Nanomaterials based on binary and multicomponent oxides are of interest for the development of catalysts, photocatalysts, gas sensors, solar cells, as well as in other fields. The most effective methods to produce oxide systems of various compositions are those of chemical co-deposition, as well as two-stage approaches.Aim. To develop sensor nanomaterials based on ZnO, Zn–Fe–O, and Zn–Sn–O ternary oxide nanosystems, as well as to develop methods for assessing their properties.Materials and methods. ZnO and ZnFe2O4 nanopowders were synthesized by chemical coprecipitation, and ZnFe2O4 and Zn2SnO4 nanostructures were produced by modifying ZnO nanowires. The surface chemical composition and microstructure were studied using scanning electron microscopy, backscattered electron diffraction, and Xray photoelectron spectroscopy. The sensor responses of the samples to vapors of organic solvents were analyzed.Results. The response value of zinc oxide and zinc ferrite samples synthesized by chemical coprecipitation was found to be 2–4 orders of magnitude higher than that of modified zinc oxide nanowires. The formation of ternary oxide nanostructures led to an increase in the sensor response of zinc oxide nanowires. This effect can be explained by the formation of adsorption sites of various types during formation of such systems. The samples produced by chemical coprecipitation showed an extremely high sensor response. This may be due to the formation of fractal structures at the percolation threshold.Conclusion. ZnO and ZnFe2O4 oxide nanostructures produced by chemical coprecipitation exhibit a high sensor response to acetone and ethanol vapors. Methods for the formation of multicomponent oxide systems with improved sensor properties compared to the original zinc oxide nanowires were developed. The resultant sensor nanomaterials are promising for use as sensitive layers of gas sensors for detecting organic solvent vapors.","PeriodicalId":217555,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Russian Universities. The use of non-equidistant pulse sequences as probing radar signals makes it possible to eliminate blind spots in speed and range. However, the implementation of multi-channel Doppler filtering (MDF) based on the classical fast Fourier transform (FFT) algorithm of non-equidistant signal samples in the signal detection problem is associated with energy losses. The use of modified FFT algorithms increases the efficiency of MDF against the background of white Gaussian noise, while reducing the efficiency of signal accumulation in the part of signal processing channels blocked by the narrow-band clutter. To eliminate this drawback, the authors previously proposed using combined classical and modified FFT algorithms. However, the use of the combined method does not lead to an optimal solution in terms of MDF efficiency.Aim. Optimization of weight processing of non-equidistant signals to improve the efficiency of MDF.Materials and methods. An MDF synthesis was carried out using optimization procedures, and the effectiveness of the algorithms was assessed using computer calculations.Results. The results show that the Kaiser Bessel window with a window parameter of 4.42 provides the highest signal-(clutter+noise) ratio improvement coefficient averaged over frequency channels equal to 30.06 dB and the highest probability of correct signal detection averaged over MDF channels equal to 0.5 at processing of non-equidistant pulse sequences. Optimization of the weight processing of MDF under the specified conditions increased the average efficiency characteristics used of up to 53.18 dB and 0.92, respectively.Conclusion. Separate optimization of weighting processing for each frequency channel can significantly improve the average efficiency characteristics of a multichannel Doppler filter and eliminate all the shortcomings of the classical and modified FFT algorithms when processing non-equidistant pulse sequences. However, these advantages are achieved at the cost of not using the FFT, i.e., implemented within the framework of the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) algorithm.","PeriodicalId":217555,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Russian Universities. Directional drilling is a conventional method for trenchless installation of underground communications, exploration of solid minerals, and geological exploration. These tasks can be implemented using a directional drilling installation equipped with a high-precision unit for determining the drilling head coordinates to match the current and specified drilling routes. The problem of obtaining precise coordinates (depth, zenith, azimuth) of the drilling head is a priority task in trenchless drilling. We previously considered an acoustic method for monitoring the drilling head position in a directional drilling device. In this work, we consider a radar complex for monitoring the drilling head position from the surface of the earth with fixed transponder beacons. The radar method for obtaining such information allows the drilling process to be optimized by increasing the positioning accuracy, providing for constant automatic position monitoring, as well as reducing the time and financial costs.Aim. To demonstrate the possibility of constructing a radar complex for obtaining information about positioning of the drilling head of a directional drilling installation based on transponder beacons distributed on the surface of the earth.Materials and methods. The study was based on the physical principles used in mobile systems, i.e., determining the location of the probe and its parameters using radio signals emitted by the probe in the frequency range of tens of kHz, to minimize the influence of soil inhomogeneities.Results. The possibility of using the radar method for obtaining the drilling head coordinates when monitoring its position during drilling operations was studied. The operational principle of such a radar complex was considered; the schemes of positioning transponder beacons on the surface of the earth and relative to the drilling head were developed; a technology for supporting drilling operations using this method was described.Conclusion. We propose an approach to determining the drilling head coordinates and their automatic monitoring in real time. At present, video data acquired in narrow spectral bands are widely used to improve the efficiency of diagnostics in various medical fields, laparoscopy in particular. Conventional laparoscopy uses images obtained in the white light. Images obtained in the visible range suitably depict the color and textural features of tissues. However, it is difficult for a physician to use visible images for distinguishing between lesion areas and normal tissues, largely due to their proximity in color and texture. The efficiency of lesion detection can be improved using fluorescence images, which clearly differentiate lesion areas from normal tissues. However, the use multispectral data implies the need to present the images obtained both in the white and fluorescence light to the physician. In this paper, we propose an image composition method based on visible and fluorescence images, which facilitates their analysis by physicians. A distinctive feature of the method is the use of CIEDE 2000 metric for image fusion, which takes the properties of human vision into account.Aim. Development of a method for multispectral data visualization, which provides a physician with an image that combines white light data and a color-highlighted area of lesions.Materials and methods. The proposed method consists of the following steps: preprocessing of images obtained in visible and fluorescence light; segmentation of the lesion area in the fluorescence images; generation of a pseudo-color image of the segmented lesion area; and fusion of the pseudo-color image with the image obtained in the white light.Results. The proposed method forms an image that includes an image of the operation area obtained in the white light and a separated lesion area based on fluorescence information in the near infrared range. The image composite takes the properties of human vision into account. An experimental study of the method was carried out on actual laparoscopic images, involving endoscopists who were experts in subjective evaluation of video images. The method of paired comparisons was used to evaluated the presented images. The majority of experts preferred the fused image formed by the proposed method to those visualized simultaneously in the white and fluorescence light.Conclusion. Bandpass filters on surface acoustic waves (SAW) are important components in frequency selection devices for receiving and transmitting electronic equipment. Among the variety of existing requirements for SAW filters, particular attention is paid to those for the quality of characteristics, including reduction of insertion losses, unevenness in the bandwidth, etc., and those for reducing the development time of the filter. Reduction in the development time along with a simultaneous reduction in expenses can be achieved through the application of preliminary computer simulation. This task can be implemented only through an integrated approach to developing a computer-aided design system capable of solving optimization problems with a large number of degrees of freedom.Aim. Development of a prototype of a fully functional complex for simulating and calculating SAW filters. Approbation of work on the creation of actual frequency filters on the example of resonator SAW filters with low losses on leaky SAWs. Development of a methodological approach to creation of a technology of computer-aided design of SAW filters using optimization algorithms.Materials and methods. The theoretical part of the work was carried out using statistical analysis methods, circuit theory, and coupled mode theory. In the course of the work, mathematical processing and calculation were carried out in the MATLAB environment.Results. A concept for creating a system of automated design of SAW filters with specified frequency characteristics was developed. An original method is proposed for optimizing the topology of SAW filter elements to obtain the maximum achievable frequency responses. The proposed approach was tested when calculating a resonator filter on leaky SAWs at 64° YX-cut lithium niobate.Conclusion. The proposed integrated approach to designing SAW filters allows a rapid and relatively accurate prediction of filter characteristics at the modeling stage, which has a significant advantage compared to conducting numerous real experimental studies or numerical studies in the presence of a large number of degrees of freedom.","PeriodicalId":217555,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Russian Universities. Currently, the impact of phase shifter (PS) failures on the characteristics of phased antenna arrays, slotted waveguide array antenna (SWAA) in particular, represents a significant problem. A review of publications shows that insufficient attention has been paid to PS failures.Aim. To investigate the characteristics of a SWAA in the event of PS failures, when their phase takes a value equal to zero instead of the required value.Materials and methods. The methods of statistical modeling methods were used to study the impact of failures on SWA characteristics. Calculations were carried using the Mathcad 15 software package.Results. An algorithm for statistical modeling of the impact of PS failures on SWAA characteristics is proposed. A relationship that connects the radiation pattern with the volume of the statistical sample and the number of failed PSs is given. The malfunctions of emitters from 5 to 35 out of 50 elements were studied. Changes in the following characteristics were obtained: standard deviation – from 0.064 to 0.18, radiation pattern width – from 8 to 18 %, the level of side lobes – from 13 to 59 %, radiation power – from 0.9 to 0.3.Conclusion. The results obtained can be used in radio-electronic systems with antenna arrays at the stage of their development. Future work will address PS failures with phases being established randomly and with random values, as well as the case of PS failures where power does not pass into the emitter. The conventional approach to extending the operating frequency band of Vivaldi antenna arrays consists in increasing the radiating element length. However, this inevitably leads to an increase in the mass of the entire array, and, therefore, to a rapid growth in the cross-polarization level. Recent studies in this field have mainly focused on techniques for reducing the cross-polarization level. At the same time, the possibility of developing Vivaldi antenna arrays with an extended operating frequency band, primarily without changing the overall dimensions of the elements or the antenna array pitch, remains insufficiently studied.Aim. Design and study of the Vivaldi antenna radiating element that ensures operation of the array in a wider operating frequency band without increasing its overall dimensions and weight.Materials and methods. A numerical study of the characteristics of a unit-cell with periodic boundary conditions on the side faces was carried out in the ANSYS HFSS software. A comparative analysis of the unit-cell characteristics of the prototype antenna array and the proposed design was carried out.Results. The design of the Vivaldi antenna radiating element is presented. The influence of some geometric parameters on the characteristics of the antenna array is studied. A comparative analysis of the unit-cell characteristics of two infinite single-polarization antenna arrays based on a regular Vivaldi element and the proposed solution is carried out. The possibility of improving the antenna array bandwidth by 18.6 % and improving cross-polarization by 15 dB on certain frequencies without increasing the overall dimensions or the antenna array pitch is shown.Conclusion. The proposed Vivaldi antenna design makes it possible to extend its operating frequency band without increasing the overall dimensions. Analysis of the quality of wheat grain using instrumental methods is an important task due to the permanent growth in annual wheat production and export. Digital radiography is a promising method for studying the internal structure of wheat grain. Along with other methods, digital radiography allows non-destructive testing and comprehensive description of grain parameters.Aim. To determine the capabilities of digital radiography for studying the structure of wheat grain.Materials and methods. Digital X-ray images were obtained using a multifunctional mobile x-ray diagnostic unit produced by JSC \"ELTECH-Med\" was used with the installation tube voltage of 9 kV. Durum wheat grain samples of different varieties were used. Operations for processing grain images were automated using the scripts developed in Python using the numpy and opencv libraries.Results. The attenuation of X-ray radiation by grain material was studied. Wheat bran was found to exhibit a greater attenuation coefficient than the endosperm, assumably due to the higher concentration of potassium and phosphorus in the wheat outer layer. The calculated ratio of the attenuation coefficients of the bran to the endosperm was 1.27, compared to the experimentally obtained value of 1.36. The influence of the geometric shape of wheat grain on the formation of its X-ray image was determined. A method for describing the geometric shape of wheat grain using second-order curves was presented. A mathematical model for the transmission of X-ray radiation in wheat grain was constructed, taking into account its complex shape and the heterogeneous distribution of macroelements therein. This model allows estimation of the attenuation coefficients of the grain endosperm and outer layer using a non-destructive method.Conclusion. Digital radiography is an effective method for studying wheat when carrying out research and breeding tasks. The proposed model for the transmission of X-ray radiation in wheat grain can be used to numerically determine some indicators of grain quality.","PeriodicalId":217555,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Russian Universities. Non-Foster elements (NFEs) mimic behavior of hypothetical negative inductors or capacitors in a certain frequency band. NFEs are used to compensate reactance of conventional inductors and capacitors that allows designing broadband microwave devices. To realize NFEs, active circuits referred to as negative impedance converters (NICs) are employed to convert the load impedance into the negative input impedance. The conversion error, caused by non-optimal choice of NIC parameters and non-idealities of NIC components, limits the accuracy and operating bandwidth of NFEs. The necessity to account for many factors, which indirectly and oppositely impact the final result, and unavailability of a universal design methodology complicate the design of NFEs significantly. As a result, broadband NFE characteristics differ from the target ones remarkably that limits practical applications.Aim. Elaboration of a design methodology to compensate the Linvill’s NIC conversion error and realize high-accuracy broadband negative inductors.Materials and methods. Influence of NIC constituent parameters on the negative inductor frequency characteristics is considered. The performed analysis and the identified relationships allowed us to propose a step-by-step methodology to design negative inductors having tight tolerance over a broad frequency band. The use of a transmission line section instead of a lumped inductor in the NIC load when realizing negative inductors of high absolute values is shown to be advantageous as this allows providing better tolerance and wider bandwidth.Results. In order to demonstrate possibilities enabled by the proposed methodology, simulation results are presented for the GHz-range negative inductors with a set of inductance and tolerance values.Conclusion. The results obtained show that the proposed methodology makes it possible to compensate the conversion error without any numerical optimization and therefore to reduce the deviation of the negative inductance from the target value in the given frequency range or to broaden the bandwidth for a given tolerable deviation of the negative inductance.","PeriodicalId":217555,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Russian Universities. Recent years have seen a growing interest in studying the nonlinear properties of spin waves. Nonlinear phenomena, such as envelope solitons, nonlinear frequency shifts of intense spin waves, and etc., have attracted particular attention. However, a number of important issues remain to be underexplored, including the problem of induced nonlinear phase shift of spin waves. The relevance of this problem is related to the need to develop spin-wave logic gates that could be controlled by changing the spin wave phase.Aim. To study a nonlinear XNOR logic gate whose operation is based on the induced nonlinear phase shift of a spin wave.Materials and methods. An original theory is used to simulate the frequency response of a nonlinear XNOR logic gate. The operating principle of the nonlinear XNOR logic gate is substantiated. The possibility of implementing the nonlinear XNOR logic gate in a circuit similar to a spin-wave Mach-Zehnder interferometer is experimentally demonstrated.Results. An experimental study of the induced nonlinear phase shift of operating signals incident on identical nonlinear spin-wave phase shifters located in the arms of the logic gate was carried out. It is shown that an increase in the pump signal power up to 60 mW, supplied to nonlinear phase shifters, changes the induced nonlinear phase shift of the operating signal by more than 180°. Hence, nonlinear phase shifters can be used for constructing spin-wave logic gates. In addition, the operating principle of a spin-wave logic gate was experimentally studied. It is shown that the XNOR logical function is implemented in the low-frequency part of the device’s frequency response characteristic.Conclusion. Numerical simulation of the characteristics of a nonlinear XNOR logic gate based on the Mach-Zehnder interferometer circuit was carried out. It is shown that its logical functions are implemented due to the effect of an induced nonlinear phase shift of spin waves in nonlinear phase shifters located in different arms of the logic gate.","PeriodicalId":217555,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Russian Universities.
