Methods: An online questionnaire with seven open and closed questions hosted on the Google forms platform was applied to dentists trained in the first half of 2019 in a School of Dentistry in southern Brazil. The questionnaire is structured to analyze how clinical Endodontics has been practiced in the labor market. The data collected in the questionnaires were transferred to an Excel® spreadsheet and analyzed as absolute and relative frequencies for closed questions and descriptions for open questions. Results: Molars and two-rooted teeth are the dental groups most frequently treated endodontically (64.3% and 35.7%). Both retreatment and conservative treatment of the pulp corresponded to up to 25% of all procedures in the graduates’ clinical practice. The endodontic protocol learned in their dental school was used by 64.3% of the graduates who provided endodontic treatments, and 42.9% reported the occurrence of at least one accident. The difficulty in access reported by the participants suggests that more training should be provided for this operative stage. Conclusions: After two years in the job market and having faced the initial difficulties existing in any profession, more than half of the graduates still performed endodontics in their dental clinical practice and used the same protocols learned in dental school.","PeriodicalId":213881,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research in Dentistry","volume":"02 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130939247","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objectives: research and discuss the literature about the bioactivity and biocompatibility of bioceramic sealants. Materials and methods: An integrative review was performed. The systematic plan consisted of four steps. In the first stage, a bibliographic survey was carried out in the Capes Periódicos Portal database. The search criteria were articles published between 2017 and 2022, found in the “advanced search” mode, using cross-references with the following keywords: bioceramics sealers AND endodontology AND root canals AND endodontic sealer AND bioactivity AND biocompatibility. Only documents found and published in full were evaluated. In the second stage, the titles and abstracts of the articles were read. In the third stage, a selection was made of those containing 3 to 5 keywords and a wording equal to or close to the proposed keywords. The fourth step consisted of reading the texts in full, followed by checking for duplicity and building a table with the collected information. Results: In view of the research carried out, 23 articles were obtained in the first stage. After reading the titles and abstracts, 21 articles were obtained. After selecting those containing 3 to 5 keywords, 10 articles met the criteria. One article was deleted due to duplicates. 9 articles met the exclusion and inclusion criteria and were selected to be part of the integrative review. Discussion: The selected studies in this literature review showed that bioceramic endodontic sealants perform well in endodontic therapy. Conclusion: To advance in its clinical application, more in vivo and in vitro studies with precise methods are needed to obtain more reliable data about its properties.","PeriodicalId":213881,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research in Dentistry","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115055633","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An early diagnosis could influence the therapeutic approach, but endodontic treatment becomes a challenge with a doubtful prognosis. The present report described an unusual clinical presentation of an IIRR with perforation resulting from a trauma four years previous. A 15-year-old female patient was presented to our service with pain in the maxillary incisor region. Intraoral radiography revealed a large radioloucent area compatible with IIRR, communicating with the periodontium in the middle third on the distal root face of the right central incisor. The root canal of the right central incisor was chemo-mechanically prepared. The calcium hydroxide (CH) intracanal medication was used and renewed periodically four times. The root canal was filled only in the cervical region to the level of resorption by the inverted gutta-percha cone technique. Clinically and radiographically, all follow-up examinations revealed an asymptomatic tooth, evidencing periapical tissue repair and new bone formation. The tooth remained asymptomatic 3 years afterwards. The present case report supports the idea of executing satisfactory intracanal decontamination by chemo-mechanical preparation, thus creating a favourable environment for tissue repair.","PeriodicalId":213881,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research in Dentistry","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121789264","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The factors in the study were the irrigation solutions in two levels: 2.5% sodium hypochlorite and saline solution; and the adhesive systems used in three levels: three-step adhesive, universal adhesive, and two-step self-etch adhesive systems. The answer variable used was the microshear bond strength obtained through a universal testing machine and fracture mode. Six groups were obtained (n=10) : Etch-and-rinse/Saline (saline solution + 3-step adhesive system - Scotchbond Multipurpose, 3M ESPE); Universal/saline (saline solution + universal adhesive system – Prime&Bond,); Self-etch/saline (saline solution + 2-step self-etch adhesive systems - Clearfil SE Bond); Etch-and-rinse/Hypo (sodium hypochlorite 2,5% + 3-step adhesive system - Scotchbond Multiuso); Universal/Hypo (sodium hypochlorite 2,5% + universal adhesive system – Prime&Bond); Self-etch/Hypo (sodium hypochlorite 2,5% + 2-step self-etch adhesive system - Clearfil Se Bond). The specimens were obtained from 60 healthy bovine incisors. The crowns were separated from the roots, and the regularization of the buccal surface was performed. The groups received saline solution and 2.5% sodium hypochlorite for 30 minutes, respectively. A matrix of 1mm and 3mm oh height was stabilized by Scotch tape to obtain the resin sticks. Afterward, the bond strength test was performed in a universal testing machine at 1mm/min speed. The data were analyzed with normality Shapiro-Wilk, two-way ANOVA, and Tukey’s tests (p<0.001). Etch-and-rinse and Self-etch adhesives presented the highest bond strength values after irrigation with saline solution and 2.5% sodium hypochlorite, respectively (P < 0.01). The irrigation with 2.5% sodium hypochlorite decreased the bond strength values of Etch-and-rinse and Universal (P < 0.01). On the other hand, 2.5% sodium hypochlorite improved the bond strength values of Self-etch (P < 0.01). In conclusion, 2.5% sodium hypochlorite negatively impacted the bond strength of Etch-and-rinse and Universal but improved the adhesion of Self-etch.","PeriodicalId":213881,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research in Dentistry","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124079754","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: Thirty distobuccal roots of maxillary molars were selected. Root canal preparation was performed up to an #40.06 instrument (X1 Blue) under 2.5% sodium hypochlorite irrigation. Specimens were randomly divided into three groups (n=10), according to the final irrigation protocol: G-NaOCl (2.5% sodium hypochlorite + PUI), G-SS (0.9% saline solution + PUI) and G-H20 (Deionized water + PUI). After final irrigation protocols, all specimens were irrigated with phosphate buffer solution. Root canal obturation was performed using the single cone technique and Sealer Plus BC, stained with a specific fluorophore. Specimens were transversely sectioned and each root third was evaluated in a confocal scanning laser microscopy. Images obtained were analyzed for sealer penetration in the dentinal tubules.\u0000Results: Dentinal tubule penetration of Sealer Plus BC was not observed in any root third, regardless of the final irrigation protocol investigated.\u0000Conclusions: Sealer Plus BC dentinal tubule penetration was not observed after none of the protocols tested. Aim: To evaluate the Protaper Universal retreatment system and WaveOne instrument in removing the filling material from curved canals during retreatment. Materials and Methods: Thirty mesial root canals of extracted human mandibular molar teeth were randomly allocated into 2 groups (n=15). In the PT group, retreatment was performed with ProTaper Universal Retreatment according to the manufacturer’s instructions. In the WO group, was used WaveOne Primary. ProTaper Universal F2 and F3 were used to achieve the apical diameter in both groups. The samples were scanned by microcomputed tomography pre and postoperatively to evaluate the filling material remaining. The percentage of material filling was compared between groups using Student’s T test and in the same group among thirds was compared using Kruskal-Wallis followed by Dunn’s post hoc test. Results: The filling material remaining was not statistically different between the groups (p≥0.05). The apical third presented a greater amount of remaining filling material when compared with the cervical third for both groups (p<0.05).
