"Israa University Journal for Applied Science","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128748625","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

PSCs' effectiveness and stability have continuously improved in recent years, and research into minimizing lead leakage and creating environmentally acceptable lead-free perovskites is advancing the commercialization of PSCs step by step. The goal of this paper is to design a solar cell model based on getting higher light transmission and lower light reflection. Three-layer solar cell structure containing perovskite, titanium dioxide, and metal Nano layer sandwich between a silicon substrate and glass cover. The Maple 17 software is used to create the numerical results for the Transfer matrix, which determines the transmission and reflection of the incident light for various physical parameters of the structure. The results showed that the cell with aluminum cell has an excellent transmittance for a wide range of incident angles, perovskite thickness, and effective layer thickness. The short circuit current density reaches the most significant value at (𝛼 = 0), and it has zero value for parallel incidents. The cell of CH3NH3PbI3perovskite type and the aluminum metal nanolayer has the highest current density and a non-zero value for a wide range of incident angles.","PeriodicalId":223912,"journal":{"name":"Israa University Journal for Applied Science","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117255603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The two methods aimed at comparing the Box and Jenkins model to the Artificial Neural Networks method )ANN(, by studying and analyzing time series data as an indicator of cancer cases reported in Gaza Strip governorates during the period from January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2018. The estimated models were compared using five statistical evaluation criteria such as MAE, MSE, RMSE, MAPE. The research found that the optimal model for data representation among ARIMA models is ARIMA (2,2,2). This model was selected based on basic statistical criteria, the most significant one was using of the Akaike Information Criterion )ِAIC). While when using the ANN method, the optimal model was reached through some functions and commands by the input and output of variables. The number of hidden neurons and the number of gaps were selected by using the method of trial and error. This study was carried out to investigate the prevalence of MRSA and the genetic make-up of S. aureus nasal colonizers among HCWs. Methodology: Nasal swabs were obtained from 202 HCWs and 205 NHCWs and molecular characterization of identified methicillin resistant S. aureus isolates was achieved using polymerase chain reaction technique for leukocidin toxin, pyrogenic toxins and toxic shock syndrome toxin. Results: seventy-four HCWs (36.6%) were colonized with S. aureus (MSSA = 51; MRSA = 23). The overall MRSA colonization rate was 11.3 % (n/N=23/202) and 31.1% (n/N=23/74) of those colonized with S. aureus harbored MRSA. There was statistically significant difference in S. aureus colonization rate between HCWs and NHCWs (P = 0.003). Most of the 74 isolates contained at least one of the 13 enterotoxin genes. The most prevalent enterotoxin was seg (63.5%), followed by sei (55.4%), sea (45.9%), seb (36.4%), see (9.4%) and sej (5.4%). Considerable genetic diversity was detected. The present study demonstrated a relatively high rate of tst (48.6%), eta (44.5%) and luk (31%) as well as the wide occurence of enterotoxin genes among colonizing S. aureus. The highest combination between positive mecA isolates and other virulence genes was found in mecA-seg (41.8%), mecA-sei (40.5%), and mecA-sea-seb-seg-sei (24.3%). Spike protein and RBD specific serum monoclonal antibodies has been known to be elicited with the currently approved mRNA vaccine for COVID-19. Since combating SARS-CoV-2 infection begins as early at the viral entry port, mediated by mucosal immunity; whether the currently approved vaccines have the capacity to elicit mucosal immunity is still to be studied. Method; We conducted our research to detect SARS-Cov-2 IgA-RBD and IgG-NCP, in a set of a randomized three patients’ groups (total 55 subjects, randomized into 20 (Non previously infected control, 20 fully vaccinated people from AlSalam teaching hospital vaccination ward upon receiving the vaccine doses, and 15 patients newly recovered from SARS-CoV-2 infection from AlShifaa quarantine hospital after remission from COVID-19 infection and preparing to discharge) in three fluid samples serum, saliva and nasal fluid, for a total of three samples per participant, to make a total of 165 samples to be tested, using a commercial immunoassay kit (Anti-SARS-CoV-2 ELISA RBD IgA, and Anti-SARS- CoV-2 NCP ELISA IgG) the study was designed to assess the immunoglobulins levels in each sample from different health status and anatomical locations to give the statistical difference and the correct conclusion regarding this study. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 24, as well as Microsoft excel version (16.0.15028), test equations were performed via Mann-Whitney U Test, as well as The Kruskal-Wallis H test, to evaluate the non-gaussian distribution among the study group, for each of the outcomes, p < 0.05 was undertaken as statistically significant. Results; Our work showed that two doses of mRNA BNT162b2 vaccine Comirnaty (Pfizer/BioNTech, New York, NY, USA), elicited a robust anti SARS-CoV-2 nasal and salivary IgA and IgG monoclonal antibody protection (as compared to control 0.625 COI, the vaccinated subjects resulted in a higher median salivary concentration of IgG NCP values as 1.69 COI, with a p-value of 0.0001. same goes for median salivary concentration of IgA RBD with value of 2.875 ± 1.276, as compared to control median values of 0.667 ± 0.208), (as compared to control 0.462 ± 0.2369, the vaccinated subjects resulted in a higher median nasal concentration of IgG NCP values as 1.944 ± 0.694, with a p-value of 0.0001. Same goes for median nasal concentration of IgA RBD with value of 1.941 ± 0.53, as compared to control median values of 0.681 ± 0.226). Two injections 25 days a part shown to trigger a stronger titer of protective immunity as compared to single early shot, still it`s less robust compared to the titers measured for the recovered subjects from COVID-19 infection. High IL-6 levels were associated with the severity of COVID-19 and del to the use of anti-IL-6 Tocilizumab during the pandemic. Therefore, this case-control study was conducted to evaluate the role of Tocilizumab on the mortality rate among severe and critically ill COVID-19 patients. Method: A case-control study relied on the use of an electronic data collection sheet; the data were collected from February to May 2022. The study was performed on adult patients with critical COVID-19 at three major hospitals in the Gaza Strip, Palestine where patients were treated in the intensive care units (ICUs). Patients from the hospitals were included and divided into two groups by simple random sampling technique. Results: Of the 202 patients with critical COVID-19 admitted to ICUs of three hospitals, 102 (50.5%) were treated with Tocilizumab. A total of 58 (56.9%) patients in the Tocilizumab group were cured, and 44 (43.1%) died. In the control group, only 26 (26.0%) were cured and 72.0% died. There was no statistically significant effect of Tocilizumab on total hospital stay and ventilation periods. Patients treated with Tocilizumab had a longer stay in the ICU (14.02 ±8.796 days compared to 10.52 ± 9.596 days in the control group, P = 0.027), but shorter incubation periods were observed in the same group (3.25 ±1.137 days in Tocilizumab group compared to 7.38 ±3.376 days in the control group P = 0.036). Conclusion: This study found that administration of Tocilizumab can improve clinical outcomes, reduce risk of mortality, and frequency of intubation in patients severely infected with COVID-19. However, there was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of hospitalization times and mechanical ventilation needs. Based on the current report, healthcare specialists should consider Tocilizumab with the updated treatment guidelines for critically ill COVID-19 patients.","PeriodicalId":223912,"journal":{"name":"Israa University Journal for Applied Science","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114600186","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Evaluation of antacids efficacy depends on in vitro testing like acid neutralizing capacity (ANC) and acid neutralization potential (ANP). The purpose of this study was to examine ANC, ANP, and other characteristics of commercially available antacid formulations (both liquid and solid formulations) in the Gaza Strip. Methods: Both liquid (n=2) and solid (n=4) antacid formulations were acquired from the Gaza Strip’s central community pharmacies. Preliminary antacid test (PAT) was carried out to determine if the tested formulation is classified as antacid. The general monograph <301> in USP34/NF29 was used for the estimation of ANC, while ANP was investigated using Rossett Rice procedure. Both tests were conducted to evaluate the efficacy of antacid. In addition, cost effectiveness per formulation and statistical analysis test of data were calculated. Results: All formulations were classified as antacids because they all passed the PAT test (pH of antacid-HCl over 3.5). The ANC of antacids (n=6) varied from 8.74±0.37 to 29.14±0.84 mEq per minimum labeled dose (MLD). The ANC/MLD ratios for solid formulations were higher than those of liquid formulations. No statistically significant difference in ANC/MLD between the two groups was estimated (P˃.0.05). ANP test - the time duration during which an antacid formulation maintains pH above 3.5 - ranged from 43 to 90 minutes. According to this study liquids were inefficient in acid neutralization and expensive as a result. Conclusions: The ANC and ANP results indicated the better neutralizing efficacy and duration of solid antacids in comparison to liquids. A1 and A2 formulations– calcium and magnesium salt based solid antacids had the most appropriate properties in terms of efficacy, onset and duration of neutralizing activity. Antacids in the form of chewable tablets were the most cost-effective formulations. It is recommended to examine more batches of the same antacids and to add ANC data on the label of antacids.","PeriodicalId":223912,"journal":{"name":"Israa University Journal for Applied Science","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127789757","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
