The cross section is an important factor to carry lightning currents in LPS. However, it is possible to connect these conductors in various ways. Among the different methods used in meshed network, aluminothermic welds are relevant. This process has the advantage to be corrosion proof to have good electric characteristics compared to others methods, with good mechanic holding performances. Sometimes, this method modifies the conductivity of the conductors. This is the reason for which we perfect a method to verify whether the weld changed the material or not.","PeriodicalId":216871,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Symposium on Lightning Protection (XII SIPDA)","volume":"68 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132124612","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After a recent upgrade of LLS central processor in Minas Gerais State, a performance analysis was done. The authors analyzed the improvements on location accuracy and peak current estimate of the LLS central processor. In order to perform it, two different reprocessing were done using the same database of sensor reports. So a comparison between lightning location data obtained by using of two different central processors is presented. However, these structures are often at risk of being struck by lightning. Hence, it is necessary to clarify the current distribution of CFRPs in order to research the generation mechanisms of breakdowns and malfunctions of electronic system near the CFRP due to a lightning stroke. In this study, current distribution characteristic of a CFRP panel is clarified by experimental and analytical investigations. The current distribution measurements and simulations for a CFRP panel are compared with those for a same-sized aluminum panel. The knowledge of these current distribution characteristics would be very useful for designing the CFRP structures of aircrafts, automobiles, wind turbines, rockets, etc. in the future.","PeriodicalId":216871,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Symposium on Lightning Protection (XII SIPDA)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116101030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The result shows that the grounding resistance of surge arresters installed on a pole with a pole transformer can be increased to some extent without decreasing the lightning protection level of the low-voltage equipment by the installation of an overhead ground wire and the shortening of the interval between concrete poles with surge arresters. A reduction in the cost of grounding construction can be expected.","PeriodicalId":216871,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Symposium on Lightning Protection (XII SIPDA)","volume":"78 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123176669","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Few countries in the world have their own lightning detection networks which allow monitoring the lightning activity inside their national borders. The World Wide Lightning Location Network (WWLLN) provides global lightning data, which was already used to characterize the lightning activity in several regions of the world. The aim of the present work is the use of the lightning data obtained by the WWLLN to make an analysis on the lightning activity over Argentina between the years 2005-2012. These data are used to estimate the annual death rate by lightning in the region. The estimation is based on a model proposed by Chandima Gomes, and Ab Kadir [1]. The obtained results could help to promote protective behaviors in the population.","PeriodicalId":216871,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Symposium on Lightning Protection (XII SIPDA)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121830030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first model is based on the direct measurement of the transformer's impedance matrix, while the second model consists in a combination of the admittance matrix and voltage transfer measurements. Both are alternatives to obtain a model with more information on the transformer's behavior at frequencies ranging from 10 Hz to 2 MHz. The admittance matrix resulting from the inversion of the measured impedance matrix (in the first model) and the modified admittance matrix (in the second model) are approximated by rational functions via the vector fitting technique, which leads to two equivalent RLC models that are stable and ready to be used in EMTP-like programs. The obtained models are first compared in the frequency domain with measurements carried out at the transformer terminals. Then, in order to validate the developed models in the time domain, comparisons between the theoretical and measured results of the transferred voltages from the primary to the secondary windings of the transformer are made. These comparisons consider distinct load conditions and the application of impulse waves with different time characteristics.","PeriodicalId":216871,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Symposium on Lightning Protection (XII SIPDA)","volume":"207 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122433055","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
