While homogenous agent systems like factories can be controlled by the company, this does not apply for supply webs. They show a swarm-like emergent behavior, which follows rules not fully controllable. This paper covers three stages necessary to achieve a visual management of such a complex system: (1) multi-multiagent system (MMAS) technology is used for inter-company communication and integration. (2) Decentralized object-oriented processes and semantic models are introduced on top to dynamically adapt system behavior but still maintain control. (3) Model-based interaction concepts are applied for integration of users into an MMAS-based supply web as well as for interaction with the processes executed and interactive control.","PeriodicalId":217373,"journal":{"name":"2009 7th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115124414","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is comprised of video sensor, digital signal processing unit and digital radio interface. In this paper we have surveyed existing WMSN hardware and communication protocol layer technologies for achieving or fulfilling the objectives of WMSN. We have also listed the various technical challenges posed by this technology while discussing the communication protocol layer technologies. Sensor networking capabilities are urgently required for some of our most important scientific and societal problems like understanding the international carbon budget, monitoring water resources, monitoring vehicle emissions and safeguarding public health. This is a daunting research challenge requiring distributed sensor systems operating in complex environments while providing assurance of reliable and accurate sensing.","PeriodicalId":217373,"journal":{"name":"2009 7th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117255659","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study develops a scenario to analyse coal consumption and make future projections based on particle swarm optimisation (PSO) and genetic algorithm (GA) methods. The models developed in two forms (exponential and linear) and applied to the coal demand of Iran. PSO and GA demand estimation models (PSO-DEM and GA-DEM) are developed to estimate the future coal demand values based on population, gross domestic product (GDP), import and export figures. Coal consumption in Iran from 1981 to 2005 is considered as the case of this study. The available data is partly used for finding the optimal, or near optimal, values of the weighting parameters (1981–1999) and partly for testing the models (2000–2005). For the best results of GA, relative error averages were 2.121% and 10.647% for GA — DEMexponential and GA — DEMlinear and were 1.921% for 3.885% for PSO — DEMexponential and PSO — DEMlinear. Coal demand is forecasted up to year 2030.","PeriodicalId":217373,"journal":{"name":"2009 7th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129858992","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Especially, the modernization of plants depends on an unambiguous and reliable documentation. Furthermore, the well-defined specification of plant behavior enables the engineer to verify the control software with a model-checking tool. In order to be able to provide the description correctly and without misunderstandings, it should be done formally. Temporal logics, like the Computation Tree Logic, offer an ideal solution for this purpose. However, they are based on a complex theory. In order to use them anyway in practice, the formal expressions have to be developed by automated procedures out of an intuitively understandable description. This contribution proposes a text-block based method, which enables the user to create such a formal specification by the use of a Safety-Oriented Technical Language.","PeriodicalId":217373,"journal":{"name":"2009 7th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"136 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128740126","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thermodynamic analyses lead to converter's efficiency and limiting power. While optimization of steady systems requires using of differential calculus or Lagrange multipliers, dynamic optimization involves variational calculus and dynamic programming. The primary result of static optimization is the limiting value of power, whereas that of the dynamic optimization is a finite-rate work which generalizes the classical exergy. The generalizing quantity depends on thermal coordinates and a dissipation index, h, i.e. the Hamiltonian of the problem of minimum entropy production. It implies stronger bounds on work delivered or supplied than the reversible work. In reacting systems the chemical affinity constitutes a prevailing counterpart of the thermal efficiency.","PeriodicalId":217373,"journal":{"name":"2009 7th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130090195","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, ultimate tensile strength is the force a material can resist until it breaks. The only way to examine this mechanical property is the employment of destructive inspections that renders the casting invalid with the subsequent cost increment. In a previous work we showed that modelling the foundry process as a probabilistic constellation of interrelated variables allows Bayesian networks to infer causal relationships. In other words, they may guess the value of a variable (for instance, the value of ultimate tensile strength). Against this background, we present here the first ultimate tensile strength prediction system that, upon the basis of a Bayesian network, is able to foresee the values of this property in order to correct it before the casting is made. Further, we have tested the accuracy and error rate of the system with data of a real foundry.","PeriodicalId":217373,"journal":{"name":"2009 7th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126747766","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
