The methodology to be presented uses econometric models to generate synthetic time series of ethanol production, which is used to estimate the production of vinasse, biogas and electricity. The economic viability analysis will be done from the evaluation of the probability distribution functions of Net Present Value, Modified Internal Rate of Return and Discounted Payback, by considering that the electricity produced is commercialized in the Brazilian Regulated Contracting Environment. A case study is carried out using real data from a sugarcane plant located in the Midwest region of Brazil. The results indicate the economic viability of the project implementation.","PeriodicalId":21007,"journal":{"name":"Renewable energy & power quality journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90178973","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The simulation of 62 case studies of phase-to-ground faults on 13.8, 69, 138 and 230 kV transmission lines were performed and the voltage of a 380 V sensitive industrial busbar client was monitored. These lines are part of the electrical system of the city of Goiania, Brazil. For each case study, different fault positions were simulated by considering different DG levels connected to the consumer busbar. Long-term simulation scenarios were obtained by the Monte Carlo method and analyzed based on their cumulative distribution functions and probability density curves of voltage sags. This is one major contribution of this work. Key Words—Power quality, voltage sags, distributed generation, Monte Carlo method, Network Topology.","PeriodicalId":21007,"journal":{"name":"Renewable energy & power quality journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84652016","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

El-Sayed","doi":"10.24084/REPQJ16.222","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.24084/REPQJ16.222","url":null,"abstract":"The utilization of renewable energy resources will significantly increase to achieve clean and sustainable electricity generation. The management of the continuous growth share of variable renewable resources, integration of electric vehicles (EVs) and regulation of grid frequency require effective communication facilities of recent smart grids. In this respect, smart converters can provide efficient power conditioning devices to extract maximum power from renewable resources. In addition, the batteries of EVs could be used as distributed storage and discharge power back into the grid to compensate power deficit and flactuation. Modeling and controlling of the hybrid resources within smart grid were carried out in this paper. The smart converter is switched to track the maximum power point MPPT of the solar panels. In addition, the pitch angle control and DFIG regulation are used to extracte the maximum power under different wind speed and tidal stream velocities. The deployment of EVs can compensate power fluctuations and regulate the frequency deviations in the grid based on the proposed PID controller. In this paper, the integral minimization of time-weighted absolute error (ITAE) is used for on-line tuning of the PID controller parameters. Using Matlab/Simulink package, the smart grid is modeled and simulated using the weather data of Kuwait and then the grid performance is assessed under system disturbances and load excursions.","PeriodicalId":21007,"journal":{"name":"Renewable energy & power quality journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76600735","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of the newly installed generation capacity is being connected to the grid via power electronic converters, thus can be seen as a non-synchronous generation. The theory of power system operation and control relies heavily on the characteristics of synchronous machines and conventional network structure. Therefore, the effective integration process of the new technologies must include the composition of new physical models for converter dominated large power systems as well as innovative solutions to ensure the secure operation in the future. The focus of this paper is a holistic analysis of the reducing power system inertia to frame up new constraints for system operators through simulation studies on the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers standard 118 bus test system. The different system states and scenarios offer a comparison opportunity between stability preservation possibilities. Minimum inertia constraint calculation methodologies and various objective functions are being discussed. The utilization and effects of synthetic inertia from non-synchronous generators and energy storage systems is also considered to quantify the exact effects.","PeriodicalId":21007,"journal":{"name":"Renewable energy & power quality journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73138471","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bouzenada","doi":"10.24084/repqj16.400","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.24084/repqj16.400","url":null,"abstract":"Solar energy may be the great option to provide the conditioned air in summer, as solar energy available in plenty. Liquid desiccant air conditioning (LDAC) system using solar energy is proposed as an alternative to the conventional vapor compression systems due to its advantage in, removing the air latent load, friendly to environment, removing of pollutants from the process air, reduction of the electrical energy, do not using the harmful refrigerants and protection to ozone layer depletion. In this paper, the recent works on solar driven liquid desiccant air conditioning system and its advantages are reviewed. The system may offer in terms of energy savings are underscored. A basic description of (LDAC) system is provided. The regeneration temperature and solar collector efficiency are developed and the analysis highlights the performance of the system. The literature review has highlighted that there is a clear need for research in the field of liquid desiccant air conditioning system with solar energy in many buildings. This is due to the patent operational advantages the system can deliver in terms of energy saving from 25 to 50%, operating costs and energy security, the low regeneration temperature. The objective of this paper review is to access using of liquid desiccant based air conditioning, regenerated by eco-friendly renewable energy. The liquid desiccant systems present multifunctional properties that make them particularly interesting in several fields of application. Electric utilities have their peak loads in hot summer and are often barely capable of meeting the demand, with brown-out situations. It is a good application for solar energy due to the fact that the greatest demand for air conditioning occurs during times of highest insolation.","PeriodicalId":21007,"journal":{"name":"Renewable energy & power quality journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74505681","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
