The latest phreatic eruption of the TVG occurred some 6000 years ago. Understanding the state of groundwater around the TVG can be a crucial step towards effectively assessing the risk of phreatic explosion by providing information about the sources of groundwater and the media it flows. We measured gravity changes at a superconducting gravity station and several groundwater-sensitive sites to examine the way the groundwater altered the gravity values around the TVG. Groundwater-induced gravity changes are simulated by two hydrological models (A and B). Both models show coherent seasonal variations in groundwater level and gravity value in the center of the TVG (Chintiengang). This coherence indicates inter-connected porous media for free groundwater flows below Chintiengang. However, inconsistencies between the modeled and observed gravity changes occurred in the eastern part of the TVG, suggesting here highly heterogeneous formations with fractures and barriers may exist below Chihsinshan and Dayoukeng. The gravity consistencies and inconsistencies between the observations and the models are used to delineate a volcanic aquifer, which can provide additional information for assessing the probability of a potential phreatic eruption over the TVG.","PeriodicalId":22259,"journal":{"name":"Terrestrial, Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2021-08-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41980359","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"地球科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to field observations and satellite images of sea surface temperature, we documented that the KF occurred and moved nearshore be-tween December and January before shifting seaward in March. In total, 156 species were identified among the 9896 individual larval fish collected. Multivariate analysis revealed significant differences in fish abundance and composition over time. The abundance of oceanic species increased by approximately 10% from December to January and then decreased by approximately 50% in March. Oceanic species, such as myctophid and gonostomatid fish, were dominant (37.4 - 86.5%) in the oceanic waters on the offshore side of the KF. Some coastal and commercial species, such as anchovies, were dominant (26.9 - 99.1%) in the neritic waters on the nearshore side of the KF from December to March. These results may have been influenced by spawning seasons and adult habitats. The strong front influenced the distribution of larval fish more than the weaker upwelling during winter did. Specifically, oceanic fish were brought into nearshore waters by Kuroshio water intrusion in winter. Most larvae were still restricted to the nearshore and offshore side by the KF, meaning that the strong KF was still a barrier separating most fish larvae assemblages, especially for those of the neritic species. The mechanism underlying the cross-frontal transport of fish larvae is more likely to occur in oceanic species, because it may be related to diel vertical migration behavior.","PeriodicalId":22259,"journal":{"name":"Terrestrial, Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2021-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41706332","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"地球科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the disasters that needs serious attention in coastal areas, including the coast of Jakarta, is coastal inundation. However, there is no integrated coastal inundation prediction system implemented in this area. This study aimed to build a model of coastal inundation by combining various factors, namely hydrodynamic model, wave model, and river model. The model used in this research is the integration of the Delft3D model, the WaveWatch III-SWAN model, and the SOBEK model. The results show that the simulation of the water level was in accordance with the observed data, from 30 November to 8 December 2017 during the supermoon period with a correlation accuracy of 0.9 and RMSE of 5.9 cm. However, the results of the simulation and astronomical tide prediction have a correlation of 0.81 and an RMSE is 13.6 cm. Therefore, it can be seen that the model is better than the astronomical tide prediction. The hydrodynamic model shows that Jakarta Bay has a water level range of 0.66 to 0.68 m during the supermoon period. The mapping of flood inundation areas show that the water level in the Tanjung Priok and Marunda in North Jakarta has a maximum inundation level of 50 to 100 cm with an inundation area of 272.17312 and 456.03653 m 2 . Meanwhile, our analysis for the Ancol and Kalibaru shows an inundation level of 0 to 30 cm with an inundation area of 388.04358 and 169.17656 m 2 . Our model provides better accuracy because it takes into account several important variables for modeling coastal inundation. Our early warning system proved to be accurate in providing coastal inundation prediction information for the North Jakarta area.","PeriodicalId":22259,"journal":{"name":"Terrestrial, Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69523854","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"地球科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such underfit stream features are unusual in tectonically active areas such as Taiwan. In this research, we hypothesize that the relative sea level change since the end of the last glacial period might be the main factor driving the formation of this type of landscape on the relatively recently emerged Taiwan Island. The Gangkou River is among the largest and most pristine rivers on the Hengchun Peninsula, and well-preserved river terraces and bedrock exposures occur along the river and river mouth. Therefore, the Gangkou River was thoroughly surveyed to investigate the factors shaping the landscape and to determine the landscape evolutionary history. Our research indicates that the average uplift rate of the Gangkou River is 1.5 - 1.7 mm yr -1 . Because of the low uplift rate, the rising sea level after the last glaciation caused widespread aggra-dation in the Gangkou River. At approximately 8.0 - 7.7 ka, maximum flooding oc-curred, and the sea level subsequently remained stable, while the aggradation stopped after 7.1 ka. Incision followed, forming the high terraces, and starting in the Little Ice Age, repeated aggradation and incision occurred, forming the low terraces. These processes produced the current landscape of the Gangkou River. Overall, the uplift rates calculated from this research are relatively low in this tectonically active area.","PeriodicalId":22259,"journal":{"name":"Terrestrial, Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69524068","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"地球科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
