The BFA mimics nature and checkmates the impending problems of local optimum associated with classical procedures like steepest descent and Conjugate methods. It was used here to optimize fuzzy logic controller parameters for control of power in the reverse link of DS-CDMA cellular system over the fading channel. The cellular structure assumed consists of 19 hexagonally shaped cells with BS at the centre of each cell having equal users while mobile units transmit equal power at 1watt maximum. A closed-loop feedback model of the communication link was designed and computer simulations conducted using Matlab-Simulink tool box. The developed model was used to compute and simulate the gain links, total system interference power and outage probability in the context of Energy per bit to interference ratio (E0/I0) and AWGN. The simulation results have shown that the BFA tuned fuzzy controller improved the signal reception with respect to steady state error, minimum peak overshoot and shows a slower rate outage probability with respect to increasing number of users. Doppler effects due to mobility of the mobile user have also been evaluated. These results have great impact generally on the improvement of system Quality of Service (QoS) in terms of system capacity and minimized outage probability rate.","PeriodicalId":214121,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference for Students on Applied Engineering (ICSAE)","volume":"79 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132547380","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

LED visual stimulus was based on a radial 130 mm chip on board (COB) LEDs emitting green light. The frequencies of the flickers were precisely controlled by a 32-bit microcontroller platform to generate SSVEP with high accuracy. For this study the luminosity of the visual stimulus was controlled externally at levels of 25, 50, 75 and 100% of the maximum visual stimulus brightness. The SSVEP frequencies used to investigate the luminosity effect were 7, 8, 9 and 10 Hz for a period of 30 seconds for all the four luminous levels of the visual stimulus. The study analysed the EEG recordings from five participants comprising of five trials for each frequency and luminous levels of visual stimulus. The results indicated that luminosity at 75% of the full brightness gave significantly higher response for all participants when compared to other luminous levels of the visual stimulus with reduced visual fatigue.","PeriodicalId":214121,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference for Students on Applied Engineering (ICSAE)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132778244","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unlike the classical boost converter, which transfers input power to the output during the switch OFF period, here power is transferred to the output during the switch ON period. A state space averaging method is employed to derive the small signal ac model with ideal components. The control to output transfer function exhibits a non-minimum phase system identical to the conventional boost converter. The derived model is validated via simulation. A dual loop average current mode controller is designed to regulate the converter output voltage. Experimental results taken from a 250W laboratory prototype operating with an input voltage of 20V and output voltage of 190V verify the effectiveness of the controller. The proposed converter is well suited for renewable energy and grid connected power system applications.","PeriodicalId":214121,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference for Students on Applied Engineering (ICSAE)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131166962","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The effective implementation of AFM-based techniques critically depends on the bluntness of the used tip as this affects directly the achievable resolution. In this paper, a novel metric is proposed to evaluate the tip bluntness of AFM probes. Its main advantage is that it relies on three-dimensional (3D) tip data, which can be obtained in-situ, i.e. without removing the probe from the head of the AFM instrument. Indeed, by using the probe to scan a tip characteriser, it is possible to extract very accurate 3D data on the real shape of the tip apex. Such tip characteriser is a common test structure consisting of an array of silicon sharp pin-like asperities. Based on these data, it is proposed to calculate the ratio of the volume of the tip to the volume of an imaginary cylinder in which the tip is contained. In this way, depending on the measured ratio, the bluntness of the AFM tip can be assessed. The utilisation of this metric is demonstrated on four different non-axisymmetric tips as received from the manufacturer. The obtained results correlate well with the assessment of the condition of these tips evaluated with a different approach, also investigated by the authors.","PeriodicalId":214121,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference for Students on Applied Engineering (ICSAE)","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127241990","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authors believe that such feasibility studies by employing rice husk and natural gas in a cycle to improve the energy efficiency and carbon emission savings of chemical plant are limited and therefore this research is timely not only because of the current interest in high-performance cogeneration options but also from the scientific research point of view. The cogeneration technologies implemented are a gas turbine, steam turbine and combined cycle and are evaluated from the energetic and economic point of view to propose a best suitable technology. These technologies are evaluated on the basis of energy utilization factor, simple pay-back period and Annualized life cycle cost (ALCC). The results show that all studied cogeneration options running on thermal match mode have fully satisfied the thermal demand of a chemical plant and in most cases, 70% electric demand, where combined cycle has the highest energy utilization factor and the least Annualized life cycle cost with the lowest payback period.","PeriodicalId":214121,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference for Students on Applied Engineering (ICSAE)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114636111","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is known that the structure of folding object consists of two essential parts. These parts are the faces and the creases. In this paper, it is assumed that the faces could be built by using solid materials, and the crease lines can be built using soft material which provides a high bent ability. Furthermore, these two materials should be combined built without using any connections between them. Fortunately, the 3D printer provides this capability. It can print two types of different materials at the same time for the same structure. Therefore, a 3D printer is chosen to fabricate a folding structure using two types of material. These types are the Vero for solid faces and Tango plus FLX930 for the soft creases lines. The soft material at hinge part (creases lines) subjected to the load directly when the structure folds. It should have a clear view of the mechanical properties of this material. Therefore, several mechanical tests for Tango FLX930 material are operated to calculate its mechanical properties and find the force that required to fold it.","PeriodicalId":214121,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference for Students on Applied Engineering (ICSAE)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123626134","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Different weight contents of both xGnP and CSCNT were used to prepare these novel nanocomposites, namely 0 (base tests), 2.5, 4, 5, 6 and 7 wt. %. The principal challenge to the manufacturing processes was to achieve uniform dispersion for both xGnP and CSCNT in the epoxy matrix and the method of Ultra-sonication was used in this work to disperse these two types of nanomaterials in the epoxy. Tensile and flexural tests were conducted to assess the effect of nanoparticle content on the mechanical properties of the composites. The results demonstrate that the tensile strength and elastic modulus increased by approximately 15.62% and 14.17% respectively for the CSCNT/epoxy nanocomposite, 14% and 10.45% respectively for the xGnP/epoxy nanocomposite, and a significant increase in tensile strength of approximately 12.5% for the xGnP-CSCNT/hybrid epoxy nanocomposite. The flexural strength and modulus improved by approximately 28.5% and 25% respectively for the CSCNT/epoxy nanocomposite, while a mechanical property improvement of 21.5% was observed for the xGnP-CSCNT/hybrid epoxy nanocomposite, attained at a somewhat low weigh content of 4 wt. %. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) was used to assess the dispersion of nanomaterials in the epoxy resin which showed a reasonable dispersion of nanoparticles in the resin albeit with some regions of agglomerate nanoparticles.","PeriodicalId":214121,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference for Students on Applied Engineering (ICSAE)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122102989","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

High energy efficiency is a unique advantage of the proposed charger. It has dual outputs; it can charge two batteries separately at the same time. The demonstrated topology has a fault tolerant (FT) capability in case of dual open switch faults. In addition it can be used in parallel mode to reduce the charge time significantly or in standalone mode to improve light load efficiency. A control technique and fault detection (FD) method is also developed for the proposed charger. To validate the theory, a 600 W, 24 VDC dual output battery charger with universal input 120/230 VAC is simulated in Matlab/Simulink under different load and input voltage conditions.","PeriodicalId":214121,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference for Students on Applied Engineering (ICSAE)","volume":"69 9","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120852343","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A variety of popular trim pattern geometries including the plunge and L-cut were modelled and tested and their effect on resistance value, temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) and heat-affected-zone (HAZ) sensitivity was investigated. It is shown that variation in resistor dimensions and trim length in the trimming algorithm can increase the TCR of the resistors with results of 100-140 ppm/°C for the plunge cut and 100-130 ppm/°C for the L-cut. It is also found that the L-cut has lower sensitivity in the HAZ with a value of 11% in comparison with the plunge cut with a value of 12% for the same resistor dimensions.","PeriodicalId":214121,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference for Students on Applied Engineering (ICSAE)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123957435","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This technology can be more useful in the hot and developing countries where millions of people face annually the severe heat waves during summer and they still lack access to secure electricity grids, where adsorption system can be used to generate electricity as well as cooling in the same time. In this study, a novel four bed adsorption system is designed to generate cooling and electricity simultaneously. The system comprises mainly of two topping beds, two bottoming beds, two evaporators, condenser and expander (turbine). The topping beds are powered using the low grade heat source and utilizing AQSOA-Z02 (SAPO-34) zeolite (an advance adsorption material) and water, while the bottoming beds is powered by the heat recovered from the topping beds and utilizing Silica-gel and water. Results show that the overall system efficiency can be improved by 62%.","PeriodicalId":214121,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference for Students on Applied Engineering (ICSAE)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125678006","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
