Using various approaches two prototype web services were developed and tested using different client applications in virtual learning environments. Web services as applications exploitable anywhere on any technology or platform are a promising approach for developing reusable ubiquitously accessible learning objects.","PeriodicalId":220847,"journal":{"name":"2009 EAEEIE Annual Conference","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132975447","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the one hand, the programs we present often have an ugly aspect due to the fact that we use the command line interface (console) to communicate with user, and on the other hand, these programs tend to solve very simple problems that are usually established with learning proposals in mind. In this paper we propose the use of a C++ library (BiMIP) which allows us to easily create simple graphical user interfaces, avoiding complexity from current broadly used libraries. It has been successfully used in our courses by proposing the development of graphical applications, and more specifically video games, to make the student's motivation increase with respect to the applications developed for the console.","PeriodicalId":220847,"journal":{"name":"2009 EAEEIE Annual Conference","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121418830","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The goal of our research is design an evaluation engine tool to assist in the whole assessment process within the A2UN@ project, linking that tool with the other key elements of a learning design (learning task, learning resources and learning support). The teachers would define the relation between knowledge, competencies, activities, resources and type of assessment. Providing this relation is possible obtain more accurate estimations of student's knowledge for adaptive evaluations and future recommendations. The process is supported by usage of educational standards and specifications and for an integral user modelling.","PeriodicalId":220847,"journal":{"name":"2009 EAEEIE Annual Conference","volume":"1109 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122927946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The PBL approach is in line with the convergence towards the common European Higher Education Area (EHEA), in which students will play a prominent and active role in their own learning. The selected course for this experience is related with the Design of Advanced Digital Receivers, a topic where real-life engineers have often to cope with ill structured, ambiguous and complex problems for which more than one correct answer may be possible. The results to be presented herein are based on the instructors' experience gained after two consecutive years of PBL practice on this course, and also on the feedback obtained from students.","PeriodicalId":220847,"journal":{"name":"2009 EAEEIE Annual Conference","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124438288","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While the usage of these systems gains recognition and acceptance amongst institutions, there are new problems arising that need to be solved. Because of multiplicity of platforms and approaches for systems implementation, it becomes increasingly difficult to manage or compare them. Each new LMS presents its own learning model. How to compare different e-learning platforms, and on what basis to choose the most adequate one, is a task of ever increasing importance. This paper describes and compares some widely used open-source e-learning platforms (Docebo, Moodle, Dokeos, Claroline, Atutor and Ilias) from the point of their adaptivity.","PeriodicalId":220847,"journal":{"name":"2009 EAEEIE Annual Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129227915","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
