In contemporary society, geek culture, defined by fervent interests in video games, comics, science fiction, and technology, has emerged as a prominent and influential force. The theory advanced here contends that the captivating and immersive qualities inherent in geek culture can serve as a compelling tool to shape and redirect behaviors. By leveraging the passion and engagement fostered within geek communities, this theory proposes a distinctive avenue for psychological intervention. It explores the prospect of channeling the intrinsic motivation and communal dynamics prevalent in geek culture to enact meaningful and positive changes in individuals' behaviors. This innovative approach signifies a departure from conventional psychological interventions, positioning geek culture as an untapped resource with the potential to redefine the landscape of behavioral change strategies.

One of the most vulnerable populations during this period was the oncological population. The use of telemedicine has become necessary to compensate for all this by forging medical and psychological support at a distance. Objectives: The purpose of this narrative review is to offer an overview of the literature on present scientific papers regarding tele-health psychological interventions aimed at breast cancer patients during the pandemic period of COVID-19 and discussing the reported effects. Methods: This narrative review has been realized through a revision of the scientific literature conducted from August to October 2023 using the following electronic databases: “PubMed”, “Science Direct” and “Google Scholar” typing keywords related to the pandemic period, breast cancer population and telehealth psychological interventions. For the evaluation of the effects of the interventions, the statistical indices of p-value and effect size measures were considered. Results: Online mindfulness-based interventions have been found to be significant in reducing anxiety, depression and sleep problems, and in improving self-perception of body image, quality of life, and self-efficacy. No significant results are detected in the reduction of depression symptoms and stress levels between groups. Discussions: Very limited studies investigated the topic. Further research is needed to better understand the efficacy of telepsychology during the pandemic period and deepen research in terms of other therapeutic approaches and other methods of treatment delivery. In addition, interventions based on a systemic approach, that involve both health care workers and caregivers, can be more effective for the overall well-being of breast cancer patients.

Reentry is a vulnerable period with low treatment engagement, often resulting in relapse, reincarceration, and overdose. While both linkage and multicomponent COD wraparound interventions have supported reentry, little is known about which are most effective for treatment engagement post release. Methods: This quasi-experimental study included 293 nonrandomized persons involved in the criminal legal system enrolled in a multicomponent COD intervention (n=173) or a linkage only model (n=120) for treatment. Kaplan Meier Curves and Cox Proportional Hazards were computed to determine differences in engagement. Results: Engagement was significantly different between interventions (X2=58.33, P <.0001). We observed a 73.3% reduction in hazard of early discharge for participants receiving the multicomponent COD intervention as compared to the linkage only model (P<.0001) and a higher 12-month engagement rate (51.5%) compared to the linkage only model (20.8%). Conclusions: Future research should include a randomized controlled trial to examine factors that influence post-release engagement as well as treatment effects and outcomes. We suggest that programs consider both interventions and assess client reentry needs in advance of release to match to the best suited post-release COD treatment.

Both BPD and certain forms of disordered eating are known to be associated with poor impulse control. Our aim is to identify the clinical and psychometric characteristics of patients with BPD and disordered eating, with particular emphasis on impulsivity. \u0000Methods; A convenience sample of patients with DSM-IV BPD was enrolled from five Italian outpatient mental health services. The BPD sample was divided into two groups according to the presence of clinically significant disordered eating and compared with a third group of outpatients with only disordered eating. \u0000Results; In the BPD sample, 52% had disordered eating. Patients with BPD+disordered eating had more lifetime suicide attempts (p=0.046) and hospitalizations (p=0.038) and showed higher impulsivity on the Barratt-Impulsiveness-Scale (p=0.026) specifically in the domain of attentional impulsivity (p<0.001), as well as greater depressive symptoms on the Beck-Depression-Inventory (p=0.006). A correlation was found between attentional impulsivity and all of the Eating-Disorder-Examination-Questionnaire subscales apart from the restriction one. \u0000Conclusions; Disordered eating is common among individuals with BPD and these patients represent a significantly more impulsive subgroup with a higher rate of suicidality, and therefore a challenge for clinicians. Many of them, after a period of extreme stress and uncertainty associated with the condition, developed the so-called post-pandemic stress syndrome, affecting many aspects of mental health and often making it difficult to function normally in daily life. \u0000Adequate psychological support for medics in the post-pandemic period is crucial, as it affects the functioning of the health care system worldwide. Currently, there are a variety of therapies for post-pandemic stress syndrome. These include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), cognitive processing therapy (CPT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, group therapy, Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), or Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). In the liquid society, nothing is clear, defined and fixed “once and for all”. The liquid society imposes high standards, it is highly competitive, and computerized. Obviously, this influences every aspect of life, by indeed incentivizing precarious interpersonal relationships. Our post-modern society is dominated by haste and the absence of stable ties. Within this context, adolescents and young adults should define their identity and, at the same time, should acquire the ability to flexibly redefine it, when necessary. Youth identity is forced to constantly adapt itself according to the changing society. This inevitably exposes young people to new forms of discomfort as well as psychopathologies. The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview about the current state-of-the-art of the mental health status of adolescents and young adults in post-modern society, by focusing on seven major themes: digital addiction, effects of media use on behavior and mental-health, social withdrawal, alexithymia, fluid identity, not in education/employment or training people, and self-harm and suicidality.

The current study aimed to investigate whether these character strengths play role in adolescents' participation in extracurricular activities, specifically sports. To achieve this, a demographic questionnaire and the VIA Youth Survey (96-item) were completed by 3810 adolescents in the UK. The data were analyzed using binary logistic regression, and the findings indicated that the virtues of teamwork, perseverance, leadership, spirit, and zest were predictors of participation in sports during adolescence. The results also showed significant gender differences in character strengths and participation in sports. Female students scored higher on character strengths of prudence, perseverance, kindness, and humility, while male students scored higher on creativity, spirituality, and zest. Female students were also less likely to participate in sports compared to male students. The implications of these findings for future research and practice are discussed.

In this type of show, the host’s ability to improvise is a critical factor in the show’s success. However, many presenters do not have strong improvisation skills. They cannot reasonably guide the interaction between job seekers, interviewers, and career advisors, resulting in the guests not getting the required information efficiently or the scene getting out of control, ultimately affecting the program’s communication effect. At present, there is a lack of research on how the hosts control the guests’ right to speak and how to trigger the guests to respond in job-seeking reality programmes. Therefore, this paper adopts a qualitative research method and selects the programme “Hello, Interviewer” as the research corpus, drawing on communication accommodation theory in social psycholinguistics, communication, and broadcasting to analyse the forms of improvised speech initiation by the hosts in the job-seeking reality shows. This study divides the overall process of a job-seeking reality show into three stages, including: the opening introduction - low interaction stage, multiple interactions - high interaction stage, and the end of the decision - medium interaction stage. Then, the forms of improvised speech initiation used by the hosts in each stage are summarized in relation to the corpus. The findings of this paper are expected to provide guidance to job-seeking reality show hosts to better master their discourse skills and improve their improvisation skills so as to achieve the most optimal communication effect of the programme.

The game is played by a group of players, each of whom takes on the role of a character in a fantasy world. The players work together to complete quests, overcome obstacles, and defeat monsters while a "Dungeon Master" (DM) manages the story and controls the non-player characters (NPCs). In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in using D&D and other tabletop RPGs as a form of mental health therapy. This is because the game can provide a safe and supportive environment for players to explore and express their emotions, work on personal issues, and build social skills. Tabletop RPGs can help foster personal growth in several ways: Problem-solving, Decision-Making, Emotional Intelligence, Communication, Creativity, Self-Esteem, and even Confidence. Mental health professionals have begun incorporating Tabletop RPGs into their sessions as a way to engage their clients in a fun and interactive way and it should be used in conjunction with other forms of treatment.

This undoubtedly leads any therapist working with video gamers to assume they are addicted, further guiding treatment into a reduction or complete termination of all video games. To date, there are no known uses of video games in a clinical setting as therapeutic tools. This case study illustrates use of Archetypal and Jungian therapies prescribing video games for a 10-year-old male diagnosed with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Video games were utilized as a main form of inclusion and immersion playability. He experienced a reported improvement in his symptoms across his environments. Parental involvement, therapist’s knowledge of video game worlds, and using video games’ heroic motifs were critical to the client’s understanding of himself. If an addiction lens had been utilized, the client may not have been successful. Through this comprehensive study, the research will showcase that clinicians should aim to think outside of the addiction lens while working with video gamers. As therapists are presumed to be experts in communication, it makes sense to utilize the language of the video game world to communicate and understand where the client may be presently situated. Utilizing this immersive experience opens the door for a more collaborative therapy, increasing communication about video games, playing, and extrapolating players’ experiences into real life contexts.
