Utilization of a bag of covariance matrices as object descriptor improves the object recognition accuracy while speed up the learning process. We extend this technique, and present its hardware architecture, as well as object classifier based on on-line variant of random forest (RF) implemented using Logarithmic Number System (LNS). First, we describe the algorithmic and architecture of our model, comprises several computation modules. Then test and verified the model functionality using numerical simulation in the GRAZ02 dataset domain. It has been shown that the proposed system gained strong performance over floating-point and fixed-point precisions, even when only 10% of the training examples are used and is reasonably power efficient.","PeriodicalId":217373,"journal":{"name":"2009 7th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116866326","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In doing so it illustrates how the evolution of ever more powerful, yet affordable, microcontroller devices can support the provision of process management information. This is based upon the acquisition and analysis of machine related data near to the source. The key ability of such an embedded approach is shown to be the sharing of information, which in turn supports enhanced decision making. The communication of these decisions within the established system and via a supported architecture to the wider world is also presented.","PeriodicalId":217373,"journal":{"name":"2009 7th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116970003","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However due to the increased changes in energy sector, the energy optimization should be another key indicator for cross layer optimization. In order to achieve this optimization, energy has to be measured locally and almost in real time, while manufacturing control activities should also be aware of the energy consumed. Furthermore higher-residing decision support systems and enterprise services, will take also into consideration the overall energy consumption, for each process and optimize globally and locally. These goals are assisted with the increasing automation within the factories that can provide better visibility and efficiency of the shop floor.","PeriodicalId":217373,"journal":{"name":"2009 7th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115255226","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Until now, it only provides modeling elements for visualization of real time process data and the necessary communication relationships with data servers. In order to be accepted in practice, XVCML also needs modeling components for additional, user defined algorithms. This paper presents an approach to enhance XVCML with generic, algorithmic components to perform e.g. simple algebraic operations. For this purpose, Executable UML has been used and proven to be suitable. Therefore, Executable UML will be introduced and first experiences will be shown by an early prototype which realizes a typical scenario of industrial automation.","PeriodicalId":217373,"journal":{"name":"2009 7th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"231 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114383794","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently, in Salamanca, an Environmental Monitoring Network (EMN) is installed in which time series of criteria pollutants and meteorological variables are obtained. Unfortunately air pollution level is computed in each monitoring station without taking into account those meteorological variables. In this paper, we propose a novel methodology to compute air pollution levels taking the meteorological variables as a decision factor by means of data fusion and neural networks. First, in preprocessing stage two Feature Vectors (FVSO2 and FVPM10 ) are built for each monitoring station. Next, in data fusion stage, a Representative Feature Vector by pollutant (RFVSO2 and RFVPM10 ) is built with the maximum value of the three FVs. Finally, an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is trained with the RFV in order to classify future environmental situations. Self-Organizing Map (SOM) is the ANN applied. In this paper, time series of pollutant concentrations and meteorological variables are obtained from the EMN. EMN is composed for the three monitoring stations in Salamanca. Data used in this study have approved according to Proaire environmental authority standards.","PeriodicalId":217373,"journal":{"name":"2009 7th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130376454","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This approach follows in essence the MDA (Model Driven Architecture) philosophy with some specific characteristics. We propose a repository that keeps related information, such as models, applications, design information, generated artifacts and even information concerning the development process itself (e.g., generation steps, tests and integration milestones). Generically, this methodology receives the users' requirements to a new product (e.g., functional, non-functional, product specification) as its main inputs and produces a set of artifacts (e.g., design parts, process validation output) as its main output, that will be integrated in the engineer design tool (e.g. CAD system) facilitating the work.","PeriodicalId":217373,"journal":{"name":"2009 7th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"272 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115964550","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
