To evaluate antimicrobial activity of plant extracts, determine the lower quantity of substance to inhibit the microorganism test growth is necessary. This value is known as Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC). This study had as aim to verify the antimicrobial action and the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) and coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) oil extract before S. mutans (ATCC 25175) strains. Antimicrobial activity determination was carried out by microdilution method and performed according to recommendations of CLSI (previously known as NCCLS), standard M7-A6 (NCCLS, 2003) for bacteria, and standard M27-A2 (NCCLS, 2002). All the experiments were carried out in triplicate. Results showed the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) determination by microdilution method in broth showed Ocimum basilicum L. and Coriandrum sativum L. extract oils presented inhibitory activity before S. mutans strain. Basil in 1:4 concentration is bacteriostatic and in 1:3 concentration is bactericide. Coriander in 1:2 concentration is bacteriostatic and in 1:1 concentration is bactericide. We concluded that basil presented higher inhibitory activity regarding to the coriander. We also observed as bigger the extract dilution, lower their effectivity.o assess the attitude and practice of dental professionals towards using of advance Radiographic technique.","PeriodicalId":213881,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research in Dentistry","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130006291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Continuous search for minimally invasive procedures has resulted in the conception of reduced-length dental implants, decreasing the necessary amount of bone for implantation, thereby reducing the need of bone-grafts. Given the growing demand in the field of implant dentistry and the continuous development of surgical techniques, this study aimed to review the current literature on the predictability and success rate of short implants. Relevant articles published in the PubMed database between the years of 2004 and 2014 were selected using the following key-words: short dental implants, extra-short implants, survival rate, implant, mandible, maxilla, prognosis, implant survival, implant length. Based on the literature review, we concluded that short implants showed high predictability and high success rate in the short term, therefore they are one of the current options for the rehabilitation of atrophic alveolar ridges. Further longitudinal studies are necessary to define more reliably parameters for their proper use, ensuring the achievement of high success rates and survival rates with the use of this type of implant.o assess the attitude and practice of dental professionals towards using of advance radiographic technique.","PeriodicalId":213881,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research in Dentistry","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123672159","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The shaping occurs with the use of drills to a geometry that is directly related to a predetermined form of material that will obturate the tooth’s interior.The aim of this study was to investigate a novel device that applies sonic energy during the obturation of the tooth’s interior. Extracted human teeth underwent endodontic treatment.  Half of the group were conventionally obturated and the other half were obturated with the novel device.  Post-treatment radiographs were evaluated utilizing Schulich dental school endodontic marking criteria.No statistical significance ( α = 0.05) was determined between each group.  A higher incidence of filled space (60%) occurred with sonic obturation when compared to conventional obturation (33%).  Micro-computer tomography (CT) images were obtained of one sample from each group to assess the three-dimensional obturation.  The novel device facilitated easy handling and demonstrated potential for effective obturation. Further tests are required for device refinement, larger sample sizes and clinical validation to assess the attitude and practice of dental professionals towards using of advance Radiographic technique.","PeriodicalId":213881,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research in Dentistry","volume":"31 5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130803465","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Material and Methods: 31 individuals between 55 and 99 years old were evaluated, both genders, frequent users of Dentistry Clinic of the University of Araraquara (Uniara) and residents at Recanto Feliz, in the same town. A cognitive evaluation was carried out through a mini mental state examination in order to define inclusion criteria to individuals of sample. Next, a questionnaire was applied, with pre-coded questions on the masticatory capacity and an efficiency test, through the grinding test, where patients received 5 almonds to be grinded and not swallowed. The fragments were poured in granulometric sieves (2mm, 4mm and 4,75mm) to analyze the food fragmentation under tap water. Participants were divided into 3 groups: G1 (n=13) – superior and inferior total prosthesis user, or total or partial edentulous; G2 (n=4) – Total prosthesis user and/or partial removal prosthesis user (PRP) or partial dentition; and G3 (n=14) – complete or partial dentition or PRP user. Results: Efficiency test results showed the G1 patients presented good efficiency and 8 were considered poor; G2 patients were all classified as poor, and G3 patients were 9 poor, 2 regular and 3 good. Regarding to the questionnaires, most patients from the 3 groups felt impossibility to masticate some food, and need special preparation to chew. On take more time to masticate when compared to other people, all patients from G2 answered affirmatively, while only 46.1% G1 and 50% G3 gave the same answer.Just 15.4% G1 and 28.6% G2 are not satisfied with the tame they take.About avoid in front of other people, most patients from G2 and G3 use to, however, 69.2% G1 answered negatively. Regarding to the masticatory capacity self-evaluation, they answered regular. Conclusions: Masticatory efficiency of people using removable prosthesis did not achieve the ideal of a complete dentition. However, it is still better than in individuals with partial dentition or not rehabilitated.","PeriodicalId":213881,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research in Dentistry","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125057023","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We also performed an “in-vitro” quali-quantitative experiment with 200 ceramic surfaces made of lithium disilicate and feldspar. Which were divided into different surface variables. We also executed mathematical calculations in order to calculate the Delta-E-1976 indicator, which determines the difference of color in ceramic surfaces. In this sense, we analyzed the values obtained with standardized polarized photographs, before and after submerging them into different pigmentation containers for 20 days. These values were compared with visual tests. Case report: The patient's oral health condition was unfavorable with biofilm accumulation, pain report and chewing difficulty. After anamnesis, clinical and radiographic examination, the treatment plan included removal of infectious foci (54, 55, 64, 65, 74, 75, 85, 16, 36 and 46) followed by prosthetic rehabilitation. At this stage, the functional restoration of the lower arch was restricted by the imminent eruption of the premolars. In the upper arch, the maintenance of the mesio-distal diameters aims to guarantee the chronological sequence of successors irruption and establishment of normal occlusion. During the monthly follow-up consultations the patient presents a more spontaneous smile, although she still needs constant reinforcement in oral hygiene habits. Extracts and essential oils from plants have been shown to be efficient in controlling the growth of a wide variety of microorganisms, including filamentous fungi, yeasts and bacteria. Practical uses of these activities are suggested in humans and animals, as well as in the food industry. This study aimed to evaluate the basal basil essential oil (Ocimum basilicum L.) cytotoxicity in NCTC Clone 929 cell line, mouse connective tissue cells (CCIAL 020), which were seeded in Petri dishes and incubated for 48 hours To to form the cell monolayer. For the this test accomplishment of this test, we counted with the collaboration of the Nucleus of Cell Cultures - NCC of the Adolfo Lutz Institute, of the city of Sao Paulo-SP. The culture medium used is the solid coating medium, and fragments of the samples fragments are were placed on this coating medium and the plates were again incubated for 24 hours. The Biological Reactivity Degree (GR) index, which is the area not stained by the vital dye, is were observed macro and microscopically. Samples were tested in quadruplicates on separate plates. ThusThereunto, the test result showed that the essential oil was cytotoxic in the cell line studied, and that the future work in pharmacology and toxicology needs to be performed to better standardize the therapeutic dose, which is not cytotoxic as the pure oil behaved.o assess the attitude and practice of dental professionals towards using of advance Radiographic technique.","PeriodicalId":213881,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research in Dentistry","volume":"215 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120868329","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
