In this concern it is reminiscent to call us to examine the structure of the excitonic spectra of MoS compounds, with important conception in mind in Little and Ginzburg sense.(2) In this paper we report we are able to reproduce the exciton spectra of 2H MoS2 at the absorption edge obtained by B.L. Evans and P. A. Young by conventional method at 77K(3), while ours by more sensitive photoacoustic spectroscopy method but at room temperature. It is easy to obtain the exciton spectra of the superconductive MoS compounds in studies of high Tc superconductive MoS cpmpounds at or near room temperature on this method.","PeriodicalId":208307,"journal":{"name":"Nonlinear Optical Properties of Materials","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133654371","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The noncentrosymmetric orientational order required for second order nonlinear optical processes in noncrystalline materials, such as molecule-doped liquid crystals and polymer glasses, has been demonstrated using electric field poling.[1] [2] [3] [4] The relationship between the second order molecular tensor susceptibility and the bulk tensor susceptibility of a polymer doped with optically nonlinear molecules has been recently calculated in the mean field approximation for poled materials under the influence of other bulk ordering forces [5] such as uniaxial stress. [6] Also, it has been previously shown that optical second harmonic generation can be a sensitive probe of molecular order.[7] In this paper, the tensor properties of the second order susceptibility of films poled under uniaxial stress in the direction of the poling field are determined. It is shown that both the magnitude and tensor properties of the second order susceptibility can be continuously varied with poling field and stress.","PeriodicalId":208307,"journal":{"name":"Nonlinear Optical Properties of Materials","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133845466","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For their potential use in light-control-by-light serial guided-wave wideband devices, large optical refractive nonlinearities6,7, n2, and ultrafast response times, τ, are widely recognized as important material parameters. However, low linear optical absorption, α, has received considerably less attention. This material has the advantage of very fast response time and fairly small absorption loss. Nonlinear optical measurements have been performed for various sample forms, single crystals1) solvent-cast films, Langumuir-Blodgett (LB) films2), and vacuum-deposited films3),4). Among these, vacuum-deposited films are easiest to prepare because the process is dry and not time-consuming. However, the measured χ(3) values for films deposited by the usual method were not so large (≃ 1 × 10−11 esu) compared with those of single crystals1) and LB films2). This paper reports on the fairly large χ(3) value that has been observed in a highly-oriented epitaxial PDA thin film prepared by a successful vacuum-deposition method. This χ(3) value is larger than LB films and comparable to that of single crystals. To properly evaluate the χ(3) value, a third-harmonic generation (THG) measurement system with high accuracy has been set up.","PeriodicalId":208307,"journal":{"name":"Nonlinear Optical Properties of Materials","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127173279","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Changes in the environmental conditions, such as protonation or de-protonation or addition of nonlinear inactive, however highly polarizing molecules to the species under consideration may influence the nonlinearities in quite different ways. Protonation, as the first example, can enhance or decrease the nonlinearity by producing a new chemical species upon inclusion of a proton in the original structure. An increasing rate of protonation will result in the production of more and more molecules of this new subspecies in the monolayer, an effect that can be conveniently monitored by the concomitant changes in linear optical absorption. Alternatively, we would like to show that changes in the environmental symmetry of a monolayer induce a strong nonlinear polarization which is not present in the isolated organic molecule.","PeriodicalId":208307,"journal":{"name":"Nonlinear Optical Properties of Materials","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128476609","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For slow switching rates liquid crystals can be used which have extremly high electrooptical coefficients due to mobility of the whole molecule. For higher switching rates electronic properties can be used like POCKELS effect and KERR effect. In order to implement these effects in a polymeric material, this can be doped by a suitable dye in relative small concentrations. The orientation behaviour of pure poly-(alpha-methyl-styrene) (PaMS) has been reported by Muto et al. (1); Singer et al. (2) have studied the electro- optical effect of organic dyes in poly-(methyl-methacrylate) (PMMA) using extremly high electric fields (some 100 V/μm). This paper reports on a study of the electrooptic behaviour of N,N-dihexyl-4-amino-4’-nitro-stilbene, called D 90/87, in PaMS and PMMA.","PeriodicalId":208307,"journal":{"name":"Nonlinear Optical Properties of Materials","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130667606","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
