Since the controller cannot be operated without feedback from the environment it controls, it is not possible to test it with conventional offline secondary tests. This requires the use of a real-time simulator and hardware-in-the-loop tests where the controller is integrated into the simulation. This paper presents the integration of the arc suppression coil controller function of ABB's REX 640 multifunction terminal into a real-time simulation using IEC 61850 GOOSE and Sampled Values communication. The paper describes a developed real-time simulation that simulates the behavior of a medium voltage distribution network and the actual arc suppression coil. The last part of the paper presents the tests that were performed using hardware-in-the-loop simulation.","PeriodicalId":210548,"journal":{"name":"2023 23rd International Scientific Conference on Electric Power Engineering (EPE)","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126757041","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A high value of capacitive currents does not necessarily result in a considerable increase in residual currents. The residual current serves as an essential parameter for determining the safety of the compensated network, especially in the event of a permanent earth fault. The main aim of this research paper is to describe experimental measurements conducted to verify the accuracy of present methods used for estimating the residual current. The emphasis is also put on the analysis of the tuning process of arc-suppression coils.","PeriodicalId":210548,"journal":{"name":"2023 23rd International Scientific Conference on Electric Power Engineering (EPE)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131363128","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Commonly used techniques for detecting and characterizing PD activity, especially on the surface of insulation systems, include radio frequencies signal analysis and detection of ultraviolet radiation emissions. The aim of the research work was to perform a comparative analysis of the signals emitted by surface partial discharges in radio frequencies and the phenomena accompanying ultraviolet radiation emissions, as well as indicating possible directions for further basic research aimed at building a knowledge base and improving measurement methods. This paper presents an analysis of VHF, UHF and UV signals emitted by surface PD generated under laboratory conditions. The obtained results confirm that radio frequencies and UV signal analysis can provide important information about the activity and surface location of PD, including information on the intensity and nature of PD.","PeriodicalId":210548,"journal":{"name":"2023 23rd International Scientific Conference on Electric Power Engineering (EPE)","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132754558","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, simulations of single phasing of three-phase asynchronous motor have been carried out using COMSOL Multiphysics software. The asynchronous motor has been created as two-dimensional model with defined out of plane thickness. Firstly, the simulation has been carried out for the motor loaded with the nominal torque with the disconnection of one phase after reaching the steady-state. Secondly, the simulation has been carried out for the unloaded motor in the single phasing mode. Results of chosen electrical and mechanical motor parameters are presented and discussed in this paper. The simulation studies have shown and confirmed that the single phasing is accompanied by an increase in motor currents and changes in monitored variables waveforms.","PeriodicalId":210548,"journal":{"name":"2023 23rd International Scientific Conference on Electric Power Engineering (EPE)","volume":"295 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115803055","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the one hand, the distribution system operator (DSO) needs to meet this growing demand while being responsible for the reliable and safe operation of the network. DSO is therefore forced to analyze the risks associated with growing distributed production, such as overvoltages in the network, and determine their maximum allowed installed capacity, hosting capacity. This paper uses the stochastic methodology and probability power flow calculations to analyze the photovoltaic hosting capacity (PVHC) of an existing rural low-voltage (LV) system in the Slovak Republic. The outcomes show that overvoltages are the primary limiting factor in an analyzed network, and the PVHC depends on the permissible probability of their violation. The article further analyses the possible ways of increasing PVHC by gradual penetration of small battery energy storage systems. The results show that BESS should be considered only as a supplementary device, which will always positively affect the size of the PVHC if it is used to maximize the utilization of photovoltaic generation at the point of consumption.","PeriodicalId":210548,"journal":{"name":"2023 23rd International Scientific Conference on Electric Power Engineering (EPE)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124928007","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous research at TAMU has shown a possibility to measure high-energy cosmic ray particles, or secondarily produced muons, to predict the natural neutron background in the search for artificial neutron sources by mobile systems. One of the problems encountered in testing with Cf-252 was the increased contribution of high-energy gamma rays at small distances between the neutron source and the detector, which affects muon measurements. A primary source of a prompt gamma radiation, was found in the capsule of neutron source and AmBe material itself. More gamma photons are produced by neutrons in the detector crystal. If there is a moderator between the source and the detector, the contribution of this radiation increases due to neutron capture reactions. For higher neutron energies are crucial inelastic scattering, proton emission, alpha particle emission or multiple neutron emission accompanied by prompt gamma emission. On the other hand, experiments have not confirmed the effect of a steel plate between the detector and the neutron source. The solution may be to increase the lower discrimination during measurement with NaI(Tl) or to analyze the region between 8–14 MeV for the unusual increase in the number of pulses.","PeriodicalId":210548,"journal":{"name":"2023 23rd International Scientific Conference on Electric Power Engineering (EPE)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122651882","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a case study that focuses on optimizing the selection of LED light sources by examining the conversion between light technical, radiant, and photosynthetic units. This conversion process translates the photosynthetic requirements for plant growth into the necessary radiant and light technical requirements. By understanding these conversions, we can optimize the choice of LED light sources based on the relationship between electrical power input and photosynthetic photon flux (PPF) output. The ratio between luminous flux and PPF can then be employed for designing and sizing the grow box lighting system. This approach enables the use of standard lighting software to design the grow box lighting system. The study's outcome is a light-technical model that includes defined values for photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) at various distances (calculation horizontal planes) from the lighting system and power consumption data. Moreover, the energy balance of the lighting system is considered, accounting for heat losses due to the efficiency of the LED source in converting electrical power to radiant flux and the efficiency of the luminaires. This comprehensive analysis allows for the informed selection and implementation of LED light sources, ultimately contributing to more efficient and effective grow box systems.","PeriodicalId":210548,"journal":{"name":"2023 23rd International Scientific Conference on Electric Power Engineering (EPE)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125218360","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
