The secondary objective of the empirical research is to determine the reliability and accuracy of the market risk model used by most banking sectors within the region as the primary tool for mitigating potential systematic risk. The precision of the market risk model was assessed using the 250-day trading data of major indices from five emerging ASEAN countries or known as the Tiger Cub Economies stretching from January 2018 until December 2021. It consists of two sub-samples which are known as before and during the pandemic COVID-19. The current study contributes to the existing literature on the ability of the VaR-HS model in estimating accurate market risk exposure in light of the recent pandemic COVID19 within the Tiger Cub Economies region. Interestingly, it is also evident that inaccurate VaR-HS tend to overestimate the risk and VaR-GARCH tends to severely underestimate the measures during extreme market conditions. Finally, by recalibrating models that severely over/understate the risk during pandemic stormy market conditions in SETi and VNI indices, it is also imperative that RiskMetrics EWMA could improve the estimation measures in an extreme market event by putting more weights on the most recent volatility memory. The current study reveals new insights where in the event of a crisis, HS-VaR estimates tend to be overstated while GARCH-VaR measures could be understated where it is evident that EWMA-VaR estimates could provide a better measure of market risk exposure, particularly during stormy periods.","PeriodicalId":222326,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Emerging Economies and Islamic Research","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125056277","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The researchers used a survey research design to study accounting information quality and its relationship with decision-making approach. The current work was quantitative in nature where purposive and random sampling methods were employed. The sample consists of thirty-seven (37) respondents with a mix percentage of male and female. Results from the study indicated that the quality of accounting information such as accuracy, timeliness, conciseness, relevancy, and reliability significantly aid and determine the decision-making process. From the findings of this study, it can be concluded that the quality of accounting information had a positive and significant impact on decision-making process in public-sector organizations. It was noted that decision-making and traits of financial information are cyclical in nature. They are described as input and output relationship. The study suggests that new initiatives be implemented to improve the predictive value aimed at improving decision-making using accounting information.","PeriodicalId":222326,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Emerging Economies and Islamic Research","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132776233","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such growth and development definitely have not happened to other countries at a similar speed all around the continent. The western region of Asia has developed at a similar pace as the remainder of the world. However, the eastern region has grown to an unmatched level. With this in mind, this study aims to investigate the factors that determine and influence the profitability of the financial institution in East Asia. Panel data of eight East Asian countries were selected for the time frame between 2002 to 2021. Analysis of various factors that play an important role in altering the financial institution’s profitability level was performed. These factors include the net interest margin, capital total assets, cost to income, non-performing loans, bank stability, the gross domestic product, and liquidity. The results displayed distinctive values. First, factors such as capital total assets, the stability of the bank, and gross domestic product revealed a significant influence on the net interest margin. Additionally, liquidity, the cost of income, non-performing loans, and the gross domestic product presented a decrease in the level of net interest margin. This is acceptable for the liquidity and non-performing loans since they have an inverse relationship with the net interest margin. On the other hand, a 1% increase in the capital total asset and the stability of the bank has enlarged the net interest margin by 0.05% and 0.04% successively. Hence, the results of this study may be valuable for other countries to consider in efforts to reshape their financial sector and monetary efficiency. The discoveries may also contribute significantly to the existing literature in this area since there is limited investigation concerning the East Asian region’s financial sector.","PeriodicalId":222326,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Emerging Economies and Islamic Research","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126827244","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These concepts are also not alien to conventional financial practice, except that many people cannot distinguish between interest-based and profit-based transactions. As much as shariah encouraged commercial transactions of common and fair benefit through exchanging commodities and money, it equally emphasised the need for fair play and justice for entire market stakeholders. This study aims to explore and explicates literature on the differences between conventional bank interest rates and the Islamic bank profit rate in financing. The study will describe the contractual pictures of both methodologies to analyse the convergent and divergent features between interest-based loans and profit-based financing. This study uses the Islamic legal maxim theory of \"In contracts, the effect is given to intention and meaning and not words and forms\" (Al-‘ibratu fil uqūdi lil maqāsidi wal ma’ānī lā lil alfāzi wal mabānī) as a fundamental principle in determining shariah compliant profit based in commercial transactions. This study arrived at findings on the distinctive divergent between the interest rate and profit rates in financing. The study identifies issues those convergent trigger concerns among researchers and critiques in contemporary applications can be resolved based on contractual intent and meaning rather than words and forms. This study came up with recommendations for improving the operational status of Islamic financial transactions in the profit rate.","PeriodicalId":222326,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Emerging Economies and Islamic Research","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131249663","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The econometric analysis uses OLS regressions, and various findings have emerged. Climate change vulnerability positively influences sustainable development, which can be attributed to the continuous adaptation and mitigation efforts to tackle the country's harrowing effects of climate change. Likewise, oil rents report a favourable impact on sustainable development, implying the Kingdom’s efforts to balance the adverse consequences of fossil fuel dependency on environmental quality. In contrast, the governance score is negative; hence, the composite effect on sustainable development is nefarious, although the result is statistically not significant. Furthermore, health expenditure per capita positively influences sustainable development, but the result is statistically insignificant. Moreover, the analyses also show tgrowth development, proxied by GDP, has been negatively impacting sustainable development. Lastly, FDI is found to be harmful to sustainable development in the case of Saudi Arabia. The study recommends ongoing investments towards climate change policymaking and development, and triggers strident calls for economic diversification of moving assets towards “greener” sectors. Similarly, the health care sector requires a revamp in quality and delivery s to contribute more effectively towards sustainable development. Most importantly, the governance structure and quality of institutions in Saudi Arabia require a profound transformation, so that good governance and efficient public administration become key players in the advancement of the Saudi Vision 2030 agenda, otherwise, the ambitions of the Kingdom might reach to a standstill.","PeriodicalId":222326,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Emerging Economies and Islamic Research","volume":"125 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116276944","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Additionally, there are calls from stakeholders to adopt best practices fintech solutions in waqf practice to drive efficiency in waqf transactions management, ranging from fund mobilisation, investment and disbursement and connecting donors to fundraisers. This study aims to fill a knowledge gap by explaining the factors regarding the deployment of fintech related to the 4th Industrial Revolution to improve the collection and investment of cash waqf. This paper proposes a conceptual framework for expanding cash waqf collection and performance through fintech in response to the fourth industrial revolution wave study predicting computer technology adoption behaviour. The proposed model is based on a modified framework of Davis's technology acceptance model (TAM) method, which Wallace and Sheetz (2014) adopted in their study titled 'The Adoption of Software Measures: A Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) Perspective'. The model seeks to propose measurement for the independent variable of fintech awareness and knowledge, ease and usefulness of fintech, attitude towards fintech and finally, trust and confidence toward the adoption of fintech. Finally, this study will serve as a valuable guide and provide future research insights to explore this avenue further.","PeriodicalId":222326,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Emerging Economies and Islamic Research","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128434412","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous research has revealed, however, that mobile banking use among young adults is still in its early stages and has yet to gain widespread acceptance. These youths do not have a strong knowledge of mobile banking and are apprehensive about its security. Therefore, this paper aims to investigate the factors that affect mobile banking usage intention. We administered a survey to 363 university students and analyzed the collected data using statistical software. The research results show that perceived convenience and perceived risks have a significant impact on intention of mobile banking. In addition, customer trust plays a mediator in this linkage. The results of this study provide a scientific basis for the further development of mobile banking. Besides, the expansion of mobile banking business should strengthen technological innovation, enrich the range of functions of mobile banking, reduce the risks, and improve user experience. Banks and mobile operators should strengthen cooperation to build a safe mobile banking operating system platform, improve service quality, and provide customers with better financial business support.","PeriodicalId":222326,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Emerging Economies and Islamic Research","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116981482","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous studies have shown that economic growth can affect the number of loans given and the changes in nonperforming loans in the banking sector. During the economic downturn, the amount of nonperforming loans tends to increase. Most borrowers were unable to settle down their loans because some businesses went insolvent and left the loans unpaid. Therefore, this paper investigates the impact of economic growth on non-performing loans in Malaysia. Seven commercial banks are selected to be used in the panel data regression, with the data spanning from 1995 to 2020. The result from the fixed-effect model indicates that the changes in economic growth are positively related to nonperforming loans. However, the impact of economic growth does not significantly influence the changes in nonperforming loans in Malaysian commercial banks. While findings also reveal that return on asset, financial crisis and unemployment rate has a significant relationship with the nonperforming loans, with the magnitude of variables being as expected.","PeriodicalId":222326,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Emerging Economies and Islamic Research","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130622641","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
