The spectral estimate of speech plays a major role in computing the noise masking threshold when simultaneous masking properties is considered. Although traditional methods using power-spectral-subtraction method to roughly estimate the speech spectra can provide acceptable performance, however, the estimation of speech spectra can be further improved for evaluating the noise masking threshold. In this article, we aim at finding a better spectral estimate of speech by two-step-decision-directed method. In turn, this estimate is employed to compute the noise masking threshold of a perceptual gain factor. Experimental results show that the background noise can be efficiently suppressed by embedding the two-step-decision-directed algorithm in the perceptual gain factor.","PeriodicalId":207234,"journal":{"name":"2010 Second International Conference on Computer Engineering and Applications","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-03-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129846486","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The number of vehicles equipped with electronic components is increasing rapidly by replacing traditional mechanical and hydraulic systems. Nowadays most cars are functioning properly via many Electronic Control Units (ECUs), sensors and actuators, among which more than 2500 electronic signals are exchanged. There are several bus systems that have been developed for automotive bus systems to satisfy the different requirements of automotive applications: Local Interconnection Network (LIN), Controller Area Network (CAN), FlexRay and Media Oriented System Transport (MOST). However, there are more demands of combining these different bus networks in order to increase the efficiency and safety of the vehicle systems. The integrated automotive bus system, which communicates with software/hardware components on the different bus systems in a car, is more challenging problem. The discussion on how to interconnect those automotive bus networks in a fault tolerant way is addressed in the paper.","PeriodicalId":207234,"journal":{"name":"2010 Second International Conference on Computer Engineering and Applications","volume":"103 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-03-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124780121","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The base station antenna has a voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) below 1.4, dual polarized, 16dB gain and horizontal beamwidth of 105 degree. Dipole antenna has been chosen due to its simplicity in antenna design and has been fabricated using brass. The dipole antennas are slanted to either +45 degree or -45 degree to increase the base station antenna sensitivity and the user capacity of a base station. This slanted feature is called X-Polarized or cross polarized. Feed network channel the radio frequency (RF) power equally to the antenna elements in the array. The VSWR of the base station antenna was measured by using Agilent 8722ES Network Analyzer and the radiation pattern was done in Anechoic Chamber in Multimedia University, in Cyberjaya, Malaysia. Some factors taken into consideration for the implementation of the digital terrestrial TV broadcasting (DTTB) are improved quality of TV broadcasting, and the increased efficiency of spectrum usage. With the savings in bandwidth utilization, there will be spectrum available from analog TV broadcasting switch off, so called digital dividend. With this digital dividend, the spectrum available can either be utilized for DTTB or any other terrestrial services applications, especially mobile broadband. The re-allocation of the spectrum should be conducted in a fair and balanced manner by taking into account the needs of the TV broadcasting industry and the other wireless services, to ensure that people will get most social and economic benefit from the digital dividend. There are several factors that must be considered in determining the of allocation of spectrum for the needs of DTT B, i.e. regulation, socio-cultural, economic, and business aspects. This paper will explain the basic framework of the research work plan in order to determine the needs of spectrum allocation at UHF band for DTTB in Indonesia.","PeriodicalId":207234,"journal":{"name":"2010 Second International Conference on Computer Engineering and Applications","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-03-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114229564","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Once they have identified the areas of parallelization, they will need to know the level of code granularity needed to ensure profitable execution. Furthermore, this problem multiplies itself with different hardware available. In this paper, we present a novel approach for fair comparison of the hardware configuration by simulation through configuring a pair of quad-core processors. The simulated configuration represents shared cache CMP, private cache CMP and symmetrical multiprocessor (SMP) environment. We then present a modified lmbench micro-benchmark suite to measure the cost of threading on these different hardware configurations. In our empirical studies, we observe that shared cache CMP exhibits better performance when the operating systems load balancer is highly active. However, the measurements also indicate that thread size is an important consideration where potential cache trashing can occur when sharing a cache between processing cores. Private cache CMP and SMP do not exhibit significant difference in our measurements. The techniques presented can be incorporated into integrated development environment, compilers and potentially even other run-time environments.","PeriodicalId":207234,"journal":{"name":"2010 Second International Conference on Computer Engineering and Applications","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-03-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116311487","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system consists of four modules: BUS Station Module, In-BUS Module, BASE Station Module and BUS Stop Module. Equipped with PC and GSM modem, BUS Station Module sends the initialization information containing the bus number and license plate number to In-BUS Module and BASE Station Module using SMS. The microcontroller based In-BUS Module consisting mainly of a GPS receiver and GSM modem then starts transmitting its location and number of passengers to BASE Station Module. BASE Station Module equipped with a microcontroller unit and GSM modems interfaced to PCs is designed to keep track record of every bus, processes user request about a particular bus location out of BUS Station and updates buses location on bus stops. BUS Stop Module is installed at every bus stop and consists of a GSM modem, memory unit and dot matrix display all interfaced to a microcontroller. This module receives buses location information coming towards that stop from BASE Station module and displays the information on a dot matrix display. A per stop statistical analysis is carried out based on the number of passengers and a recommendation report along with this analysis is sent to Punjab Government Transportation Department to have a check on the performance and services offered by transporters to common people. The results have shown that the developed system is useful for facilitating people using public transportation services.","PeriodicalId":207234,"journal":{"name":"2010 Second International Conference on Computer Engineering and Applications","volume":"196 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-03-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116351259","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The attacks are usually carried out after a well planned analysis composed of complete requirements analysis and resource allocation phases. Presently, a consensus is found that the Internet is being used by terrorists for implementation of their plans, and many ideas of early warning systems have been appearing recently. These early warning systems are based on the principles of retrieving and extracting information available online usually in the form of news items or similar pages. The idea behind such warning systems is mainly frequency-based (i. e., the number of appearances of any entity over a particular time span). The rest of the logic revolves around that entity. In this paper, we discuss some important issues related to this type of approach. We also present functional requirements for such early warning systems along with some design constraints. Finally, we introduce a novel approach to address these issues, which is currently being implemented in the Early Warning System (EWaS).","PeriodicalId":207234,"journal":{"name":"2010 Second International Conference on Computer Engineering and Applications","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-03-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116476671","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
