The widely adopted coherent signal subspace method(CSSM) focuses the signal subspaces at various frequencies into a common one through focus matrices preprocessing. The preliminary DOAs estimation is required by the classical CSSM to compute the focusing matrices. But the error of preliminary DOAs estimation sometimes will degrade the performance of the classical CSSM seriously. In this paper, we propose the new wideband DOA estimation algorithm for planar arrays which is also a kind of CSSM but does not need the initial DOAs estimation. Computer simulation is presented to illustrate the effectiveness of our algorithm.","PeriodicalId":220276,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communication Systems","volume":"127 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132152832","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a complex nonlinear system, the immune system is chaotic. This paper introduces chaos into the clonal selection algorithm by a novel mutation method, self-adaptive chaotic mutation (SACM). In detail, based on the logistic chaotic sequence, SACM extracts antibody's affinity and distribution to adjust the mutation scale. Compared with the clonal selection algorithm using random mutation and standard genetic algorithm, the improved clonal selection algorithm can enhance the precision and stability, and overcome prematurity effectively with a high convergence speed.","PeriodicalId":220276,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communication Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133724496","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Beamformers need a priori information about the microphone array and the direction of arrival of the target speech source. For head-worn arrays it is usually assumed that the user physically steers the arrays' look direction toward the desired speech source. This may become unsatisfying for the hearing aid user for high directivity beamformers with a small main lobe and when the target signal source is moving. In this contribution an automatic steering (electronic control of the look direction) is applied based on the dual delay line approach after Liu et al. [1]. This approach is modified to be applicable for head-mounted hearing-aid arrays. We show that the original free-field approach does not work on a head-mounted array because of the inappropriate propagation model. If we apply the true HRTF or a spherical head propagation model, the estimate is reliable within plusmn8deg degree mean estimation error for an input SNR of 10 dB or higher. However, for lower SNR the method seems to be not robust enough.","PeriodicalId":220276,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communication Systems","volume":"121 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114984900","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there exist some typical problems when capturing palmprint images. First, the delta region in the center palm will raise the uneven light and brightness of the palmprint images varying with hand pressure, stretching and palm structure. Second, it is hard to align the palmprint images precisely to the same position, especially when the subjects are required to spread their hand on the scanner surface, even for the same palm. Either the global or the local features cannot satisfy the need for high recognition accuracy. Therefore, we propose a novel method using fusion of local and global features, extracted by non-negative factorization with sparseness constraint (NMFsc) and prominent component analysis (PCA), respectively, to improve the recognition performance. Experiments demonstrate the strong supplementary between local and global features for palmprint recognition.","PeriodicalId":220276,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communication Systems","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128315512","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, BER performance and complexity of various equalizer methods are compared and analyzed under measured outdoor channels. Besides, a FFT-circulant with tapering equalization approach is proposed for the downlink HSDPA receiver. Results show that with tapering technique, the fast FFT-circulant equalizer can ease its high conditional number problem at a high SNR multipath channel. Simulations also show that the CG method has a satisfactory BER improvement. However, its performance depends notably on its iterative number and requires higher computational complexity than the FFT-circulant with tapering method.","PeriodicalId":220276,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communication Systems","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134585307","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
