Nowadays and many years before, the most energy worldwide is provided by fossil fuel which leads to severe pollution and contributes to the greenhouse effect. Hydrogen is the most ideal alternative clean energy, but currently, there is no significant hydrogen production from renewable sources. Hence, there is an urgent need for the development of new photocatalysts which will allow a water splitting for hydrogen production. The photocatalytic water splitting using TiO 2 offers a promising approach for clean, low-cost, and environmentally friendly production of hydrogen as a sustainable fuel. This paper reviews some recently used methods of synthesis such as hydrothermal, rapid breakdown anodization method, impregnation method, and sol-gel synthesis for the preparation of modified TiO 2 materials. These methods of synthesis provide the production of ultra-thin mesoporous TiO 2 nanosheets, nanorods, and nanotubes as well as heterojunction structures. Some investigations show that introduction of Ti 3+ atomic defects is beneficial for the photocatalytic water splitting for hydrogen generation. Some progress has been achieved by heterocoupling the two or more semiconductors. There is experimental evidence that in the presence of alcohol as a sacrificial agent, H 2 production rates decreased from a higher number of hydroxyl groups i.e. in order 3>2>1. The H 2 generation is also larger when TiO 2 is modified with the addition of small quantity of metal nanoparticles such as Pt, Pd, and Ni. One study has shown that the samples sensitised with Pt nanoparticles were superior to Pd and Ni modified TiO 2 , the other has shown that the co-catalyst activity followed the order Pd>Pt≈Au.","PeriodicalId":20943,"journal":{"name":"Research & Development in Material Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78433516","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Phase evaluation, crystal structure, microstructure, and magnetic properties thermomagnetic characteristics for the La doped and La free ferrites have been investigated at varying sintered temperatures. XRD studies revealed that BaFe 12 O 19 phase is formed at 900 ̊C through the reaction of Fe 2 O 3 and BaFe 2 O 4 . Electron microscopy studies elucidated that microstructural features depend critically on the heat treatment conditions as well as La content. La addition up to 1.0 mole found to be beneficial to refine particle size close to single domain wall size, which, in turn, led to enhance magnetic properties of the ferrite. Optimum magnetic properties for the La free BaFe 11 O 17.5 are H c =4.4kOe, B r =1.9kG, and (BH) max =0.85MGOe which were improved to H c =4.9kOe, B r =2.4kG and (BH) max =1.2MGOe with La 2 O 3 additive. The La 2 O 3 acts as a grain growth inhibitor and led to enhance high coercivity of 4.9kOe in the ferrite. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss factor decrease monotonically with increasing applied frequency at the constant temperature. Permeability is found to be sensitive to density and microstructural components like grain size and porosity of the sintered ferrites.","PeriodicalId":20943,"journal":{"name":"Research & Development in Material Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86112858","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite the above appealing properties, PDMS is naturally hydrophobic and this confines its wide use in several applications including biocompatible devices, due to its tendency to absorb some hydrophobic molecules, cells and proteins onto its surface. Therefore, there is pressing need to improve the hydrophilicity of PDMS materials’ surface.","PeriodicalId":20943,"journal":{"name":"Research & Development in Material Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87590254","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Perennially, it has appear as if the problem of power supply is one that cannot be surmounted and government in and out has always budgeted a large sum of money to the sector and the only result that the people sees is lack of power. Any government coming into governance has always made it part of what they plan to do if voted into elected offices but the only thing the people enjoy is lack of power. The driver of any economy is found to be adequate power supply. Dependency on power supply cannot be overemphasized; both human beings and animals largely depend on it for them to perform optimally. Teaching of technological education is one that is almost impossible without adequate power supply. The method used was the collection of data through the administration of questionnaires. Real time measurements of voltage at the selected laboratories were carried out with the aid of multi meters and plots of voltage deviation against time with the aid of Microsoft spread sheets. Also, data showing the period of power supply and outage for a certain period of time in order to verify the adequacy of power supply to the selected area under consideration. This paper takes proffer solutions by the way of use of solar panels, generating sets and uninterruptible power supply to overcome all these challenges.","PeriodicalId":20943,"journal":{"name":"Research & Development in Material Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79734146","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The phase composition and/or microstructure of the optimum ceramic batch (G5) compared with those of the blank (G0) was investigated by X-ray Diffraction Patterns (XRD), Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The XRD analysis proved that the resulting ceramic product exhibited higher strength than that of the blank due to the formation of new ceramic phases which were responsible for the higher values of densification parameters as well as mechanical strength. The DTA thermo grams illustrated the dissociation and conversion of the various phases. The SEM micrographs showed that the well crystallized and well developed crystals of G5 offered the excellent external apprearrans and/or microstructure of the samples incorporated glass waste.","PeriodicalId":20943,"journal":{"name":"Research & Development in Material Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86806097","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are certain reasons for this. Firstly, not all experts consider partial discharges a dangerous defect. Secondly, in some regulatory documents it is recommended to measure partial discharges once every eight years. Well-known Russian experts in the field of technical diagnostic power transformers are put partial discharges on the eighth place in ranking controlled parameters of the diagnostic value. At the same time, chromatographic analysis of dissolved gases comes first. Undoubtedly, the chromatographic control of combustible gases in oil allows one to obtain integral information about local overheating and the presence of partial discharges. But if we add to this the speed of development of the defect and the magnitude of the damage, then partial discharges must come first place.","PeriodicalId":20943,"journal":{"name":"Research & Development in Material Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76942170","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
