However, studies on post-disaster recovery and reconstruction of model villages are rare. This paper discusses the political and economic significance of the construction of model villages after landslide disaster, and the difference between model villages and non-model villages. At the same time, the paper discusses the relationship between model village and community demand; and various problems and contradictions in the construction of a model village. With the advancement of the policy of precise poverty alleviation and rural strategy in China, the research on model villages will receive much attention. The construction of post-disaster recovery model village can provide an idea for post-disaster reconstruction in future.","PeriodicalId":219027,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Business Anthropology","volume":"223 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116037642","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, for a long period, Tibetan tea produced in Sichuan remained the primary variety sold to Tibet, and it enjoyed irreplaceably important status. In the late Qing dynasty, especially after the Xinhai Revolution in 1911, the relationship between Tibet and the central government weakened under British armed intervention. The sales volume of Tibetan tea produced in Sichuan kept dropping due to unsmooth roads leading to Tibet, excessively high prices and especially the dumping of Indian tea. In the meantime, with the opening of marine corridor of Yunnan tea, the cost of marine transport of Yunnan tea to Tibet was reduced greatly, and its sales volume in Tibet kept on rising. In the early Republican China period, Yunnan tea became the main variety of inland tea in place of Tibetan tea produced in Sichuan. The marine corridor rose when Indian tea was dumped in Tibet after the two Britain-Tibet wars, frustrating Britain’s attempt of monopolizing the Tibetan tea market while supplying daily necessities to the Tibetan people, and playing an important role of maintaining connections between Tibet and inland China.","PeriodicalId":219027,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Business Anthropology","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133339415","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The background of bilateral relations between China and Botswana from diachronic perspectives is introduced, firstly. This provides the context for discussing the origin of the project. Then, the paper reveals the cooperative and conflictive aspects embedded in the construction of the factory from synchronic perspectives, through data obtained from participant observation. These include operation mode, Chinese company’s adaption to Botswana local laws and regulations, the gaming between the partners, industrial diversification of Botswana, impacts of political struggle in Botswana on the project, etc. This paper further juxtaposes the discourse generated by the media with in-depth interviews with all parties involved in the projects to show the tremendous differences between these two distinct cultures, systems, and ideologies.","PeriodicalId":219027,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Business Anthropology","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122234457","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to the recent Indian National Sample Survey 2 , there are 90.2 million agricultural households in rural India, which is 57.8 per cent of the total estimated rural households (156.1 million) in the country. For these farming communities, agricultural market is the backbone. Markets tend to marginalize small farmers for lack of assets, want of adequate quality and quantity of assets, and finally the inner dynamics of market itself. If the market marginalizes the farmers, the farmers have no choice but to leave farming or leave this world. The consequent outcome of this situation will be alarming for a country and it may impose socio-economic and political crisis that can adversely affect the business environment of a country. However, India also has stories of valiant fight against this marginalization of small farmers. This paper is an outcome of an ethnographic study to understand the process of marginalization of small farmers in the market. It elucidates some of the strategies these farming communities have developed in managing the markets. The study narrates the successful grassroots story of managing markets in a creative manner.","PeriodicalId":219027,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Business Anthropology","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134343484","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The following steps were involved for this construction. First, we reviewed the literature on context free well-being and job well-being from western perspectives (e.g., hedonism, eudemonism) as well as Chinese culture. Then we completed a qualitative study (interviews, focus group discussions) and proposed a preliminary job well-being model. A preliminary scale was developed based on the job well-being model and existing scales in related fields. Further, we conducted another quantitative study to verify and modify the qualitative findings. We finally established a 7-dimension scale for Chinese job well-being. It has satisfactory reliability and validity, suggesting its potential applicable to Chinese culture. Despite being similar to the western model in some dimensions (e.g., intrinsic satisfaction, job competence), this job well-being model has some dimensions reflecting the uniqueness of Chinese culture (e.g., harmony, recognition from others). Moreover, high positive affect and autonomy, which are important for well-being in the west, are not obvious in this model. The different findings from China suggest the significance of conducting indigenous job well-being studies.","PeriodicalId":219027,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Business Anthropology","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126381220","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Anthropology is actor (human)–centred and context (socio-ecological complex)–focused. Its approach to improving business performance tends to raise the actors’ awareness of their own contexts, not only at the micro-level (organization, stakeholders, market segment) but also at the macro-level (community, place-system). An anthropologist’s help in management is basically about raising business actors’ awareness and sustaining their efforts in adding value to their organizational assets and resources, as well as in improving the quality of their operational context. The anthropological difference rests with a holistic perspective and a long-range view to enhance the value of products/services of the workplace and human resources, of the business process, and of the entire context where the business is going on (place-system, community).","PeriodicalId":219027,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Business Anthropology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130207704","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
