To examine the effects of the way of displaying response items on a computer screen of the internet survey, the author has conducted an experiment using 16 kinds of questionnaires. Each of the questionnaires includes same questions but the choice items of 7-point rating scales were displayed in different manners: vertical or horizontal layout, ascending or descending order, numbered or worded labels, bipolar or unipolar scales. By using the result of the surveys, he mainly compares top-3 box ratings. In the comparisons, he finds some order effects and other effects: higher top-3 box ratings by displaying the rating scales in ascending order than that of descending order and higher top ratings by displaying numbered labels with bipolar scales than that of worded labels. However, he doesn't find any significant difference from whether to display the scales vertically or horizontally.","PeriodicalId":211147,"journal":{"name":"The Japanese Journal of Behaviormetrics","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127075447","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the process, we can treat the background factors comprehensively, and estimate suitable reference intervals of the clinical laboratory values. Further, we can consistently and flexibly treat outliers of the clinical laboratory values, classify healthy group and disease group, compare the reference intervals based on this model with traditional ones, and evaluate information loss which results from traditional estimation methods based on asymptotic behavior of estimates of reference limits. Practically, we applied this model to the medical examination data collected at a clinic K in 2003, and estimated reference intervals. As a result, almost all reference intervals were estimated much wider than traditional ones. This result suggests that it is risky to apply traditional masked reference intervals to relevant receivers of clinical diagnosis or actual subject group.","PeriodicalId":211147,"journal":{"name":"The Japanese Journal of Behaviormetrics","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-03-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133431226","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The differences between the response rates, as well as the scale values between the two surveys, were relatively small and the structures of the response patterns were relatively similar. These findings indicate that the reliability of the survey results is relatively high. The difference between the original and the weighted Korean survey proved to be relatively minor (maximum difference of 3.5%), and the effect of weighting on the response data proved negligible. It has been recognized that comparison of pattern structures in groups of multiple questions, rather than comparison of response rates for each question, is important when seeking cross-national comparability.","PeriodicalId":211147,"journal":{"name":"The Japanese Journal of Behaviormetrics","volume":"129 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128436405","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since the telephone possession rate is 90% or more, the probability of selection bias is very low. There is the possibility that individuals who live out of the target area may inadvertently be included in the survey since the object area of the telephone may not coincide with the area of an administrative district. However, this situation can be avoided by confirming the living area at the time of enforcement or by expanding the area of the survey. The numbers called and the times of the survey calls also have an effect on the proportion of survey participants. The importance of making a sufficient number of calls and at the most opportune survey time is recommended for emphasis at the survey design stage.","PeriodicalId":211147,"journal":{"name":"The Japanese Journal of Behaviormetrics","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115333781","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the analysis, not only a standard Latent Class Model, but also a model that relaxed the assumption of local independence was applied to the transaction data of a convenience store.Consequently, based on the AIC criterion, a model with six classes was adopted. All of these segments were interpreted as having a different purchace-intentions. Additionally, the purchase-intention of a coming-into-the-store visitor and the size of the purchase could be guessed from transaction data. Furthermore, it was shown that the information acquired by analyzing transaction data by our method may translate into useful information for working on a store policy corresponding to the characteristics of the coming-to-the-store visitors of a convenience store from a practical viewpoint.","PeriodicalId":211147,"journal":{"name":"The Japanese Journal of Behaviormetrics","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131743292","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, basic properties of the bivariate power-normal distribution, which is an extension of the power-normal distribution to a two-dimensional case, are considered through some numerical examples and a mid-sized simulation from a viewpoint of the precision of parameter estimates and normality of the bivariate power-transformed distribution. Thus, in order to consider the effect of magnitude of truncation of the bivariate power-transformed distribution on parameter estimates, the two algorithms are used to estimate the parameters; the first allows the truncation, the second, does not. The result shows that the shapes of the bivariate power-normal distribution have the effect on the parameter estimates, and that for practical usage, the difference between the two algorithms with/without the truncation could be ignored.","PeriodicalId":211147,"journal":{"name":"The Japanese Journal of Behaviormetrics","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-12-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133247481","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
