The incidence of the disease increases with age, so the prevalence in people older than 75 years is greater than 10%. Due to the different clinical presentation, the pharmacological approach to the patient is individual, and most patients are treated on an outpatient basis, according to the guidelines taken from the recommendations of professional associations. Hospitalization is necessary in severe forms of CHF or acute exacerbations. Patients with severe hemodynamic disturbances due to acute CHF require treatment in intensive care units, due to specific cardiovascular therapy, respiratory support and vital functions monitoring. Individualized, stepwise and rational pharmacological therapy achieves significant symptomatic and functional improvement in most patients.","PeriodicalId":21582,"journal":{"name":"Serbian Journal of Experimental and Clinical Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48773978","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many studies indicated that molecular structure of chalcone accountable for their anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant effects. The aim of our research was to investigate anti-tumor effect and mechanism of action of three synthesized chalcone analogues on HeLa cells. The anti-tumor effectiveness of chalcone analogues was compared to effects of the dehydrozingerone and cisplatin that were used as referent substances. The viability of the treated cells was evaluated using MTT assay. Evaluation of cell death was determined by flow cytometry and cells were stained with Annexin V-FITC/7-AAD. The result of our research indicated that used chalcones have stronger antitumor effect relative to the dehydrozingerone and cisplatin. The IC50 values of the chalcones ranged between 1.69-6.18 μM, with CH1 being more cytotoxic after 24 h of treatment, while CH3 being more cytotoxic after 48 h of treatment on HeLa cells. All investigated chalcones induced apoptosis in HeLa cells via mitochondrial pathway, which was detected expression Bax and Bcl- 2 proteins. Our results provided evidence that chalcones induced apoptosis in HeLa cervical carcinoma through the intrinsic apoptotic pathway. These findings provide insights into the molecular mechanism of chalcones-induced cell death.","PeriodicalId":21582,"journal":{"name":"Serbian Journal of Experimental and Clinical Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45297993","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of our study was to examine the cytotoxicity of the Pd(II) complexes (C1-C5) and the corresponding ligands (L1-L5) on the DU-145 prostate cancer cell line. Also, due to its clinical application, the cytotoxicity of cisplatin has been examined. Our findings showed that C1- C5 complexes and cisplatin show dose-dependent and strong cytotoxic effects against the DU-145 cell line in vitro. Furthermore, the results demonstrated that early apoptosis was induced by all five Pd(II) complexes. Also, the results showed that complexes C1, C3, and C5 induced G0/G1 phase arrest on DU- 145 cells. Pd(II) complex C2 induced S phase arrest, while C4 complex induced G2/M phase arrest on cancer cells. Additionally, all tested complexes significantly reduced the amount of antiapoptotic protein Bcl-2. Also, there was a significant increase in the concentration of proapoptotic Bax protein in DU-145 cells treated C1-C5 complexes. The results of our research demonstrated that Pd(II) complexes induced apoptosis via the mitochondrial pathway. Thus, it is crucial to further investigate the cytotoxicity of these Pd(II) complexes in vivo. The shape and dimension depend of the topography of the extraction socket, the geometry of residual root and anatomy of molars alveoli. The clinical implications of this anatomic structure may be used in oral surgery resection procedures, periodontology and implantology. There is an opinion from the surgical and prosthodontic side that center of interradicular septum may be adequate place for immediate implantation. The aim of this study was to investigate morphological characteristics and clinical implications of upper molars interradicular septum. The studies showed that interradicular septum is important for success of resection surgery procedures: hemi-section, bisection and root amputation. It’s reported that furcation involvement in periodontal disease is clinical sign for severe bone loss. By reviewing the available literature for immediate implantation, it’s reported the clinical implications for diagnostical plan (pre-intervention), presurgical (pre-instrumentation) and intraoperative evaluation of interradicular septum for immediate implantation. The cone beam computed tomography analyze study presented mean values of septum height and wide for hypothetical plan of immediate implant placement. The presurgical studies evaluate how to assure preservation of septum and safe implant position in center of septum. The research showed varies therapy modalities that can be used, and how to choose right therapy according the socket type and initial septum width classification. According to observation of studies results, other researches should be considered for CBCT anatomical structure analyze and measures of interradicular septum for immediate implantation planning.","PeriodicalId":21582,"journal":{"name":"Serbian Journal of Experimental and Clinical Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47269702","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The pathogenesis of this disease is still insufficiently clarified, and the course of the disease is unpredictable. It happens that severe relapses do not respond to drug therapy and in such cases it is recommended therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE). We present a young man with severe motor relapse, weakness of the left leg, pronounced tremor of the right arm, unstable gait and bilaterally reduction of vision. Brain magnetic resonance imaging showed a large number of chronic demyelinating lesions of the white mass, numerous were merged, with signs of brain reduction. The patient underwent five cycles of TPE, which were conducted every other day. Although TPE led to a disturbance of the hemostasis status and some biochemical parameters, the patient’s response to the applied therapy was good. The improvement of the patient’s condition was reflected through the return of vision and a moderate reduction in neurological deficit. Despite the fact that therapeutic plasma exchange can cause some complications, it should be considered when drug therapy does not lead to improvement in these patients.","PeriodicalId":21582,"journal":{"name":"Serbian Journal of Experimental and Clinical Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48924140","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main limitations of conventional anti-cancer therapy, including breast cancer treatment, are side effects and the development of resistance to chemotherapeutics. Host defense peptides (HDPs) are bioactive compounds of innate immunity isolated from almost all living organisms, which exhibit wide range of biological activities. This review focuses on the anti-cancer effects of HDPs and their therapeutic potential against breast cancer. Numerous HDPs from different sources, including mammalian and amphibian origin, and their chemically modified analogues, exert the spectrum of anti-cancer activities. These effects include direct disruption of cancer cell membrane, induction of apoptosis, inhibition of angiogenesis and cancer cell proliferation, but also the modulation of anti-cancer immune response. Selected examples of HDPs of different origin and their anti-breast cancer capacities have been reviewed. Conclusively, due to their anti-cancer effects accompanied by substantial selectivity for cancer cells and low toxicity for normal cells, HDPs have been widely recognized as possible therapeutic agents.","PeriodicalId":21582,"journal":{"name":"Serbian Journal of Experimental and Clinical Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47362648","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
