In this study, we have examined the effects of polymer structural properties and medium conditions on the adsorption of plasma proteins, i.e. bovine serum albumin (BSA) and fibrinogen. The studies were carried out in dilute solutions and measurements of adsorbed proteins were realized by fluorescence spectroscopy. It was shown that the extent of protein adsorption depends upon the hydrophilicity and electrical charge of both of the polymeric surfaces and proteins. In addition, environmental conditions affect the adsorption behaviour by changing the structure of protein molecules. The maximum adsorption was observed on poly(HEMA-DMAE) beads for both of BSA and fibrinogen. For this polymeric structure multilayer BSA adsorption was observed in the range of 0.1–0.5 mg/ml solution concentration. For all surfaces, the adsorbed quantity of fibrinogen was greater than that of BSA.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":20864,"journal":{"name":"Reactive Polymers","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/0923-1137(94)90135-X","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91766295","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Monofunctional vinylpyridine and acrylic acid IPNs were also synthesized and differences between the distribution coefficients of the three systems were used as an indication of whether an enhanced (i.e., synergistic) complexation of metal ions was occurring in the bifunctional polymer. Important effects attributable to the combined action of the two functionalities in the same polymer are observed. Complexation of Eu(III), a hard Lewis acid, by the bifunctional polymer is inhibited by hydrogen bonding between the two ligands. Borderline Lewis acids are complexed with high efficiency and evidence for a synergistic effect is presented.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":20864,"journal":{"name":"Reactive Polymers","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/0923-1137(94)90134-1","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91766294","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The chelating resin reacts with metal salt/metal complex and forms metal-bound polymers. The formulae of the metal-bound polymers are: PSLCu(CH3COO)·S, PSLNi (CH3COO)·3S, PSLCo(CH3COO)·S, PSLFeCl2·2S, PSLZn (CH3COO)·S, PSLZnCl·S, PSLMoO2(acac), and PSLUO2(CH3COO)·S (where PSLH = polymer-anchored ligand; S = ethanol or methanol and acac = deprotonated acetylacetone). The polymer-anchored complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR and electronic spectra and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The negative shifts of the ν(CO) (alcoholic) and ν(CN) (azomethine) are indicative of the ON donor behaviour of the polymer-anchored ligand. The complexes PSLNi(CH3COO)·3S, PSLCo(CH3COO)·S, PSLFeCl2·2S, and PSLCu(CH3COO)2·S are paramagnetic while PSLZn(CH3COO)·S, PSLZnCl·S, PSLMoO2(acac), and PSLUO2(CH3COO)·S are diamagnetic. The force constant and UO bond distance of the polymer-anchored uranium(VI) complexes are 7.03 mdyn/Å and 1.73 Å, respectively.
