Although experimental research methodology is relatively new, it is useful for undertaking further research on Indonesian phonology and phonetics. It can assist in generating phonological and phonetic data as evidence of sounds within a theoretical framework. Sound pattern study by means of experimentation is selected as the theoretical framework for this research. As sound patterns of one language consist of many subparts, this research only focuses on the Indonesian plosive sound pattern. This paper examines sound pattern of Indonesian plosives and their special features. In order to do this research, a quantitative method is adopted for data collection and analysis. Indonesian words with plosives at the beginning of the second syllable and first syllable are respectively designed as stimuli for recordings. Then sound analysis software Praat is applied to measure gap and the voice onset time of plosives as parameters of data. The result of this research shows that the Indonesian plosive sound pattern forms two clear clusters on an acoustic plosive chart. Voiceless plosives have a longer gap duration than their corresponding voiced plosives. Front plosives in the vocal cavity have a longer gap than back plosives, but are shorter in VOT length. Such acoustic results will provide the basis for further research such as auditory phonetics experimental research and second language acquisition. Additionally, the visualization of abstract concepts, compared to the Chinese sound pattern, will help Indonesian learners from China better understand the Indonesian sound pattern and Indonesian language teachers to seek better solution to students’ pronunciation problems.","PeriodicalId":221379,"journal":{"name":"Linguistik Indonesia","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124021818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research applies a descriptive qualitative method. The data collecting technique used in this research are questionnaire and lexicographic stages. The questionnaire is filled by Departement of French Language’s students of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia who learn French Business course (Français des Affaires). It aims to find out their needs for business dictionary. The result shows that they need a business dictionary in French-Indonesian and they prioritize content and information structure. Moreover, the researcher will describe lexicography in this dictionary, namely the stages of its preparation and the content of the dictionary, which is macrostructure and microstructure. The macrostructure is arranged alphabetically, while the microstructure consists of definition and grammatical information. The grammatical information contained in this dictionary is four major word classes: nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs. It can be concluded that the needs of students for business-specific dictionary can be fulfilled by compiling a dictionary using lexicography.","PeriodicalId":221379,"journal":{"name":"Linguistik Indonesia","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132072366","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a case study using Indonesian Web as Corpus from the Sketch Engine, this paper measures the association between morphosyntactic forms of words in the lexical field of panas ‘hot’ and their (non-)metaphorical usages. The χ2 test demonstrates a highly significant and robust association between the morphosyntactic form of words with the root panas ‘hot’ and their preference for (non-)metaphorical usages. The clear effects are shown by (i) the strong preference of the inchoative form memanas ‘to become hot’ for metaphorical usage, and (ii) the strong dispreference of dipanaskan ‘to be caused to be hot’ and panas ‘hot’ for metaphorical usage. This finding has implication on the predominant semantic trait of words with certain morphosyntactic forms, thus capturing the form-meaning relationship in language.","PeriodicalId":221379,"journal":{"name":"Linguistik Indonesia","volume":"47 7","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114316677","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Jurnalisme lokal dicirikan oleh wilayah pemberitaan yang terbatas, sekaligus distribusi media massa cetak yang juga terbatas pada wilayah itu, dan pada umumnya kesederhanaan dalam usaha, seperti sarana kerja yang sederhana. Meskipun demikian, jurnalisme lokal berkembang mengikuti kemajuan zaman, seperti sarana penyampaian informasi yang saat ini tidak terbatas pada cetakan, tetapi juga dengan sarana teknologi informasi (media daring). Jurnalisme lokal berupaya bertahan hidup pada utamanya dengan memuat informasi yang unik tentang wilayah yang diinformasikan. Indonesia, yang kaya akan etnik, budaya, dan berbagai latar belakang masyarakat, menjadi tempat yang potensial bagi perkembangan jurnalisme lokal. Based on the quantitative and qualitative data gained through survey, interview and participant observation over several villages near and out of the three regency-city cetnters of Lombok, it was found out that the average youth mastery of the Sasak honorific vocabularies is far from adequate, and for the other their competence in using and constructing Sasak speech level is also ‘poor’, their score being respectively 56,58 and 51,55.  There are some factors that are addressed to have triggered the decreasing use of the high language variety.  First and for most important, the inadequate transfer of Base Alus from parents and elder family members to children in the home domain causes the lack of exposure of the high language variety and lead to the minimum opportunity for teenagers to listen and practice the honorific vocabularies in their home and outside. Second, out of their home in their neighbouring environment and societies they rarely heard people speaking in such respectful form of language, except in very formal situation such as feast, religious gathering, village offices. Third, the encroachment of Bahasa Indonesia in almost every domain of language use also influence the teenagers to tend to use Bahasa Indonesia when talking to ‘stranggers’ who come to their town or village eventhough they are Sasaks.  Next is the change of value in marriage system for ‘noblemen’ family results in the loose system of the use of Base Alus. However, aristocrat families who consistently practice the use of the speech level among their family members, could contribute to the maintainance of the refined language much better, but their number is limited to the very small percentage of the ‘aristocrate’ family members themselves.","PeriodicalId":221379,"journal":{"name":"Linguistik Indonesia","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116618535","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study proposes concepts on language planning which can be applied in multilingual countries like Indonesia. Based on literary research on language situations in some countries, this study describes the language situation in those countries and compares it the language situation in Indonesia. The conclusion is that the implementation of language planning in Indonesia needs various strategies; there is no single strategy which can be well applied for the whole linguistic situation in the country. Language planning in Indonesia should be started by corpus planning as a strategy to preserve local vernaculars from language endangerment. The next step is determining regulation in order to divide the domains of language use: (1) the use of Indonesian language and local vernacular(s)/colloquial(s) in diglossic regions and (2) the use of Indonesian language, the “intermediate” language and local vernaculars(s) in triglossic regions.","PeriodicalId":221379,"journal":{"name":"Linguistik Indonesia","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120811682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
