There is no feasible scope for direct exposure. Astronomy kits are usually expensive to afford and the current means applied in Government schools fail to address this issue. Odyssey is an interactive virtual Solar System which helps children visualise concepts of scale and distance and various events, for instance, Eclipse and Lunar Phases. Odyssey creates a realistic simulation of the movement of the planets and various other events by taking into account the Planets' positions at a given time, their mass and the gravitational forces between them. Odyssey follows an approach where students figure out concepts by trial and error, by changing different values and seeing the effects in real-time thereby learning by doing.","PeriodicalId":214922,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th Indian Conference on Human-Computer Interaction","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129696628","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It discusses the ways in which UX-driven technology trendsevaluation, heuristic analysis, and user feedback significantly informed the product definition and allowed Informatica to leapfrog the competition. Before and after examples of the product are included to demonstrate the huge strides that are possible when Product Management, UX, and Technologists all come together.","PeriodicalId":214922,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th Indian Conference on Human-Computer Interaction","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122075963","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we present a study conducted to investigate four suitable gestural input methods (i) Grabbing (ii) Pointing (iii) Hand motion in 2D plane and (iv) Body movement in 3D space for menu selection, their performance and acceptance for gesture-controlled user interfaces using a game \"Treasure Hunt\". Study was conducted with two different sets of 20-20 participants in public and private environment. We investigated the gestures from participants for their ranking preferences, social acceptance (user and spectator) and positive-negativeaffect after experiencing each menu selection method. Each selection method was also evaluated for its usability through collecting error rates and task completion time. These parameters were analyzed for exploring trends within and between environments. We observed that Grabbing was most preferred for both public and private environment, however it took significantly higher time to complete the task. Pointing and Hand Motion in 2D Plane found most errors in both environments. Higher social acceptance was found in public environment than private environment. We also present subjective analysis and discuss them in detail.","PeriodicalId":214922,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th Indian Conference on Human-Computer Interaction","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127610161","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Efficient management of chronic diseases such as Tuberculosis remains a common problem. The WHO has declared TB as a global health emergency. Non-adherence to the prescribed medical regimen remains a tremendous barrier to the effective management of Tuberculosis and is considered one of the most serious problems that the medical world faces at present, especially in developing nations like India. We describe a system, with the objective of recommending changes to the current DOTS program under RNTCP. The proposed system consists of some unique features which could strengthen the existing system. In our research, it was found that adherence records lacked authenticity as well as efficiency, which becomes critical in a chronic diseases such as Tuberculosis. We conceptualized a system consisting of a medi-kit which is technologically enabled to keep track of dosage records and default cases. This enables providers and supervisors with a system facilitating regular monitoring. Besides this, the problem of side-effects was also identified as one of the primary reasons for defecting from treatment. The medi-kit has the facility to keep a track of the side-effects being encountered by the patient, which would help in regular monitoring of the patient's health profile and assist in taking pertinent medical action.","PeriodicalId":214922,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th Indian Conference on Human-Computer Interaction","volume":"290 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132635610","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper is a small attempt to find design opportunities to improve formal learning in such schools. User studies were conducted in five schools in rural Gujarat to identify challenges and opportunities in such schools. Analysis of such studies surfaced circumstances ranging from class combination and spatial movements of students, to unavailability of teachers, and less instruction time. These gave insights regarding students' behavior in groups, spatial arrangements, importance of tangible artifacts, and interaction among peers. The paper discusses design opportunities especially from the point of view of HCI community. It throws light upon insights, design implications, and in few cases design ideas.","PeriodicalId":214922,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th Indian Conference on Human-Computer Interaction","volume":"144 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115814391","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Constructive feedback on design is crucial for helping design students and amateur designers iterate towards better solutions. However most of the current platforms don't promote honest design feedback and are primarily used only for self-promotion. This paper proposes Scranvas, a community for students and non-experts to encourage sharing of creative work and generate constructive feedback. Users interpret the designs based on the context and goals stated by the designer and share feedback through annotations.","PeriodicalId":214922,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th Indian Conference on Human-Computer Interaction","volume":"2012 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128212075","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
