In parallel, their complexity has also increased significantly since current devices are endowed with different types of sensors, thereby having multiple sensing capabilities. By combining the data gathered by different smartphones it is possible to achieve the monitoring of any region of interest with a high spatial and temporal granularity, thereby embracing the crowdsensing paradigm. In this paper we move in this direction by tuning smartphones so that they become accurate noise-sensing units. In particular, our focus is on the processes of sound capture and sound processing, determining the impact of different noise calculation approaches on the noise estimation accuracy; the latter is obtained through comparison against a professional noise sensing device. Through real experiments we find that, with a proper tuning, it is possible to achieve noise measurements in the entire dynamic range of typical smartphones (35 to 95 dB SPL) with an accuracy comparable to that of professional devices.","PeriodicalId":218635,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing & Multimedia","volume":"118 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132973948","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In literature, these objects are named as \"social objects\". In this paper, an intuitive paradigm of social interactions between these objects is argued and model. The purpose of the model is to analyze the impact of social-like capabilities on the interaction pattern of social objects in a peer-to-peer resource sharing scenario. Adopting an agent-based modeling method and simulation, a comparative study of competitive vs. cooperative behavior of peers is demonstrated. The simulation results reveal that the social capabilities of peers imparts a significant increase in the quality of interactions between social objects. Typically, the nature of underlying structure of network connectivity has a profound impact. The small-world network is not only closer to the social paradigm that surround us, but also, competes with an unbounded network; such as a mesh network.","PeriodicalId":218635,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing & Multimedia","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125445253","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The current approach followed by neurologists for the classification of such abnormal motor behavior is based on a completely manual analysis of video recordings of patients undergoing emotional stimulation made on-site by medical specialists. With the double aim of supporting neurologists in such a delicate task and facilitating the experience of patients, avoiding them to conduct video recordings at hospitals, in this position paper we advocate the use of automatic video content analysis techniques and mobile multimedia technologies in order to solve the problem. In particular, we propose a medical tool, built on top a general and extensible framework for the effective and efficient management of video collections, that allows patients (i.e., video producers) to record videos through the use of smart devices and neurologists (i.e., video consumers) to automatically identify the presence of the disease by means of a user friendly GUI. Preliminary results achieved on the recognition of one of most recurrent cataplexy motor behaviours pattern (namely, ptosis) and conducted on real data demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed solution and encourage further investigations in this direction.","PeriodicalId":218635,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing & Multimedia","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127691790","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The MAiThE (Mobile Apps to improve ThErapy) project focuses on the deployment and study of personalised mHealth apps to provide patients and carers with self-management capabilities to help them feel empowered in their ability to find strategies in a more informed and collaborative way, and to optimise therapy outside the clinical context, with remote support from health practitioners. The insight gathered with the development and assessment of the apps tailored to the end-users' needs will result in a conceptual model to guide in the development of future mHealth apps. The project will produce an impact study based on thorough apps evaluations conducted on the field with participants from different contexts.","PeriodicalId":218635,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing & Multimedia","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129685343","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

OPC-UA is defined as a communication standard for smart grids and smart factories, and it extends the scope of its usage by collaborating with many other standards. Currently, most of the factories in Korea have CNCs without communication functions and are mainly used to send and receive the processed files using FTP. Therefore, a smart sensor is required to secure the data required for the configuration of the smart factory. The smart sensor manufactured in this paper can be installed independently and easily applied to the smart factory management system because the OPC-UA communication middle-ware is sitting atop of it. Later, if necessary, the manufactured smart sensor system can be used to control specific equipment.","PeriodicalId":218635,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing & Multimedia","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128741557","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main motivation is that, by considering the current context of the mobile user, more relevant suggestions can be provided. However, further research is required to enable the effective deployment of mobile CARS. In this paper, we study the possibility to implement mobile CARS by using a pure mobile P2P (Peer-to-Peer) approach, where no centralized database or server exists. Instead, the mobile devices of the users propagate rating information in an opportunistic way, when they become neighbors from a communication point of view. We study the problem by considering a specific use case scenario: the recommendation of items to observe in a museum. Besides, we exploit a synthetic generator of datasets for the evaluation of CARS, called DataGenCARS, to build the recommendation scenarios based on real and synthetic data.","PeriodicalId":218635,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing & Multimedia","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126263978","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, moving beyond common security approaches to make it possible to neutralize and react to security attacks at their early stages, becomes a requisite. We develop in this paper a formal model for the proactive assessment of security damages. We define a network of observer agents capable of observing incomplete information about attacks and affected cyber systems, and generating security observations useful for the identification of ongoing attack scenarios and their evolution in the future. A set of analytics are developed for the generation and management of scenario contexts as a set of measures useful for the proactive assessment of damages in the future, and the launching of countermeasures. A case study is provided to exemplify the proposal.","PeriodicalId":218635,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing & Multimedia","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115604527","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the high mobility of vehicles, existing approaches have difficulty satisfying the two main requirements simultaneously for such applications: minimizing dissemination delay and achieving reliability. This paper proposes a cluster-based broadcasting scheme called Efficient Density-Aware Warning Message Dissemination Scheme for Clustered VANETs (EDWD). EDWD aims at delivering emergency message to specific areas (zone of risk and zone of relevance) in time. Hence, drivers can be informed early to slow down or to take another route. Based on estimated node density, the cluster head selects one or more gateway nodes to relay the emergency message. In sparse scenario, the current relay may forward such urgent message to a node of the opposite direction unless there is neighbor within the same direction. The process continues until the message reaches the zone of relevance. This mechanism aims at avoiding multiple accidents and reducing traffic jam by disseminating the emergency message at high speed to relevant vehicles","PeriodicalId":218635,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing & Multimedia","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130517066","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
