There is evidence that semantic memory for music can be relatively spared in DS, which has been studied as a possible use of music to recognize the neuroanatomic distribution of the disease and other aspects of musical communicability in DS. We report the case of a patient aged 57 years, with DS diagnosis, who was submitted to neurological music therapy techniques in speech and language. The Dual Scale consists in a pitch set constructed upon a diatonic logic. Its employment results in a remarkable modal ambiguity. Its application can be verified in tonal works from the baroque through the romantic, in contexts in which its expressiveness features semiotic elements like duality, ambiguity or paradox.
