Material and Methods: Three different splints (wire-composite, single layer fibre glass and fibre reinforced Everstik splint) were adapted to the extracted Human incisors, placed in a non-rigid fashion on the experimental dental models designed for the study. Stress analysis was conducted on the test specimens by applying both static axial and 45⁰ oblique force with linear increasing intensity ranging from 0-50N and 0-30N respectively both with and without splints using universal testing machine. For each loading direction, the energy required to modify the position of the teeth at increasing applied forces was recorded for specimens with and without splints and the difference between two values (∆E) was determined, which corresponds to the rigidity of the materials. Results: For both axial and oblique tests, fibre reinforced splint had shown least ∆E values (0.02±0.08 in axial, 0.01±4.05 in oblique) while wire-composite had shown highest ∆E values (0.67±2.56 in axial, 1.42±5.16 in oblique). Conclusions: Fibre reinforced splint could be an ideal alternative for splinting traumatized teeth, as it exhibits a lower energy variation needed for deformation and conducive to optimal periodontal healing during immobilization.","PeriodicalId":213881,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research in Dentistry","volume":"771 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132658683","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The easy accessibility of medicinal plants causes the individual to use concomitant allopathic medicines without any professional guidance. This form of self-medication can inhibit or intensify the effect of medications, so this association requires caution. Aim: To survey the medicinal plants used and their possible drug interactions between synthetic drugs and medicinal plants, including those of dental properties, employed by users of the Jardim das Gracas Health Center, Colombo-PR. Methodology: Qualitative study of a descriptive approach; Composed of 31 research participants, chosen at random, according to the criterion: belong to the area of coverage of the UC, and accept to participate in the research. The data were obtained in three stages: 1st home visit, where the research participants answered a questionnaire, 2nd was collected the plants used for botanical identification were collected, 3rd in the medical records, data on the prescribed drugs were analyzed. Results: 77.4% of the research participants used medicinal plants, 33.3% were over 45 years of age, 74.2% were women, 95.8% took medication associated with plant use, 62.5% used plants as medicine, the most used part was the leaf (61.53%), preparation through boiling (75%). The most cited plant was guaco (10.4%), followed by chamomile (9.6%) and lemon (6.4%), and those related to dentistry were: rosemary, arnica, alfavaca, chamomile, fennel, ginger, spearmint, clove and melissa. We concluded that most of the participants used plants concomitantly with allopathic medication, mainly diseases, without any guidance from health professionals. A total of 14 allopathy drugs, and 13 medicinal plants which may present possible risk for drug interaction, were observed.","PeriodicalId":213881,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research in Dentistry","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130650647","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Material and Methods: Silicon matrixes were confectioned (10x10x3mm) to be used as specimens. The groups were designed as follows: Group Pot, Group Brush, Group Manufacturer and Group Bisacrylic (n=18). Each group was exposed to three different pigmentation solutions: distilled water, coke and chlorhexidine digluconate 0.12%. Three readings were performed for each specimen using a spectrophotometer, and the evaluations were carried out in three different time. After the color reading, three averages and the standard deviation of variation were performed after 24 hours (T1), 7 days (T2) and 14 days (T3). Data were submitted to the ANOVA and 2 criteria and Tukey (P<0.05) in the statistical software SSPS 18 for Macintosh (SPSS Inc., Chicago, USA). Results: When compared the solutions in each group of material, there was no statistically significant difference, except for T3, where the group Dencor Brush and Bisacrylic demonstrated higher color variation in all the solutions, even in the control group, and the values in Chlorhexidine higher than the other, showing greater instability after 14 days. Conclusions: With the results, bisacrylic resin used as provisory prosthesis material presents greater color instability than the ARCA, when submitted to different solutions. Bisacrylic resin and Dencor Brush present significantly visible color changes in chlorhexidine solution after 14 days. All the materials in coke solution present homogeneity in the color change after 7 days exposition to the solution, with no visible color change.","PeriodicalId":213881,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research in Dentistry","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129570478","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
