They also handle 'emergency priority' visits by their patients - handling unexpected clinical conditions such as flu, rapid blood pressure increase, or a sudden allergic reaction to a maintenance drug. This happens as the patients prefer care continuity and expect their regular physician to handle their urgent cases as well. We study the impact of having physicians handle these two kinds of patients' visits at the same office and the impact of patients' behavior on the physicians' capacity and service level for patients. We show that mixing 'emergency priority' cases with regularly scheduled visits causes longer waiting times for the regular patients, and it reduces their overall satisfaction. We investigate how a physician can control this behavior by optimally using his levers of care -- price and service rate.","PeriodicalId":207610,"journal":{"name":"2013 46th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125613749","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The organizational strategic view, the evolution of e-business in terms of an analysis of business functions, and the consideration of some stage models of the evolution were explored. The research method combines a case study approach with the use of process modeling tools and e-business evolution stage model. These tools were applied to Alexandria, Egypt's largest, long established and Government-run port. The process architecture modeling method used was Ould's Riva method. In this study, possibilities for achieving higher stages of e-business in Alexandria port were re-examined using a combination of three methods: Ould's improvement diagnosis, Davenport's analysis of information technology, and Earl's six stage model of e-business development. Adherence of the top management to the port's strategic view is a key success factor to the transformation and improvement of the organizational processes, including process automation.","PeriodicalId":207610,"journal":{"name":"2013 46th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"140 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123334577","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose two hypotheses: An aligned incentive system leads to higher quality of information. However, information quality that is not subject to incentives will decrease after the introduction of such an incentive scheme. This can be explained by a crowding-out effect of previous intrinsic motivated behavior. These hypotheses are tested with a quasi-experiment in the financial services industry.","PeriodicalId":207610,"journal":{"name":"2013 46th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130513125","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The group is a Community of Practice (CoP) committed to fostering entrepreneurship within and beyond its local geographic borders. Contemporary CoPs are often extended to become Electronic Networks of Practice (ENP). NASF is an ENP whose online presence appears through individual contributions and community facilitators. The group is actively involved in social media campaigns. By using social media and appropriating information that circulates on it, NASF builds its identity. This manuscript presents the initial results of an ethnographic study of the group. The purpose of the study is to explore the mechanisms the group uses for sharing knowledge in order to start, support and grow businesses. The discussion presented in this manuscript is based on two years of monitoring group activity. A conventional content analysis was used to examine a subset of group tweets on Twitter in order to gain an understanding of the group and it use of social media to support the CoP.","PeriodicalId":207610,"journal":{"name":"2013 46th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130277585","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the context of organizational innovativeness, while the line of current research has mainly focused on structural aspects of knowledge network, to study the role of knowledge network on innovation, this research explores knowledge content and knowledge process aspects of firms' network beyond the structural element. The context of our study is the patent co-authorship networks of biotechnology firms in Victoria, Australia. The data were extracted via the Australia patent database (Auspat) from 2001-2010. Using social network analysis and statistical analyses, our study examines knowledge network of firms in terms of content, process and structure of the network. The result highlights the need for understanding the interactions among these three aspects of knowledge networks and provides some suggestions for the current conflict in theoretical arguments and empirical results identified in this literature.","PeriodicalId":207610,"journal":{"name":"2013 46th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131606877","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper focuses on information governance in the banking industry. It involves a study of thirteen banks in three countries, all with highly developed financial systems: Brazil, Hong Kong (SAR of China) and the United States. In addition to reporting on the perceived need for IG in today's banks, the study proposes and verifies the possibilities of an information governance framework (IGF) with banking industry executives.","PeriodicalId":207610,"journal":{"name":"2013 46th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"275 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120852661","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We believe that the traditional contract model for software development is generally responsible for these failures. Even if an IT project is resourced internally, the organisation applies similar management practices to the IT project as if it were outsourced to a third party supplier. The contract model contains three fundamental elements, all of which are seriously flawed in the context of software development. In any IT project the contract model increases the risk of failure, and leads to a suboptimal design and poor return on investment. In this article we examine some of the ways in which this happens. We also consider an alternative approach, based on the principles of complexity theory.","PeriodicalId":207610,"journal":{"name":"2013 46th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115422358","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Twitter, a widely used microblogging service, has significant potential for the communication and sharing of up-to-date health information particularly with health consumers. In this paper a sample of 114 Australian health-related organizations' Twitter accounts were identified, that matched inclusion criteria of a significant number of followers and activity. The 114 accounts' micro-blog postings over a defined period of time were systematically analyzed, with a total of over 4,700 tweets retrieved, examined and manually categorized. This work analyzes Australian health-related micro-blog usage both in terms of health condition areas and types of micro-blog postings, including explanatory discussion of the outcomes and provides a case study in relation to re-tweeting of public health advice tweets. The work contributes to the literature by providing insights into the characteristics of community-wide health information dissemination via social media.","PeriodicalId":207610,"journal":{"name":"2013 46th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"123 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115423357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using the philosophy of science as a guiding framework, we explore the complexity of the warranty of claims under the current controversial paradigmatic status of design science. The inability to objectively certify knowledge claims in design science research is a serious communication barrier that hinders the dissemination of knowledge across the different philosophical perspectives in the IS community and ultimately the advancement of IS knowledge. In this paper, we explore potential controversies on the veridicality of knowledge claims in design science research and propose that adopting scientific realism as the underlying philosophical stance is the way to address these controversies. It is our intent that this discussion be beneficial for design science scholars as they continue their efforts to develop and disseminate the foundations for design science research.","PeriodicalId":207610,"journal":{"name":"2013 46th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125009297","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
