A comparison has been made for currently used protective relays from SEL and ABB in distribution networks. It is for their further use in microgrids that it is necessary to know what algorithm they use. Published articles in this area of research indicate that the current protection system cannot be used in microgrids and will be replaced by a new one. Wolny","doi":"10.1109/EPE58302.2023.10149235","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/EPE58302.2023.10149235","url":null,"abstract":"This paper presents the results of laboratory tests analysing the effect of accelerated thermal ageing on the temporal characteristics of polarisation and depolarisation currents, of transformer insulation samples made of NOMEX®910 hybrid cellulose-aramid electrical insulating paper, impregnated with Nytro®BIO 300X insulating liquid. The accelerated laboratory thermal ageing process consisted of annealing samples of the analysed insulation, at a number of selected temperatures, over a specified period of time. The temperatures and annealing times of the samples were chosen to replicate as closely as possible the ageing process of transformer insulation occurring during the long-term operation of power transformers in the structure of the National Power System. To determine the degree of ageing of the samples tested in the laboratory, the polarisation and depolarisation current analysis method (PDC Method) was used. Such ambient conditions have significant impact on breakdown voltage, as it is described by Paschen’s curve. There is very little research that would address measurement of actual commercially available parts. Pashen’s curve describes relation between breakdown voltage and air pressure, but partial discharges can be present below the threshold set by the curve. The biggest issue is to measure only partial discharges inside tested parts as the outer flashovers are not being investigated. In order to estimate the impact of this work, some assumptions have been made. Furthermore, the current state-of-the-art technologies regarding voltage levels and connection possibilities have been investigated, with the purpose that the most efficient interconnection with the least losses. Then different scenarios for the simulations are assumed for different cases are presented. With the increasing number of high-voltage DC systems installations, the importance of research on the properties of insulation systems at voltages other than the industrial frequency voltage is increasing. At DC voltages, the PSA method is often used to detect and identify the type of partial discharges. Numerical models can be used to study PSA patterns of partial discharges, considering the physical processes, statistical behavior, and memory effect of partial discharges. This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of elements of the smart grid infrastructure, focusing on the determination of critical parameters and interdependencies for further modeling and analysis. A representative model of the interconnected infrastructure is presented, taking into account the physical characteristics of the power system, including the electrical behavior of the grid and the communication network (including the control and monitoring systems). A method for determining of critical parameters and their interdependencies is presented, and a table of parameters for further deeper network analysis is established. Consequently, estimated results will be approximated. The advancement in phasor measurement technology brings new opportunities to improve the state estimation performance by eliminating the nonlinearity issues. In this paper, a phasor measurement-based linear state estimator for IEEE 14 bus system is presented and it has been examined for different possible measurement errors according to Monte Carlo theory. The test was performed as per the IEEE Std. C37.118.1 -2011. The superiority of the linear state estimator over the conventional state estimator in respects of accuracy and robustness will be highlighted. In the present study, neutron irradiation experiments were used to investigate the irradiation-induced defects in a complex oxide, La<inf>2</inf>Zr<inf>2</inf>O<inf>7</inf>. The grazing incident X-ray diffraction (GI-XRD) and Raman spectroscopy have been used to examine the defects in La<inf>2</inf>Zr<inf>2</inf>O<inf>7</inf> pyrochlore. To obtain more information about the defects in the La<inf>2</inf>Zr<inf>2</inf>O<inf>7</inf> system, positron annihilation spectroscopy was performed.
