Maintenance projects are becoming more usual than new software developments. For this reason, Computer Science education should also consider the development of abilities to deal with large existing software systems. This paper describes an approach to teach software engineering by using existing real-life software systems, through reverse software engineering techniques. The approach introduces the student into a medium-sized team which has to perform a set of modifications over an unknown large software system. The learning process is directed towards the improvement of abstraction skills, a key skill for software engineers.","PeriodicalId":220847,"journal":{"name":"2009 EAEEIE Annual Conference","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122814893","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Defining which variables and which standards can be considered to model adaptive content delivery processes is one of the main challenges in pedagogical design over e-learning environments. In this paper some specifications, architectures and technologies that can be used in contents adaptation processes considering characteristics of the context are described and a proposal to integrate some of these characteristics in the design of units of learning using adaptation conditions in a structure of IMS-Learning Design (IMS-LD) is presented. The key contribution of this work is the generation of instructional designs considering the context, which can be used in Learning Management Systems (LMSs) and diverse mobile devices.","PeriodicalId":220847,"journal":{"name":"2009 EAEEIE Annual Conference","volume":"326 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121899720","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However these competences are not addressed in the generality of engineering curricula. We believe that a set of tools and curricular activities involving students from different countries, collaborating to complete projects that generate relevant outputs to the community, might improve both students' enthusiasm and their teamwork and communication skills. That is the mission of the Multinational Undergraduate Team Work project, with which we intend to prove the benefits of such an experience on improving students' personal, academic and professional skills as required by modern society.","PeriodicalId":220847,"journal":{"name":"2009 EAEEIE Annual Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128971634","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, we describe a platform used in the subject “The basics of computer architectures”. This subject is studied during the first year of the Bachelor Degree of Telecommunication Engineering (especiality in Telematics). This platform was designed to allow the students to work with a hypothetic computer simulator remotely via Internet. We describe an experience based on voluntary activities in which the students have the possibility to evaluate their skills writing routines on this simulator. Results of this experience confirm that the use of this platform motivates the students to work autonomously and in turns increases their learning about computer architectures.","PeriodicalId":220847,"journal":{"name":"2009 EAEEIE Annual Conference","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124279890","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When a student or an employer reads course descriptions they usually miss a lot of important information. Course descriptions and the transcript of records normally state only the professional goals. We propose that this tacit knowledge should be analyzed, published and advertised both to students and employers.","PeriodicalId":220847,"journal":{"name":"2009 EAEEIE Annual Conference","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129165077","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
