The speeches of these two figures were chosen because the text is a kind of Critical Discourse Analysis object (CDA). The Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) method examines the relationship between language, ideology, and power. The descriptive qualitative method was used in this study. The researcher uses Norman Fairclough's three-dimensional framework (CDA) to analyze Critical Discourse Analysis data. The researchers used qualitative data analysis theory from Miles and Huberman (1994) to present and analyze the data, which included data reduction, data display or representation, and conclusion drawing or verification. The result of this study shows that both the script of speeches from Nadiem Makarim and Muhadjir Effendy have micro, mezzo, and macro-level related to the framework of Norman Fairclough. The language used in both speeches is the standard language. Still, the speech of Nadiem Makarim used more natural and creative language that can touch the millennial generations. In contrast, in the speech of Muhadjir, familiar words can confuse the audience.","PeriodicalId":208078,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Ilmiah Spectral","volume":"5 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141807658","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The students were lack of vocabulary mastery, had difficulty in memorizing the word, sometimes missed spelling the word, and the difficulty pronouncing the words and finding the word's meaning. They were difficult to recognize the word classes such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs effectively. For this reason, the researcher brought U-dictionary as media to improve students' vocabulary mastery. The classroom action research method with two cycles was used in this research. The subject was the second-semester students of Bina Sarana Informatika University consisting of 46 students. The observation and measurement techniques were used as the technique of collecting data. The observation checklists, field notes, interviews, and tests were used as the instruments for collecting data. The result showed that the use of U-Dictionary could help the teacher to improve the student's vocabulary mastery effectively. It served as a fun and simple way of learning activity. U-Dictionary led the students to build up their motivation and interest during the teaching and learning process.","PeriodicalId":208078,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Ilmiah Spectral","volume":"104 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140482231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on that problem, the researchers tried to find out a solution by reading several theories from various existing literatures. In the end, the researchers tried to use a medium, namely the use of pictures to enhance students' enthusiasm and encouragement in the learning process of writing descriptive text. This research project was a Class Action Research (CAR) and used two types of instruments, namely tests and observations. To measure the students’ writing ability, the researchers used the components that were adapted from Jacob's assessment rubric. This research project aimed to enhance the students’ writing skills in descriptive text. In this study, the researchers attempted to enhance the way of teaching writing by making use of pictures. It had been held in some cycles to break the problem occurring in teaching and studying writing. The results showed that, apart from increasing students' encouragement and enthusiasm in the class, using pictures as the media was also able to increase students' imagination in developing ideas and concepts for writing descriptive text.","PeriodicalId":208078,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Ilmiah Spectral","volume":"46 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140480536","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study involved 34 non-English major university students who received AWE feedback from the WhiteSmoke Writing Assistant during their writing practice sessions. The quality of their writing was evaluated using pre-and post-tests, and their perceptions of the feedback were gathered through a questionnaire. The results showed a significant improvement in the quality of students' writing after using AWE feedback. Additionally, the students perceived the AWE feedback as positively impacting the quality of their writing. These findings suggest that AWE feedback is a promising tool that can be incorporated into the writing class program to enhance the quality of students' writing. Writing teachers can use the tool to evaluate students' compositions and provide targeted feedback to help them improve their writing skills. Overall, the study highlights the potential of technology-based writing tools to facilitate language learning and improve EFL learners' writing proficiency. Multiple models for classroom discourse could improve the initiation between the teacher and students in the classroom. It is presumptively true that classroom discourse \"follows a fairly normal and predictable pattern, also known as IRF, or IRE: Initiation, Response, and Feedback or Evaluation, consists of three parts: a teacher Initiation, a student response, and a teacher Feedback. Some authors and practitioners prefer IRE to represent that teachers' feedback is typically an assessment of a student's participation. Teachers continually evaluate if a statement is correct and provide feedback to students. In this study, researchers use a literature review. The results obtained from the development stages carried out by researchers showed that the mind map media with the developed Freemind application was declared to have proven its practicality. The score of learning outcomes for English courses in the medium category determined the effectiveness of the mind map media with the Freemind application.
