Therefore\u0000Framework Convention on Tobacco\u0000Control and MPOWER package were\u0000developed. The strategies contained\u0000in these documents are considered\u0000to be the most effective and efficient.\u0000Compliance with these guidelines\u0000and broad public support for the implemented\u0000solutions has positive effects\u0000on the population level, and also\u0000at the local level, eg. voivodeship or\u0000district.\u0000The aim of the study was to investigate\u0000the attitudes and opinions\u0000of employees of schools on selected\u0000elements of tobacco control policies\u0000and strategies for tobacco control.</p><p><strong>Material and methods: </strong>During the period from November 2014 and May\u00002015 employees working in 60 schools\u0000in Piotrkowski county were examined.\u0000Conducting a survey among the personnel\u0000employed in schools an anonymous\u0000questionnare adopted from\u0000the study Global School Personnel\u0000Survey (GSPS) was applied.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Among all surveyed every\u0000third respondent believes that\u0000smoking bans in the workplace help\u0000smokers to stop smoking. Among all\u0000respondents, half of the respondents\u0000believe that smoking bans in the\u0000workplace help former smokers to\u0000maintain tobacco abstinence. Coexistence\u0000of smoking and obesity\u0000lead to a significant increase in the\u0000risk of cardiovascular diseases. It is\u0000also known that both the tobacco and\u0000excessive weight have a negative impact\u0000on oral health.</p><p><strong>Aim: </strong>Assessment of the frequency\u0000of smoking, hygienic habits and\u0000healthy behaviors in people with obesity.</p><p><strong>Material and methods: </strong>The study\u0000included 125 people, of both sexes,\u0000aged from 20 to 65 years. The study\u0000group consisted of patients Clinic of\u0000Internal Medicine, Metabolic and Nutrition,\u0000Poznań University of Medical\u0000Sciences with a BMI> 25 kg/m2, control\u0000group - patients Clinic of Conservative\u0000Dentistry and Periodontology,\u0000Poznań University of Medical\u0000Sciences of normal weight (BMI <25\u0000kg/m2). All participants were asked to\u0000complete a short survey on smoking,\u0000frequency of dental checkups and hygiene\u0000habits associated with the oral\u0000cavity.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>In both groups of patients,\u0000obese and normal weight, we\u0000found similar percentages of smokers:\u000025 and 24.24%. Assuming that\u0000anti-smoking education conducted\u0000among of the children’s parents during\u0000each control visit to the Allergy\u0000Clinic affects the behavior of the\u0000parents, we decided to analyze its\u0000effectiveness.</p><p><strong>Materials and methods: </strong>The study\u0000comprised parents of 946 children\u0000at the Allergy Clinic, who were diagnosed\u0000and treated in years 2005-2014.\u0000The anti-nicotine education was applied\u0000by whole period of observation\u0000during routine medical visits. The outcome\u0000of an anti-smoking education\u0000achieved nearly 70 % efficiency.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Anti-nicotine education\u0000of the children’s parents diseased on\u0000chronic allergic diseases of respiratory\u0000system is very good restrictive\u0000agent their exposition on smoking\u0000the tobacco. Most of the enzymes are allergens\u0000with different allergenic potential.\u0000It may affect not only to the\u0000symptoms, it may also contribute to\u0000the success of immunotherapy. In\u0000some cases the problem of a bee venom\u0000allergy diagnosis is difficult due\u0000to the imperfection of the classical\u0000diagnostic methods. In the present\u0000work reports in the literature regarding\u0000the bee venom allergy diagnosis\u0000on the basis of identification of the\u0000venom allergen sIgE to components\u0000are summarized.\u0000The use of recombinant allergens\u0000has allowed for the study of sIgE\u0000against the allergenic components,\u0000and thus determination of the individual\u0000profile of allergy. Symptoms\u0000of food hypersensitivity in\u0000this group of patients are often exacerbated\u0000during the pollen season.\u0000These reactions may be the results\u0000of cross-reactions between pollen\u0000and food allergens or food and pollen\u0000allergy coexisting. The aim of\u0000the study was to determine the incidence\u0000of food hypersensitivity in\u0000patients allergic to airborne allergens,\u0000the type of clinical manifestations\u0000and a kind of food frequently\u0000causing the symptoms. Retrospective\u0000analyses of case records of 55\u0000randomly selected patients with airborne\u0000allergy aged from 18 to 72 yrs\u0000(mean 55 yrs), including 28 women\u0000ranging in age from 18 years to 62\u0000yrs (mean 36 yrs) and 27 men aged\u0000from 18 to 72 yrs (mean 34 yrs) were\u0000carried out. All patients underwent\u0000skin prick tests with the following allergens:\u0000grass, rye, birch, alder, hazel,\u0000mugwort, plantain, Dermatophagoides\u0000farinae, Dermatophagoides\u0000pteronyssinus, skin dog, cat dander,\u0000Alternaria alternata, Cladosporium\u0000herbarum. We assessed the type\u0000of clinical manifestations of pollen\u0000allergy and evaluated the type of\u0000clinical manifestations of food hypersensitivity\u0000and the type of foods\u0000that caused it. In the examined 55\u0000patients, 15 individuals reported\u0000food hypersensitivity (27.2%), the\u0000most frequently after consumption\u0000of apples, carrots, cherry, peach,\u0000hazelnut, walnut, celery and nectarines.\u0000Clinical manifestation of food\u0000hypersensitivity was mainly oral allergy\u0000syndrome (OAS). Hypersensitivity\u0000to food above all was reported\u0000by patients with allergic rhinitis,\u0000sensitive to grass and tree pollen.\u0000Due to the high prevalence of food\u0000hypersensitivity in patients allergic\u0000to airborne allergens, it seems advisable\u0000to consider avoiding eating\u0000some foods, such as apple, carrots,\u0000cherries, peach, particularly frequently\u0000cross-reacting with grass\u0000and trees allergens. {"title":"[Cancer patients expectations of their doctors].","authors":"Anna Kornaś, Barbara Bętkowska-Korpała","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"<p><p>The evaluation of expectations\u0000of patients is one of the elements of\u0000evaluation of patient’s satisfaction\u0000from the received medical services.\u0000The degree to which these expectations\u0000are met determinates the level\u0000of patient’s motivation to complete\u0000doctor’s orders and undertake actions\u0000aiming the diagnostic and therapeutic\u0000process.\u0000Cancers as diseases of affluence\u0000are a significant clinical and social issue.\u0000In the context of holistic patient\u0000care the research of cancer patient’s\u0000expectations are of special importance.\u0000The aim of the work is to present\u0000definitions and types of expectations\u0000that the cancer patients have of their\u0000doctors and the methodology of\u0000research in this field. The work was\u0000performed on basis of analysis of publications\u0000found in MEDLINE , EMBASE,\u0000PsycINFO, Web of Science databases\u0000and concerning results of research\u0000of patient’s expectations. First part of\u0000the article discusses the definitions\u0000and type of patient’s expectations of\u0000doctors. Then the begins of research\u0000on the expectations of patients were\u0000described, including the input of Polish\u0000authors in this field. Little is known about respiratory and allergy problems in ELBW children at the threshold of adolescence.</p><p><strong>Materials and methods: </strong>A follow-up study was conducted at the age of 11 among ELBW children (n=65) and age-matched controls (n=36). The primary outcomes in the study were the occurrence of respiratory and allergy problems and the rate of hospitalization due to respiratory complications at the age of 11 years, assessed with a questionnaire. Secondary outcome variables were serum levels of immunoglobulin classes.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>ELBW children had more respiratory tract infections (31 vs.11%, p = 0.03), but less allergies (3 vs. 22%, p < 0.01) compared with controls and had lower level of serum tIgE (geometric mean: 46.5 vs. 89.3 kU/l, p = 0.02). The risk factors for the occurrence of respiratory tract disorders in the ELBW group were: low gestational age, need for surfactant therapy and length of ventilatory support in the neonatal period.</p><p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>ELBW children have more frequent respiratory tract complications, but fewer allergies at the age of 11 years compared with children born at term. Lower respiratory tract problems decrease in ELBW children with age. The cause of this wasn't known. For the first time this disorder was named cardiac syndrome X by Harvey Kemp in 1973. In the new 2013 European Society of Cardiology guidelines regarding diagnosis and treatment of stable coronary artery disease, term cardiac syndrome X was substituted by \"angina with normal coronary arteries\". {"title":"[Risk factors of death occurrence in patients with acute kidney injury in the course of severe cardio-vascular complications].","authors":"Ewa Ignacak, Grażyna Wyrwicz-Zielińska, Izabela Krzysztonek-Weber, Władysław Sułowicz","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>Introduction: </strong>Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a frequent and serious complication in patients with cardiovascular disease. The aim of the study was to evaluate the risk of death in patients with AKI complicating severe cardiovascular diseases.</p><p><strong>Material and methods: </strong>A retrospective analysis of 246 patients surveys (157 men and 89 women aged 67.9 ± 14.8 years) with AKI in the course of severe cardiovascular diseases, hospitalized in intensive care units and words of nephrological profile in years 2000-2011 were performed.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>The majority of patients (95.9%) with AKI required hemodialysis treatment. The mortality rate in the study group was high and amounted to 69.5% and the recovery of renal function was observed in 39 patients (27.3%). Kidney disease before the onset of AKI was observed in 116 patients (47.2%). Patients with arterial hypertension have more frequently oligoanuria (p = 0.001), needs more hemodialysis sessions (p = 0.029) and stay longer in hospital (p = 0.012). To them belong:--vagus nerve stimulation (VNS),--magnetic seizure therapy/magnetoconvulsive therapy (MST/MCT),--deep stimulation of the brain (DBS) and--transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS).
