The proposed antenna is suitable for integration in mobile terminals. Reactance loads are connected to the symmetrically-placed parasitic elements in order to achieve beam scanning at desirable directions at both azimuth and elevation plane. Simulation results prove that the proposed antenna is able to produce a variety of patterns with beam steering support at the principle planes. When extracting variations from measurement data, we must pay attention to the window size in the averaging procedure (and observation range) because characteristics of the extracted variation depend on the window size. However, the appropriate window size is not clear. The antenna is fed by a standard waveguide and includes a metallic planar grid of slots as radiating surface. The cavity field is used to compute the equivalent currents on the radiating apertures, obtaining from them the radiated far field. The objective of this work is to investigate the performance of a multi-faceted reflectarray designed using a direct optimization technique. To this end, a single-layer multi-faceted reflectarray, that produces a contoured beam for a European coverage in a bandwidth of 17% has been designed. The performance is compared to that of a planar reflectarray as well as a shaped reflector. In the considered frequency range, the co-polar minimum directivity within the coverage of the multi-faceted reflectarray surpasses that of its planar counterpart with more than 1dB. Compared to the shaped reflector, the difference between the co-polar minimum directivity of the multi-faceted reflectarray and the shaped reflector is only 0.3 dB. The position and orientation is selected in such a way as to decrease the correlation levels of the Received Signal Strength (RSS) fingerprints which form the radio-map. Localization algorithms are expected to perform better with reduced correlation level, thus reducing the positioning error. Due to the necessity to generate several radio-maps for the setup and environment of interest, the use of 3D ray tracing (RT) to construct the radio-maps is proposed, instead of carrying out time consuming and expensive radio measurement campaigns. The UK regulator Ofcom has released rules for computation of maximum allowed transmit power. These rules, however, allow some leeway for different algorithms for internal steps, and one would like to exploit this leeway to the advantage of secondary users, while still protecting the primary user to the required degree. The antenna design and analysis is carried out inside a homogeneous flat phantom with electrical properties equivalent to those of 2/3 human muscle tissue. The dipole antenna, printed on a high-dielectric substrate layer, exhibits a frequency resonance at 402 MHz with a wide 10-dB impedance bandwidth of 105 MHz. The proposed antenna radiates an omnidirectional far-field radiation pattern with a maximum realized gain of -31.2 dB.
