An intelligent shop floor is able to react to changes in a positive way. To give the early warning of the system/equipment health conditions and mission execution capability to the supervisory control will improve the productivity and efficiency of the shop floor. This paper presents a new concept called iDiagnosis & Prognosis - an intelligent diagnosis, prognosis, manufacturing system condition and mission execution capability assessment system. It focuses on the investigation of system health condition indicator, generic diagnosis & prognosis information structure and system framework to effectively support dynamic manufacturing management. The system functions, components and the integration issues in the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is discussed. The prototype system is introduced and the effectiveness of the proposed framework is evaluated.","PeriodicalId":217373,"journal":{"name":"2009 7th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128320578","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among types of knowledge to be discovered, classification knowledge is widely explored in engineering applications. A variety of methods exist for learning classification knowledge using crisp sets. This paper presents a new fuzzy rule learner called FuzzyRULES (for Fuzzy RULe Extraction System) that is based on fuzzy sets. The use of fuzzy sets not only provides a powerful, flexible approach to deal with vagueness and uncertainty, but also increases the expressive power and comprehensibility of the learning algorithm. Experimental results show that FuzzyRULES induces highly accurate and comprehensible rules.","PeriodicalId":217373,"journal":{"name":"2009 7th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128383634","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Networked Embedded Devices (NEDs) are making the electricity grid itself, the homes and the factories smarter, increasing the possibilities of collaboration among them. It is expected that NEDs will offer their functionality as one or more services, one of which will be a real-time measurement of the energy they consume or produce. In such highly distributed heterogeneous infrastructures it is clear that the metering goes beyond the classical understanding; it is becoming ubiquitous, distributed and will be the core for future value added services. Modeling such dynamic event-based systems is a challenging approach. We focus our work on simulating large scale infrastructures where multiple web-service enabled devices offer metering data on an event based mode and provide some metrics for evaluating them.","PeriodicalId":217373,"journal":{"name":"2009 7th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"2011 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127374741","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The regional network management system is suggested to tackle these industrial challenges through ubiquitous deployment of autonomous regional controllers with reliable and flexible communication among them. Such regional power network control requires a more advanced communication infrastructure than the existing SCADA system. In this paper, we present a conceptual communication infrastructure for regional control of power distribution networks in the context of an autonomous regional active network management system, and highlight the key communication system requirements. A case study of communication infrastructure supporting radial distribution network regional control is provided with the performance evaluation. Our study shows that TCP/IP based communication would need to be introduced into the communication infrastructure design to support regional network management system.","PeriodicalId":217373,"journal":{"name":"2009 7th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127729976","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this article we describe a compositional model-driven approach for auto-generating embedded code for improving the energy efficiency of building automation applications. We show how we can use a component-based hybrid-systems modelling framework to generate models for simulation and verification. Then, we auto-generate embeddable code from these models. We empirically demonstrate this approach using the hybrid-systems tool Charon, for the domain of energy-efficient lighting control for smart buildings. Those will not only communicate using IP (as in TCP/IP), but also feature some autonomy, allowing them to collaborate among themselves and with enterprise systems. As they can offer both their mechatronic and higher-level functions as a service and support dynamic deployment of new code, they can execute business logic locally, allowing for new classes of business processes that are executed collaboratively by back-end and embedded systems. While some parts of a process will still be executed in the data centre, the rest will execute directly on embedded devices on the shop-floor. Business Process execution will therefore be more dynamic and context-based.We introduce an approach to manage efficient business process execution over such highly dynamic infrastructures.","PeriodicalId":217373,"journal":{"name":"2009 7th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"128 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124227092","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To handle automatic reconfigurations of the whole system, we define an agent-based architecture such that the agent checks and interprets the environment evolution before creates, updates or deletes Function Blocks according to well-defined conditions. It is composed of three modules: the interpreter that interprets the environment evolution, the engine that decides new reconfigurations according to such evolution and the converter that applies agent decisions. A Benchmark Production System is used to explain our contribution, and technical solutions are proposed to implement its different agent modules.","PeriodicalId":217373,"journal":{"name":"2009 7th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116817270","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Integration, reuse, flexibility and optimization are demanded to adapat to a rapidly changing and competitive market. In fact, standardization is a key goal to achieve these goals. The international standardization efforts have lead to the definition fo the IEC 61131 stnadard. Part 3 of this standard defines a software model for defining automation projects as well as 5 programming languages. Nowadays most of the Programmable Logic Controllers vendors follow this standard at different levels, although each programing tool adds vendor specific particularities. In order to achieve tool interoperability and thus, reusability of code, the international organization PLCopen has defined an open XML interface. This paper presents an approach that analyzes at what extent an automation project developed within a programming environment and exported using the PLCopen XML interface, is IEC 61131-3 compliant. The conformity analysis is performed at different levels: data types, programming languages and software architecture, and different grades of compliance are defined for each conformity level.","PeriodicalId":217373,"journal":{"name":"2009 7th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117029952","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is no guarantee that these functions will be executed in the order expected. This necessitates a close control over the capabilities of manufacturing system in order to make sure that the inputs are ready to be utilised on time.
