Watts","doi":"10.3958/059.048.0307","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.3958/059.048.0307","url":null,"abstract":"Aedes aegypti (Linnaeus) is a medically important mosquito species and the primary vector of dengue, Zika, Chikungunya, and yellow fever viruses. Although Ae. aegypti feeds preferentially on humans, feeding on non-human vertebrates has been observed in South Texas and northern Mexico. Geographical northern expansion and feeding behavior of this medically important mosquito into the Chihuahua Desert are not well understood. The objective of this study was to identify vertebrate hosts that are sources of blood meals for adult Ae. aegypti captured from 2016-2018 in gravid traps in two nonincorporated urban communities of Sparks in El Paso County, Texas and Anapra at Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico along the U.S.-Mexico border. In total, 44 fully engorged female Ae. aegypti (17 at Sparks and 27 at Anapra) were captured during this binational study. Of the 44, 17 were successfully sequenced to determine if the host was human Homo sapiens (Linnaeus), dog Canis lupus familiaris (Linnaeus), cat Felis catus (Linnaeus), or chicken Gallus domesticus (Linnaeus). At Sparks, four Ae. aegypti fed on dogs, one fed on a human, and one fed on a chicken. At Anapra, eight fed on humans, two fed on dogs, and one fed on a cat. This provides a preliminary understanding of host feeding by Ae. aegypti in the temperate/arid climatic region of the northern Chihuahua Desert. Se reportan nuevos registros de colecta de las tres especies de viudas conocidas para México en los estados de Sonora y Coahuila. Abstract. In Mexico three spider species in the genus Latrodectus (Araneae: Theridiidae) have been reported, all are of great medical importance due to the highly potent neurotoxin α-latrotoxin affecting mammals, requiring in some cases hospitalization of people affected by their bites. Sin embargo, algunas especies con hábitos ambrosiales son relevantes para el cultivo de aguacate al ser vectores de hongos fitopatógenos. Para determinar la respuesta de atracción de individuos de Scolytinae a atrayentes químicos, se evaluó alfa-copaeno, querciverol, alfa-copaeno + querciverol y etanol en trampas de intersección tipo Lindgren de ocho embudos. La prueba de regresión binomial negativa mostró un efecto significativo sobre las capturas de escolitinos a diferentes tratamientos (P < 0.001). El etanol y la combinación alfa-copaeno + querciverol fueron más eficientes en especies con hábitos ambrosiales. Las especies más abundantes con estos hábitos fueron Corthylus flagellifer Bladford, Corthylus luridus Blandford, Xyleborus volvulus Fabricius y Corthylus detrimentosus Schedl, que respondieron significativamente a ambos tratamientos. The first was found from the V8 stage of development on, while the second and third were collected from V5 to R1. (Fabacae), es el tercer cultivo más valioso en los Estados Unidos después del maíz, Zea mays L., y soja, Glycine max (L.) Merr, y proporciona ingresos de más de $ 104,000,000 anuales en Oklahoma. El gorgojo de la alfalfa, Hypera postica Gyllenhal (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), es la plaga principal quecausa una defoliación significativa, pérdida de rendimiento y menos rodales. Si bien son económicos y efectivos, los piretroides, especialmente aquellos que contienen lambda-cihalotrina, son recientemente menos efectivos.
