Kidney involvement of TS usually includes angiomyolipomas, cysts, rarely kidney tumors, but there is not much description of other kidney involvement (proteinuria, hematuria, advanced kidney failure). We present a patient with preterminal renal failure who is diagnosed with tuberous sclerosis. Case report: A 52-year-old female was admitted to the hospital, due to decreased kidney function with worsening of the general condition and crises of consciousness. During the examination, cutaneous lesions -facial angiofibrolipomas were noticed, the patient was dehydrated and pale. Laboratory analyzes showed elevated parameters of nonspecific inflammation, anemic syndrome, azotemia (Cr 578umol / l, urea 50.1mmol / l, CKD e GFR 10 ml / min / 73m2), leukocyturia, microerythrocyturia, proteinuria 1.5 g / 24h. MSCT of the abdomen indicated hemangiomas of the liver, enlarged kidneys with several hypodense and hyperdense changes - angiomyolipomas. Due to the crisis of consciousness, MSCT of the head was performed, on which cysts and calcifications of the brain were observed. During the treatment, there was a confusing state, agitation, and epilepsy seizure. MRI brain showed multi locular brain cysts with ependymal and subependymal calcified nodules in the lateral ventricles. The applied treatment resulted in a partial recovery of kidney function (CKDeGFR 17 mil / min / 1.73 m2, and further approach in the monitoring and treatment of this patient was multidisciplinary. Chronic renal failure of 4 stages was maintained for a further six-month follow-up. Conclusion: We underline the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in the treatment of patients, bearing in mind that, as in our patient, a rare genetic disease - tuberous sclerosis can be manifested by kidney failure of preterminal rank.","PeriodicalId":21582,"journal":{"name":"Serbian Journal of Experimental and Clinical Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49619873","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite their high prevalence and knowledge of many etiological factors, the exact mechanism of disease is still not fully understood. There are three different clinical forms of recurrent aphthous stomatitis and the therapy differs depending on it. The aim of this article is to provide an overview of current knowledge about the possible causes and treatment of recurrent aphthous stomatitis. We discuss its pathogenesis which is currently the least explained in the literature. This review offers scientists and clinicians useful information about clinical presentation, diagnosis, predisposing aetiological factors and recent trends in the management of recurrent aphthous stomatitis.","PeriodicalId":21582,"journal":{"name":"Serbian Journal of Experimental and Clinical Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48835951","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The presence of a previous uterine scar is the most significant risk factor. Early clinical diagnosis is paramount to maternal and fetal survival. Case Report: A 36- year-old woman, gravida 2 para 2, presented with sudden acute abdominal pain at 38 weeks of gestation. The patient had a history of cesarean delivery one year ago. Ultrasound scans showed an empty endometrial cavity and fetus outside the uterus. Emergency laparotomy was performed, a live baby boy weighing 3.420 kg was delivered, and the uterine disruption was repaired. Conclusion: Increasing trends in the cesarean section may lead to a higher number of uterine ruptures. The survival of patients after uterine rupture depends on the time interval between rupture and intervention, and the availability of appropriate medical team and equipment. Health professionals caring for pregnant women should be alert for the symptoms and risk factors of uterine rupture.","PeriodicalId":21582,"journal":{"name":"Serbian Journal of Experimental and Clinical Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45577059","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Patients and methods: 56 patients were enrolled in case-control study divided into 2 groups consistent by the main clinical criteria. 28 patients in the study group had fissure excision in combination with 10 IU botulinum toxin type A (Xeomin) injection into internal anal sphincter, while 28 patients in control group received 40 IU product injections. Results: No statistically significant results in the pain assessment during the day and after bowel movement were obtained (p=0.41 and p=0.93, respectively). The groups were comparable by the frequency of complications such as transient anal incontinence, perianal skin hematoma, acute urinary retention (p>0.05). Complications such as thrombosis of external hemorrhoids and chronic non-healing wounds were most common in the study group (p=0.43 and p=0.0005, respectively). The product dose increase to 40 IU has a more significant effect on the functional treatment results (p=0.0053 and p=0.0002, respectively) and increases the odds for postoperative wound epithelialization 15-fold (p=0.01). Conclusion: 40 IU Botulinum toxin type A shows improvement in the treatment of chronic anal fissure without any increased risk of postoperative complications.","PeriodicalId":21582,"journal":{"name":"Serbian Journal of Experimental and Clinical Research","volume":"23 1","pages":"13 - 28"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45549336","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Case report: Patient, 39 years old, was admitted to the Emergency Department because of abdominal pain. Abdominal pain started 5 days before the admission. The diagnostic research in his hospital showed presence of a stone in the right kidney, and the patient was transported to the other Clinical Centre, where a common urine test showed: high values of delta - aminolevulinic acid and porphobilinogen. The patient was transported to our Clinical Centre. At the admission, abdominal pain decreased, but the patient had a hypertensive crisis with a headache, tearing eyes, swelling, anxiety.Common laboratory tests were in reference range, except creatinine, CRP, arterial blood gas analysis, urine test. The hypertensive crisis was treated by beta blockers and diuretics in maximal doses, but without a positive effect, so we decided to try with Glyceryl trinitrate intravenously. Control blood pressure was 170/100mmHg….130/80mmHg. Discussion: Porphyria can be a diagnostic problem, because one of the manifestations can be abdominal pain. Conclusions: Comorbidities can be critical in the therapy of life threating conditions.","PeriodicalId":21582,"journal":{"name":"Serbian Journal of Experimental and Clinical Research","volume":"23 1","pages":"89 - 91"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44030739","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pregnancy is a state of increased oxidative stress that has been reported to be exacerbated when complicated with preeclampsia. However, conflicting data are available in literature regarding the systemic oxidative stress in PE pregnancies. The present pilot study was purported to assess systemic oxidative stress in preeclamptic vs healthy pregnancies. To this aim plasma derived compounds of reactive oxygen metabolites (d-ROMs) and the biological antioxidant potential (BAP) were determined in mild and severe preeclamptic pregnancies using the Diacron equipment. Both healthy and preeclamptic pregnancies showed high levels of systemic oxidative stress. Paradoxically, significantly higher values of d-ROMs were found in healthy pregnancies as compared to the PE ones. At variance, in preeclamptic pregnancies, a major increase in the plasma antioxidant capacity occurred. In this pilot study, we report an increase in the systemic antioxidant capacity in preeclamptic pregnancies.","PeriodicalId":21582,"journal":{"name":"Serbian Journal of Experimental and Clinical Research","volume":"23 1","pages":"45 - 50"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44882727","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cataract surgery is the most commonly performed surgical procedure worldwide. One of the most common postoperative complication of successfully performed cataract surgery is a development of posterior capsule opacification (PCO). In the postoperative period, lens epithelial cells (LECs) undergo proliferation, migration and differentiation, which is clinically manifested by the development of PCO. Inflammation has a central role in these processes. Cytokines, such as transforming growth factor β, fibroblast growth factor, interleukin 1, interleukin 6, matrix metalloproteinases have a huge effect on the activity of LECs. Understanding these processes can find a great usage in clinical practice. By prescribing anti-inflammatory therapy in the early postoperative period, the incidence of PCO can be significantly reduced.","PeriodicalId":21582,"journal":{"name":"Serbian Journal of Experimental and Clinical Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47937366","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The frequency of complications during orthodontic movement of the upper incisors refers to a more detailed evaluation of the anatomical structures of the premaxilla. The aim of this study was to investigate morphological and morphometric characteristics of the anterior maxilla by cone beam computed tomography, which could be of interest for planning orthodontic teeth movement. By reviewing the available literature, we compared the values of the alveolar bone height, the distance between the alveolar crest and enamel – cement boundary, total alveolar bone width, the thickness of the buccal, and palatal plate, nasopalatine canal, and accessory canals of the anterior maxilla. The results of our study show changes in the labial and palatal aspects of the alveolar bone height during orthodontic interventions. Different results of the alveolar bone width are in correlation with gender, age, and type of orthodontic tooth movement. Distance between the nasopalatine canal and maxillary central incisors was estimated at the value from 4 to 6 mm, which is below the recommended value for maximum incisal retraction by Proffit. Research results show variations in shape, length, and diameter of the nasopalatine canal, which indicates individual varieties detected on cone beam computed tomography. Other anatomical structures and measures show an insignificant correlation with orthodontic teeth movement. According to the contradictory results of the available articles, it is required to achieve an individual approach to orthodontic interventions in the area of the anterior maxilla.","PeriodicalId":21582,"journal":{"name":"Serbian Journal of Experimental and Clinical Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49354312","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the observed heterogeneity in the existing definitions and the lack of a uniform definition of serious bodily injury, in January 2013 the High Level Group on Road Safety EU (HLGRS) published the definition of serious bodily injury in road traffic as a non-fatal injury with Maximum Abbreviated Injury Scale (MAIS) between 3 and 6, including the limit values. However, determining the MAIS score is not easy even for doctors with many years of experience. A female patient, injured as a pedestrian in a traffic accident, was examined prehospitally, and was transported to the hospital in the optimal golden hour from the time of the injury. The patient was intubated and mechanically ventilated in the Critical Care Resuscitation Unit. After the entire diagnostic procedure, diagnoses were made according to the ICD classification of diseases. During further examination, each code of the diagnosis of the disease was assigned an AIS code and the highest AIS score - AIS 5 was determined, which indicated that the patient was critically injured. Our patient's MAIS score was 5. After 39 days she was discharged from hospital. The neurological findings at discharge corresponded to left hemiparesis – ASIA D impairment grade. In conclusion, a novelty in the assessment of severe bodily injury is the introduction of the AIS/MAIS score. However, to avoid a subjective assessment of these scores, AIS dictionaries should be obtained for physicians, or a software solution should be developed to convert ICD-10 diagnoses into the AIS / MAIS injury scale.","PeriodicalId":21582,"journal":{"name":"Serbian Journal of Experimental and Clinical Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43031123","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
