This study proposes an ensemble of image feature representations, including various local patch- or block-based representations, a one-dimensional vector image representation, a two-dimensional matrix image representation, and a global matrix image representation. For each feature representation, a regression function is constructed to synthesize a high-resolution image from the low-resolution input image. The synthesis process is conducted in a layer-by-layer fashion, where each layer composes several regression functions. The output from one layer is then served as the input to the following layer. The experimental results show that the proposed framework is capable of synthesizing high-resolution images from low-resolution input images with a wide variety of facial poses, geometry misalignments and facial expressions even when such images are not included within the original training dataset.","PeriodicalId":216293,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127503364","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The SSM-AP updating rule is governed by a vector parameter, called the Constraint Vector (CV). Currently, there are two main choices for the CV: one leads to faster convergence, whereas the other yields lower MSE and complexity. This paper proposes an alternative to those choices, which can improve both convergence speed and steady-state MSE of the SSM-AP algorithm with a given CV, while also decreasing the overall number of updates.","PeriodicalId":216293,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127525859","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We address the robustness issues of PTT extraction, since the pulsatile signals are subject to distortions due to sensor errors or subject movements. A cepstrum analysis method is proposed to estimate the pulse rate from each modality, and then a signal quality assessment is conducted by verifying the conformance of the pulse rate with the pulse time for a single modality as well as across multiple modalities. Erroneous peaks in the distorted pulsatile signal can be rejected by the quality screening step. Experiments were conducted using PhysioNet database MIMIC-II comprising ECG, PPG and Arterial Blood Pressure (ABP) signals, and the results demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method and furthermore provided insights to the MIMIC-II database.","PeriodicalId":216293,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127535969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, accurate analysis systems for patient outcome prediction are needed. In this paper, an extreme learning machine (ELM) ensemble based prognosis system is presented for predicting mortality with heart rate variability (HRV) and clinical vital signs. A segment method is implemented to calculate several sets of HRV measures from non-overlapped electrocardiogram segments for each patient and a decision is made through the ELM ensemble.","PeriodicalId":216293,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115337605","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To detect detailed information of each changed building, the roof points and corresponding roof segments in laser scanning data are obtained by a multi-entity based classification method and a connected component analysis with defined rules based on prior knowledge. Then the alpha-shapes algorithm is performed to detect the edges of the roof. Finally, the proposed change detection method is used to detect changes between buildings in laser scanning data and GIS data. Experiment results suggest that both qualitative and quantitative analysis of changes can be obtained by this method, and the overall correctness of change detection achieves to 95%. Moreover, compared with most change detection methods which detect changes as demolished or newly built building, the method in this article can detect much more specific changes, the changed edges, for partly changed buildings.","PeriodicalId":216293,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"157 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115995938","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We introduce a LUT-compression technique that reduces LUT size to 1% of what would otherwise be needed to store the full data access patterns for all LTE block sizes. By reusing the already existing program memory of a baseband processor to store LUTs and using our proposed general address generator, our 8-way data access path can reach the same throughput as a dedicated 8-way interleaving ASIC implementation. This avoids the addition of a dedicated interleaving address generator to a processor which, according to ASIC synthesis, would be 75% larger than our proposed address generator. Since our software implementation only involves the address generator, the processor's datapaths are free to perform the other operations of Turbo decoding in parallel with interleaving. Our software implementation ensure programmability and flexibility and is the fastest software-based implementation of QPP interleaving known to us.","PeriodicalId":216293,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116074919","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Early prediction of stroke patients' functional outcomes is helpful for treatments. However, current diagnosis machines, such as computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), are expensive, not portable, and may cause side effects. Additionally, current diagnosis scales, such as National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), should be evaluated by professional medical staff, and thus cannot be conducted continuously. In this paper, we propose a multi-modal analysis methodology to predict a stroke patient's functional outcome based on physiological signals, including EKG, ABP, and PPG. By applying the multi-modal framework to analyze the stroke patients' physiological signals in intensive care unit (ICU), we find that the accuracy of stroke outcome predictions achieves 82.7%, which performs better than a single-modal built by any single phase. In addition, the joint EKG-ABP-PPG analysis achieves performance comparable to NIHSS, implying that the multi-modal analysis framework has potential for predicting functional outcomes of stroke.","PeriodicalId":216293,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116611883","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While the efficient pipelining of multiplications is well understood, no attention has been paid on the pipelining of structural adders so far. The delay of structural adders becomes crucial in high speed designs as they have the largest word size in non-truncated FIR filters and typically lie in the critical path. The common pipelining method results in an excessive overhead in registers when applied to the structural adders as many additional paths have to be delayed. An efficient method for pipelining structural adders using a partially redundant number representation is proposed in this paper. With a very little area overhead of 5.4%, the throughput of the structural adders can be doubled while a speedup factor of up to 7 can be achieved with an area overhead of 26.7%.","PeriodicalId":216293,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"112 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116827585","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Blind timing skew estimation (TSE) is one of its key techniques for implementing online timing skew mismatch compensation digitally. Assuming the input signal of the TIADC is of spectral sparsity, in this paper, an efficient blind TSE algorithm is developed by employing the all phase Fast Fourier Transform (ApFFT) technique to obtain the accurate phase spectral estimation, which results in the ApFFT-SS-BLTSE algorithm. Experimental results show that, compared to the SS-BLTSE algorithm in [1], the proposed ApFFT-SS-BLTSE algorithm requires less computational cost and is able to offer high TSE accuracy for both narrow and wideband source signals in the presence of additive noise.","PeriodicalId":216293,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128450442","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
