Based on histologic features World Health Organization (WHO) classifies into benign, border line and malignant tumors (the rarest). Only around 5-15% of all malignant form cases metastasize hematogeneosly in the lung, bone and brain. Clinically are mostly presented the phyllodes tumor mostly presents as a rapid growth, palpabile, painless, elastic, oval or lobulated masses over 5 cm among women between 40 to 50 years old. On ultrasound and mammography these tumors usually resembles other round or oval benign lesions, mostly like fibroadenomas. These tumors on ultrasound and mammography usually resembles other round or oval benign tumors, mostly like fibroadenomas. Ultrasound guided core needle biopsiy (CNB) performed under ultrasound is a gold standard for palpabile breast masses. Surgical resection remains the gold standard of treatment. To date, there is no consensus regarding the recommendations for radiotherapy, hormonal therapy and systemic chemotherapy. We present the case of 30 years old woman, who noted a painless mass in her left breast, which was gradually increasing in size. Clinical, ultrasound and magnetic resonance examination confirmed the existence of tumor formation without the possibility of making an accurate diagnosis. Malignant phyllodes tumor was initially diagnosed by core biopsy. The patient underwent a radical modified mastectomy and postoperative radiotherapy. During the follow-up for the first 11 months, our patient has been feeling well without signs of local recurrence and metastasis. The aim of our case is to emphasize the importance of early diagnosis and treatment of this rare breast tumor. Treatment is based on the size and the extent of the mass with surgical resection and adequate margins extremely important in successful outcome. We present the case of 30 old woman, who noted a painless mass in her left breast, which was gradually increasing in size. She was diagnosed with ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging and the diagnosis of the malignant phyllodes tumor was confirmed by patohistological verification.","PeriodicalId":21582,"journal":{"name":"Serbian Journal of Experimental and Clinical Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41599114","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study at examining the influence of social support on depression among elderly people in Serbia. The research was done according to the type of cross-sectional study, a mass survey of a random, representative stratified two-stage sample of the population of Serbia in 2013, which was conducted by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia. The target population consisted of 3540 respondents aged 65 and over. The Patient Health Questionnaire-8 (PHQ-8) was used to evaluate the presence of depressive symptoms and the social support score from the questionnaire Oslo-3 scale of social support. The relations between depression symptoms and social support were examined with univariate logistic regression analyses. In the univariate regression model, social support stood out as a strong predictor of depression. People with weak social support are three and a half times more likely (OR = 3.45) to have depression compared to those with strong social support. Men with small social support were more likely to have depression (OR = 5.08) than women (OR = 3.41). These results indicate the urgency of addressing depression as a public health priority to reduce the burden and disability and improve the overall health of the elderly population.","PeriodicalId":21582,"journal":{"name":"Serbian Journal of Experimental and Clinical Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47690720","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A major issue in clinical evaluation is the attribution of neuropsychiatric symptoms to systemic lupus erithematosus. Antiphospholipid antibodies, immune complex, microangiopathy, early and accelerated arteriosclerosis are factors that have the main role in pathogenesis of neuropsychiatric manifestations of systemic lupus erithematosus. There are no neurological symptoms specific to systemic lupus erithematosus, but they can also occur very commonly in the general population. Lesions of nervous system can be focal or diffuse and may be due to systemic lupus erithematosus itself (primary lesions), but it also may be caused by other diseases or disbalances. Therapy of the neuropsychiatric manifestations depends on the nature of the pathological process (dominant inflammation or thrombosis). If it is result of an inflammatory neurotoxic process and in the presence of an increased activity of systemic lupus erithematosus, therapy includes glycocorticoids independently or in combination with immunosuppressives. Focal neuropsychiatric syndrome with antiphospholipid antibodies positivity should be treated with anticoagulant and/or antiplatelet therapy. In addition, control of classical cardiovascular risk factors, stop smoking, and treatment with hydroxychloroquine is recommended.","PeriodicalId":21582,"journal":{"name":"Serbian Journal of Experimental and Clinical Research","volume":"23 1","pages":"361 - 367"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45763906","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is still unclear whether patients with atrial fibrillation have the same benefit from ICD implantation as patients in sinus rhythm. This is a clinical, prospective study which included 210 patients in the period 2014-2018. ICD was implanted in the Clinical Center Kragujevac and a two-year follow-up was performed. Patients were divided into 2 groups: a group in sinus rhythm and a group of patients with atrial fibrillation (paroxysmal, persistent and permanent). At the end of the two-year follow-up, there was no difference in survival between the compared groups. The total number of cardioverter defibrillator activations did not differ between the groups, but a significantly higher number of inappropriate cardioverter defibrillator activations was registered in the group with atrial fibrillation. In most patients who had inappropriate defibrillator activation during the two-year follow-up, appropriate defibrillator activation was also registered.","PeriodicalId":21582,"journal":{"name":"Serbian Journal of Experimental and Clinical Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43810673","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is characterized by craniostenosis with very early fusion of the skull and / or cranial base sutures, facial hypoplasia, symmetrical syndactyly of the fingers and toes and other systemic malformations. Multiple CNS abnormalities are common, but simultaneous occurrence of Apert syndrome and agenesis of corpus callosum is estimated about 10%. We present a male patient born after first, normal and controlled pregnancy and term, naturally birth, in which the Apert syndrome was diagnosed, based on the clinical presentation of the skull and face and syndactyly of fingers and toes. Neurological examination established generalized hypotonia and aggravated provocation of the primitive reflexes. Neurosonography showed complete agenesis of the corpus callosum, which makes this case a rare form of this syndrome. The head X-rays showed turricephalic skull shape and suture’s synostoses, which is demonstrated in more detail at computed tomography finding. The hands and feet X-rays showed bone synostosis of fingers and toes. The video-electroencephalogram recorded intermittent depression of electrocortical activity. There was conducted the multidisciplinary examination in order to examine the possibility of reconstructive and plastic surgical correction of the anomalies. The neurodevelopmental disorders in patients with Apert syndrome can be manifested by a variety of congenital malformations, but considering its rare occurrence, the significance of these abnormalities remains unknown.","PeriodicalId":21582,"journal":{"name":"Serbian Journal of Experimental and Clinical Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49094182","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A special group of inherited and acquired coagulation disorders associated with a susceptibility to thrombosis is thrombophilia. Physiological changes during the pregnancy also contribute to the occurrence thromboembolic diseases (VTE) in pregnancy. Total rate of venous thromboembolism is 100 per 100,000 pregnancies and 200 per 100,000 births. Etiopathogenesis of obstetric complications in thrombophilia is not clearly defined, which is one of the reasons for the occasional failure of therapy. In pregnancies with hereditary thrombophilia the oxidative stress is considered to be a cause of complications, similar to preeclampsia. Based on the findings so far, additional research should clarify questions regarding the anticoagulants role in pregnancy loss prevention. In this paper, we analyze the effect of the screening on pregnancy outcomes, consider the justification for the use of anticoagulation therapy in difficult situations, discuss about previous knowledge in the field and argue the use of new specific protocols. In short, we address the justification for prescribing anticoagulants and evaluation of their effect within thrombophilia therapeutic strategies.","PeriodicalId":21582,"journal":{"name":"Serbian Journal of Experimental and Clinical Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46657761","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our review aims to sublimate the effects of galectin 3 on the β-cells function and survival. Data about the effect of galectin 3 on β- cells are scarce and contradictory. Several studies have shown that reduced activity of the galectin 3 gene reduces the risk of developing type 1 diabetes in an experimental model of diabetes in galectin 3 deficient mice. On the other side, in an experimental model of type 1 diabetes with mice with selectively enhanced expression of galectin 3 in β-cells, was shown that increased expression of this lectin has a protective role. Unlike type 1 diabetes where the autoimmune process plays a dominant role in pathogenesis, the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes is multifactorial. One of the main factors which contribute to type 2 diabetes, the insulin resistance, is related to the concentration of soluble galectin 3. The effect of galectin 3 is very important for β-cell function. When a harmful factor acts on a β-cell, its intracellular concentration increases to preserve the function of β-cells and prevent their apoptosis, by blocking the internal path of apoptosis. However, excessive accumulation of galectin 3 inside the cell leads to its secretion, which encourages tissue inflammation. Based on all the above, galectin 3 has a double effect on β-cells.","PeriodicalId":21582,"journal":{"name":"Serbian Journal of Experimental and Clinical Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42079050","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Today, this disease is very rare, due to systemic active immunization. The aim of this study was to assess the level of knowledge and attitudes toward poliomyelitis and importance of immunization against it. A specially designed survey questionnaire was used for interviewing purposes. Data analysis and processing were performed using a statistical data processing package (SPSS for Windows, version 20). A chi-square test was used from the statistical tests. The educated profile of the respondents was as follows: medical sciences - 37 (50%), natural sciences and mathematics - 6 (8,1%), social sciences - 5 (6,8%), technical sciences - 19 (25,7%) and arts - 7 (9,5%). The study findings indicate a high level of awareness and knowledge of the population regarding polio, as well as good health awareness of the population about immunization i.e. polio vaccination. 34 respondents from the field of medical education answered the question exactly how the vaccine protects against the disease. In the field of natural mathematical sciences, a total of 3 gave the correct answer, which makes 50% of the total number of persons (6) in the mentioned field. In addition, majority of the study sample (70,3%) is aware that child should be vaccinated. Furthermore, 91,9% of respondents agree that education of parents regarding children vaccination is of great importance for whole community. Based on findings of present study it can be concluded that efforts still need to be made in education of the wider population toward polio and the importance of vaccination. In addition to healthcare professionals, the entire community should participate in this strategic task.","PeriodicalId":21582,"journal":{"name":"Serbian Journal of Experimental and Clinical Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48851812","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
